Nope, too warm here in the South East as of yet. I only just cut down a Cherry tree so now I have to wait until autumn winter 2018 to burn it
I cannot believe how mild it is - haven't had the heating on since maybe march.

Had ours on twice so far! Missus is worse than me for feeling the cold. Old photo same fire (and spanner). Gonna miss it when we move soon.
You are all fortunate that you have control of your own heating, here in Beijing the Government decide when the heating is switched on and off!
Not switched on yet but luckily it is still fairly mild here at the moment!
Fantastic fireplace, and Pooch of course :)

First fire of the year but it's not seasonal here; just if it feels a bit chilly.
My chimneys have started leaking into each other and fumes coming out into the upstairs rooms :( £3k bill for 2 chimneys to be lines and 3 to be capped and sealed at the bottom :(
Thread resurrection.
Down in Cornwall AGAIN and the weathers just cold enough to stoke the burner up.
Had the central heating off since we've been here so it's not too hot for it.
First one last week for us.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
In the cabin having just lit the windy smithy.

Can't beat a proper fire!
Although we did replace the open fire with a woodburner, for more heat.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
For our so called winter
At nights always on
I don't really understand these people that come out with phrases like "....first time heating on this winter" and "...just lit the stove for the first time". Where are these people living?! We've had the CH on for a few hours of the day and the stove on every night since the end of October! In fact, at the moment, the boiler is playing up so the CH is permanently off. The wood burner is getting maxed out from c. 4pm until bed time but it's struggling :-( It was 9 degrees in the bedroom when we went to bed and 8 degrees this morning. We have three quilts on the bed!
Some lovely looking fires in this thread. Alack and alas, I don't have one at home, so have to make do with a warm through in my local . .

How are you getting on with your first few burns? Had one installed last week and I’ve used it two or three times but it still smells ( paint curing?)...
Also need to learn about limiting smoke coming in the room as it defeats the object having to open the window to get rid of the smoke!!

Hi DB
In my Log Burner time...
Yes that is the smell of the paint and will subside after a few more burns , not sure about smoke in the room! , you only need to have the door open an inch or two while the fire gets going then close the door and adjust the airflow lever push button etc,,, are you using dry Kindling / Logs ?, is the door rope around the door frame nice and air tight ?
Funny when mine was installed the fitter said leave a window open slightly in the room to let the air circulate ( mind you it is only a small room ), and have you had a Carbon Monoxide alarm fitted
Cheers
Wayne
You shouldn’t be getting smoke in the room - I assume the fitter installed a register plate.
Mines really good no smoke
On cold evenings it’s sometimes harder to get the chimney warm (to get the fire going)
Once is going I Close top and bottom vents off and it just ticks away

Thanks for the advice both. Rope had a gap but when I pushed down the handle more tightly the gap went away.
Wood is kiln dried so hopefully that isn’t a contributing factor.

Stumbled across this thread and now really missing our old house and the open fire and log burner, luckily will be moving again soon and back to a period properly which should provide opportunity!
This is our burner. Been having some use in the past week or so!
Had this on whilst watching the Brentford/Leicester match this afternoon
Andy
Time to fire this thread up again I reckon.
After a breezy wettish day in Padstein, just what the Dr ordered
Had our first last night, made up for the post holiday blues returning from the sun
If it doesnt stink the room up then your laughing.
My one seems to blow smoke back ever so slighly, not much but it does not take much to smell a room out, give you sore eyes and a cough.
Not cold enough here in Hampshire atm
But temp is dropping......
I always seem to run out of Kindling more than Logs
Anyone got one of those fans that sit on top of a log burner? Are they worth having? Mine is set in a corner and would be good to get the warmth circulating more.
No not fired up yet, obviously, but the winter and the power companies wont be getting their pound of flesh from me this year. 1.5 cubic meters ash delivered todays and all stored ready…bring it on.
