Hoping someone wasn’t you, as that doesn’t sound a cheap fix.
You’re basically in my perfect defender. How is it after the power hike, as it’s a pretty large one?

Currently got a Daimler V12 (Daimler Century 6.0 V12 from 1996) and a Bentley W12.
The Bentley feels like a truck, the Daimler is a lot of fun.
IIn 2 weeks I'll have my Porsche 944 back from storage (it is an oldtimer under Dutch law and therefore I store it from December until March. Result? Tax exemption on it!).
Just sold this

The new Alpine A110, looks promising, I can get in and out without having physio and it goes ok judging from reviews
I see it as a more usable Lotus Exige

There are some simply wonderful bits of machinery on this now very lengthy thread, but I’m curious how many on here paid for their extraordinary cars outright, against using borrowedor money or some other form of finance. (Not a loaded question.)
Never use finance. Never.

“Some 86% of all new car registrations use some form of credit” (from https://www.theguardian.com/money/20...onsumer-credit)
I’d imagine that the proportions are probably about the same in this thread.
This is our current town car, we now tend to hire for long journeys and holidays.

I love that 8-series...such a handsome car!
The 8 Series is absolutely gorgeous, particularly on those M Parallels.
Is she an 8 or 12 cylinder?
Love the 8 series. I’ve had loads of classic BMWs and have always thought about buying one but it’s never happened for one reason or another. There’s a fantastic yellow one local to me that always has me searching the classifieds whenever I see it.
Have enjoyed this for the last 8 months, love it, but it's time (again) to try something new (just stuck it on Autotrader....)

Bit of a come down after the 997. Now we're in the states, this is on order
Love the classic 8 series. It's to this day one of the most beautiful cars

E31 is a beautiful car.
Such a shame they never made the M8, however an 850CSI would do nicely.
Having had an E24 and now an E63 M6, I really would like to try the one in the middle so to speak. Prices seem to be going up too, so perhaps my wife might see it as a good investment!
If you want a new car, technically credit does make you money.
A lot of lease deals are cheaper over 2-3 years than buying the car for cash, and then selling/trading at the end. Some only a little cheaper, others thousands cheaper. The money can then be used elsewhere or invested.
Unless the car appreciates, the lease deals tend to make more sense than buying if you plan to flip after 2-3 years.

Love my baby from 1984!
Tend to agree with the don’t buy new philosophy but depends on what kind of deal you can get.
And I’m very picky on spec and if it’s an option will always buy manual so that makes it very difficult to find the right used one these days.
Finance, 2 years ago got decent discount, and 50 % of list price at 0% interest, why wouldn’t you (brand new model so no used examples available)
Just looked at lease against purchase and went for 6 month old very low mileage great spec, on my
calculations especially as will probably not do a lot of miles works out much better than lease.
Have found that about 6 months after a new model launch you will get the manufacturer demo/press cars, usually with good spec, start to come on the market usually priced quite aggressively as they don’t want them hanging about while the model is new.
Biased agreement
This is the V8. Bit of a no brainer for me. The 850i only had 14bhp more but with a heavier V12 and no option of the sport body kit.
Of course, there's the 850CSI, but that's a completely different animal, and a manual too.
Always been a fan of a yellow one, but the red helps camouflage the massive rear lights.
Sure, from the backdrop, you know where I am
I suppose the CSI was to all intents and purposes, the M8. Engine was built by the M division after all, and that manual box would have been a hoot.
Since we've both got E63's, you'll understand the 6 is a vastly superior car, but if I had the choice between the two, it's the E31 all day long.
Massive money now for a CSI. All 8's are appreciating fast, just avoid the cheap ones.
For selfish reasons, I'd always hoped they'd never bring out another 8, so that my shape remained the classic, but it is the same BMW formula, the 8 replaced the 6, and repeat...
Always use finance, always!
I would never get into my last 5 cars without it!

Not sure I agree that the CSI is an M8 in all but name. No M car should be SOHC to me, but still, I’d be more than happy to have one to keep my E30 and E63 company in the garage.
Agreed about the older cars though. The E63 is such a competent machine, particularly in M guise. The chassis is superb and the styling is starting to age nicely IMO. However, I still get more of a buzz from wafting along in the E30 most days.
Maybe what I really need is an M635CSI!
Choice of 3 for today
