Just wondering if any of you guys have had dealings with webuyanycar.com?
I'm contemplating selling my car, just out of curiosity I put the details in last week and it gave me a price about £400 less than if I advertised it privately. It surprised me a bit as I was expecting a lot less. By the time I've advertised it, and people have been round and kicked the tyres etc I was contemplating booking an appointment.
However I can't help thinking that I'll go over to the assessors and that's when they start knocking the price back? Just wondering what experience folk have had, cheers.
I dealt with them a few years ago and they knock you down for absolutely everything. Obviously depends on roughly what price the car is worth to start with, but if it's relatively high they can knock quite a bit more off when they inspect it. For example my car had nearly 90k motorway miles in a short number of years and they knocked me down for stone chips. From memory mine went down from £6600 to £5450 when they inspected it..... and the sales man (no more than a boy) was a smug so and so. Felt like knocking his block off.
Not sure if things have changed since but that's my experience of them.
Nah still the same
Sold one car to them no problem. My other I just used their quite to get a dealer to match the price
As above you have to be religious about describing the car's defects or they'll reduce the offer.
I did wonder if that's how they worked. For reference the car is a Toyota GT86 and I think worth about 12k they've given me a valuation of £11,665 which I thought Was OK.
As above - describe it well for a straight forward and convenient sale. It won't be the best price (by any stretch) but it's relatively stress free and quick. It depends on the car in question, how much you value your time and your patience with tyre kickers etc.
Another one here. Sold to them once.
Had a merc with a dodgy ECU that was on the way out... Got it 'repaired' by one of these companies that does their best to keep them working then took it to WBAC. They really pull your pants down on the price, and then will knock as much off as possible for every small thing they find, but at the end of the day, it's SO convenient and you're under no obligation at any point plus zero comeback on any problems after the point of sale.
I've used them and was fairly happy with the deal. Dropped £600 on a £9k+ car that I wanted a quick deal on. Worth it to avoid the tyre kickers and endless minutiae based questions. They're owned by British Car Auctions so their valuation on their database should be pretty consistent wherever you go. I wouldn't rule out using them again.
They're basically bca so that's where your car will be headed. They'll chip the price for every dent, scratch and bump. I think it's in the region of £250 a mark.
If your cars a minter, then it might pay to visit them. If there loads of little bits on it, (like most cars), then the price they say is not the price they'll pay.
I can’t remember the name of the company but there was an advert for a competitor stating they would systematically beat WBAC or something along those lines.
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
I used Evans Halshaw recently. They promise to beat WBAC - but also offered a reasonable price and didn’t try to reduce it during the deal. Only drawback is their limited number of sites.
They offered my daughter £900 for her Honda, she sold it privately for £4000
They value the MX5 we are about to sell at £3500, the cheapest one we can find online is £6500
Don't assume they won't haggle: they will. I sold them a BMW 3 series last year and as noted above they knocked about £750 off for various stone chips and scuffs. I dug my heels I and said the least I would accept was a £250 reduction on the original quote or I would walk. After much head scratching and phone calls to supervisors etc 20 mins later they caved and I got about £250 more than my trade in offer elsewhere.
I used them recently and was pleasantly surprised.
I had an A7 that was two years old and in great condition, but had a couple of marks on two of the alloys. They knocked me £80 for the two wheels (£40 each) but it would have cost me more than that to have them refinished. The price they offered was more than a trade in and overall very good. I wouldn't have got that much as a private sale, as people generally want a dealer warranty or finance at that sort of price point.
It is horses for courses, but if you need to sell and the price they offer is acceptable, then there is no harm taking it for an inspection. They are targeted on converting quotes to sales, hence why they will haggle a little.
All the best
Echo whats said above, sell to anyone else, heck, even give your car away. I still feel like I "got done over" by them - we were leaving the country the next day and I really didnt have much choice.
Sold to them once and had a very pleasant experience. Disclose everything and only get a quote once you're sure the time is right. If you go back to them for a second quote, they'll offer less.
I used them once. Funnily enough the chap who turned up to buy was a long standing pretty famous (on TZ) member of this place! First f2f as such. Pleasant experience , much watch showing , and as said previously be honest from the get go. They don’t give top prices at all but shifts it quick without waiting round for the general public to buy from you.

I've used them a couple of times. Both were fine and only about 400 below what I would've asked privately.
I liked the convenience.
My own fairly recent thread on the matter here...

