AWFUL weather conditions around Cambs-Northants-Leics. :(
I had a call on Friday evening from a panicking Asda contractor looking for JCB’s to clear the car parks of snow on Sunday. This is usual at this time of year, but usually they wait until the snow is actually falling. I said I would see how many of my JCB operators would work and I would talk to him on Saturday morning.
Anyway, I called him Saturday morning and said I could sort out 5 machines and operators, he said he would look at the forecast and come back to me. I told him if the machines were booked and went to the locations he would be billed for a full day for each machine / operator.
Saturday afternoon he calls me and gives me the locations of 5 Asda stores and a machine had to be at each location by 7am Sunday morning as the forecast was 7” of snow.
I awoke at 6.45 this morning and peeped through the curtains expecting it to look like a Christmas card, nothing, not even a flake !
I spoke to an embarrassed Asda at 7am who said leave a machine at each store until 11am just in case, after 11am it would be to dangerous as the car parks will then be busy.
Besides my JCB’s there was also a gritter at each store car park, I reckon it will have cost them £5000+ just on the 5 stores we covered.
So what happened to the big dump of snow we were supposed to get in the North West ?
Hopefully it will be forecast again for next weekend, machine drivers love a bit of overtime coming up to Christmas !!!

Good sledging weather in Bedfordshire
Literally ten minutes of very light snow here in West Lancs (Burscough).
5 to 6cm in Leics... not as heavy as expected.... nice winter wonderland and kids went out sledging and will all enjoy a snow day tomorrow
Not as dramatic as expected though
Nothing in Salisbury but the roads were flooded this morning.
Been snowing pretty much constantly here, in Tamworth, for over 12 hours. I'd say there is a good 15cm where it lays untouched.
Bugger all here in Ilkley. Very annoying. I love the snow and was hoping for more when we moved here
A bit of snow and rain in N E Lincs but nothing settled so happy enough to be honest.
Dunno what all the fuss was about, (Nr Doncaster).

I think it ended up further south than expected. In NE London we got about 3 inches whereas the forecast was for heavy rain.

North London/South Herts we had snow most of the day.
About three or four inches fell and settled last night and this morning in East Northamptonshire.
It started last Friday (thread 'first snow of the year') I had to go to the north yesterday. About 10 miles to the north from my home, there was no snow at all! I had a wonderful but cold 'green' day. Today was different. It started snowing around noon. About 20cm now... and accumulating (which appears to be the official term)
Menno
North London , Herts border loads of snow
About 4” of snow here in Oxfordshire.

Pretty much just rain, some localised flooding and toppled trees here in Hampshire. At one stage today our village was cut off due to fallen trees on both roads in.
Took a while to clear the drive here in Cambridgeshire. Cancelled a trip to London after seeing traffic updates
Hampshire microclimate in full swing today.
Rained a lot, but no more than a few flakes on the wind

Snow in Herts/ Essex 3” roughly, forecast of Saturday a.m. was for none, but weather came south and a power cut too for 2 hours
I was very surprised by all the fallen trees and wind damage in Hampshire. I went Christmas shopping this morning and it was raining heavily but not that windy. Spent a few (miserable) hours in a shopping centre oblivious to the weather. Drove back home around lunchtime and it was a complete mess in the Test Valley villages. Looked like a mini-cyclone had passed through. A guy down the roads massive trampoline was upside down on top of his car!
Nothing here in Dorset. I can see the sea but am also nearly 300 feet asl so that can make a big difference to the amount of snow and how long it lasts, compared to sea level on the coast. Nothing. Nada. Zilch
Plenty in Bedfordshire, couldn't get the car off the drive.
I’ve got a 10am in Saffron Walden tomorrow. What’s it like around Cambridge chaps.

Yep, Bedfordshire had a full helping - a good 4" or more. Haven't been out today, but will tomorrow - I've got a new Touareg, so it should be more than capable of dealing with it.
Hopefully.
So clever my foot fell off.
No...and don't ask me again!
Tom in San Diego
Just a little for us yesterday.

A34/M4 area heading into Swindon was very heavy, with some nasty crashes on above roads, by Southampton it was bright and sunny.

Nothing in East Yorkshire, best of all my second flight this morning on to Hannover from Schipol is cancelled due to snow in Amsterdam. Not the first one through, so I can get to Schipol but not out of it.
I was in Newcastle yesterday, sunshine, no snow until early evening but it wasn't settling enough to worry. Got back to Darlington no snow but very cold. -6°C this morning! brrr.
OMG - Woke to this, this morning!!!!
Needless to say I phoned work to say I was snowed in and couldn't make it today!

15 miles south of Glasgow and all we have is sunshine yesterday and today, cold though
Feel sorry for the ASDA guys, sounds like they tried to do the right thing and ended up out of pocket.
As the above Oxfordshire chap we had about 4" which is quite unusual but great for the kids. I don't think there was much sweeping or gritting (understandable given how mild it normally is), result was fairly chaotic. Roads like the A40 were ice traps with loads of crashes, think the A34 was closed at one point, ambulances were struggling to get past the abandoned cars. Suspect tomorrow will be quite bad for ice if the temperature goes as low as predicted overnight.
We're to be minus 4 tonight.
All the snow that fell on Friday is now super compacted to a sheet of slippery hell.