Cheers for the replies chaps. Think I'll maybe try advertising it for a couple of weeks and if I have no joy may give them a try
I just thought with the time of year it wouldn't be ideal trying to sell it, what with folk recovering from Christmas etc
For that kind of car, stick it on Piston Heads.
A more focused audience.
As others pointed out, easy and painless. They will chip off £50 for each and every scratch, dent, mark, or curbed wheel.
I think its more if you have a mileage discrepancy, or missing service stamp. They don't even test drive the car, i think the assumption is it must be ok if it drives there under its own steam.
It will then ultimately go on a transporter, either British car auction( as pointed out) or if the cars a good'un, to one of the car showroom warehouses..
IIRC, don't they own Car Giant or something?
As others have said, tell them as it is and then still expect them to chip you down a bit, you'll certainly not get what they quote you on the web.
But it is an easy sale and money straight in the bank (if you pay a small fee!) Of wait the few days.
Sent from my [device_name] using TZ-UK mobile app
used them once, and only after trying to sell privately. They offered me way under the online quote, haggled them up over £1k, still got rinsed.
i would only use them as an absolute last resort.
Had a quote from them last year for my Dads Nissan Quashqai, local dealer (not even the one that supplied the car) beat their offer by £1,500.
I sold a car a few months back to The Car Buying Group in Bradford.
They offered more than WBAC and send a guy to your house (anywhere in the UK) to check that the car is as described, the money then goes into your bank account and they drive it away. If they tried to haggle then you just tell the guy he has to walk home!
I wouldn't hesitate to use them again and NO pressure tactics.
The interesting thing is that they were taking the car straight to BCA. So like WBAC, they are gambling that they can get more at auction (post fees) than they pay you. From what I can see the market is really poor at the moment, so being realistic about sales price and then being tough in negotiations on the new purchase is the way forwards.
Used them once but probably won't again. I had a car on which the body work was totally immaculate (it had just had a £700 detailing session). The guy was a right ******* insisting that there were at least 50 stone chips and therefore knocked it down by a grand. From experience with similar companies before I didn't see it worth arguing.... btdt before and got no where, in fact after the argument they dropped the offer by even more! So I excepted the offer but swore to never use WBAC again. I've also used We Want Your Car before and they were better to deal with but then again they were the company that when I argued a £40 charge for a valet (I had just driven the car direct from a valet session) they dropped the offer by 5 grand (might have been 4 grand... memory failing)!
^^^ but was there 50 stone chips or not ? If it was detailed prior to going did he identify them to you and could you see them yourself ?
Well with the greatest of respect, why did you let him tell you there were 50 marks if there were not ??
Surely if they were not visible you would have disputed it, no ?
Wbac are a business who make money buying and selling cars. They want to give you as little as possible. However they’re convenient and a lot of people don’t want a load of chancers and tyre kickers coming round haggling over prices. So it works for them.
I had a quote on my Nissan Xtrail and it was pretty much spot on what I expected from the trade. In the end it helped me get the trade in price I wanted.
If you think they will give top dollar for a car which is perhaps not in the best condition you’ll probably be disappointed.

Great to benchmark your pricing. Convenient way to get rid of a high mileage car without any hassle. It's quick.
You have two options after a quote......get more as a trade in price, or ££ knocked off the new car. Also gives you the option to buy the next car more cheaply privately with the cash in your pocket.
Remember it's not the price you get for your car that's important. It's the difference to the new one. Loose at one end , gain at the other?
Where did I actually contradict that what the chap said please?
Not paying the indicated price on line is part of the KPI's for all WBAC staff.....they traditionally pay the lowest of all the on line car buying sites irrespective of full disclosure or not....and yes that is so they can feed their margin requirement once it retails via a BCA site.
In essence, you are paying for convenience.
I recently sold a car to WeWantAnyCar.com (see what they did there?).
I got an online valuation, booked the slot. Got knocked down a grand and a half (was sort of expecting this) and sold it.
Slightly galling to then see the car being sold from a dealer a couple of weeks later for nearly double what they paid me, but hey ho...
So clever my foot fell off.
Sold my car via Facebook.
6 interested parties, posted on FB at 4, cash in hand by 10...
You're being fleeced for convenience, but if you're just trying to be rid of a car, it's your choice.

Last experience of selling a car was a few years ago but was a specialist model. I emailed all the well known independant specialist retailers of said marque with lots of pics and details and asked them to bid. Picked the one which worked best and they travelled from Cornwall to Dorset to collect and paid by BT there and then. No tyre kickers etc, better price than BCA or whoever, no travel to anywhere and minimal negotiation over the price. Worth going down that route if the car is likely to be in demand with dealers.
I have used them on two occasions and both were fine with only some negotiation of final price.
Purchase prices were two ends of the spectrum but straight forward.
I would use them again as both times their bids were far better than both franchised, non-franchised and specialist dealers.
Correct I don't think I have access to sales corner, I think its 250 posts?
Thanks for all the replies though, I tried a few different alternatives to WBAC, purely out of curiosity and they all seem to be around a similar figure.
Its actually due a service, which is booked for next week, once this is completed I'll get it advertised
I sold a van to them, they knocked me for a few tiny stone chips but still paid over £1k more than the p/ex offer from my dealer. The biggest + for me was the lack of grief, no idiots not turning up, tyre kicking, offering to pay half now, half next week etc. We agreed a price & they gave me a lift home. The money was in my bank soon after they cleared the finance. I would use them again.
