Just for fun.....
Name a watch that you think is currently under-rated or appreciated.

Not to everyone's taste, but I do like the brand Urban Jurgensen

Modern Doxas - I really don't understand why they seem to get a bad press in some quarters

42mm gets my vote.

Nomos ahoi atlantik
Stuff like basic Citizen eco-drive. Cheap, cheerful and surprisingly good.
This one :)
Edox Iceman. One of the best built watches I've ever handled/fondled.... ;-)
Ochs and Junior. I've got this configuration for the moon phase saved for when I feel brave

Yes I would agree that the 40mm Rolex Explorer 2 is under rated.
Most of the modern high end Raymond Weil line.
Specifically the Nabucco diver from a couple of years ago, and the Freelancer chrono from the current range. Both exceptional watches for a couple of grand.
Most Grand Seikos and Orients. Was aware of the names, but only got to know more after joining this forum. I now have a Grand Seiko Quartz Diver and an Orient Retrograde. Both from forum members.
Vacheron Constantin 42042 original Overseas - somewhat overlooked and still well priced for what it is. The recent white gold version has returned to the ultra-thin style, and it feels a bit more dressy and sophisticated than the larger, later ones. Beautifully put together and wonderfully solid too, comparing favourably with 14790ST Royal Oaks while feeling more substantial. There's even a completely ignored quartz version that has - at least until recently - been a bit of a bargain.
Oysterquartz 17000 - A firm favourite here but still overlooked in the scheme of things as people are wary of quartz and want a typical Rolex. I've been wearing mine today, such an awesome, bullet proof bracelet, unique style, and a solidity and weight that's quite different from mechanical datejusts of the time. Now confirmed as being a direct descendent from a Genta design (the 'texan') that pre-dated the RO. Brilliantly futuristic, in a 70s way.
1019 & 6541 Milgaus - Ok well not exactly under-rated, but what a watch and when did you last see one? When are they even discussed? They are not a brand that does re-issues, but still, imagine it.
Grand Seiko 9Fs - again not exactly under-rated and much loved by some, but many ignore high accuracy quartz in favour of mechanical and spring drive, even though the 9Fs are in many cases better proportioned (less thick), are low maintenance, are incredibly practical, and are special in their own right. My preferred GS in many ways.
Omega Aqua Terra Quartz, last applied indices generation - I tend to bang on about this one but it has the right combination of AT attributes such as brushed centre links and no date surround, is thinner than the mechanical version and so wears better, and has the independently adjustable hour hand 'time zone' function that goes back to the 70s Megaquartz, which went missing in the following generation. When the dust settles it might just be a classic, an affordable low maintenance, practical Omega beater in an era of price rises.
JLC Geophysic True Second - Some interest on launch, but largely ignored as looking like a quartz is an odd complication, and it's quite different from the usual romantic JLC style. But is it actually one of their best looking watches?
Girard Perregaux vintage dress watches. If you can find an oversized one, they can be lovely, but have never been highly valued.
Good question btw!

Interesting selection and I agree on a number of them. A lot of ticking watches in your selection including the mechanical geo! The Texan is great, I would like to get my hands on one of those, I saw one with bark texture bracelet in solid gold. Super bling but such a run watch and very cool indeed. Never see one available at attainable prices though, for me anyway, it would feel to frivolous to get one and I have a number of watches higher up the wishlist at that kind of money!

Rolex Air King. Latest model
Vintage Accurists.
Good quality swiss ebauche movements, can be found for under a tenner on ebay.
Breguet Type XX Aeronavale
Agreed on the Grand Seiko 9F models (pre- re-branded versions with 'SEIKO' displayed in top 1/3), the no-date and historical variants in particular. Citizen Chronomasters too, especially as service costs for mechanicals go up in the coming years.
Speedmaster Tin Tin also gets my vote, always thought this would be a few £k more at least.

Watches by GGB (Carl). I have the 6B Mk2.
Dubey & Schaldenbrand rarely get a mention on here and seem to have some interesting and attractive designs.
Really great thread. I spent a pleasurable hour-long train journey this morning chasing down some of the suggestions.
I think Nomos Club is under-rated though it does have some exposure in the forum.

I'd say Chronoswiss are a good shout - Really nice details & well finished
I bought the Pacific to be 'under the radar'...

Fully agree with you. I always enjoy your pictures of this model. I miss my Kairos.
Vintage Eberhard watches for me. They don't get mentioned on here very often and you can get some truly beautiful ones for not a lot of dosh. A case in point:-
Oris fly under the radar and are hugely underrated imo.
Alpina are another for me.
PP 5167 often goes un-noticed.
Eterna Super Kontiki Limited Edition 1973. Love the original and apart from the increase in size to 42mm this is a very faithful tribute.

Speedmaster MkIV Is there a cheaper Speedmaster Pro. Unloved and unwanted, but for how long?

Like some others have said, I think the Grand Seiko 9F watches are a class act that is hard to beat. Beautiful, slim, low maintenance - they are a watch lover's dream come true.
The Rolex Sub. Hardly ever mentioned here anymore.
Seriously, Alpina, Fréderique Constant, Maurice Lacroix, Roger Dubuis, Revue Thommen are all doing interesting things but never get a mention.
Tag Heuer. Finish EASILY comparable to Omega but frequently frowned upon by non Tag owners
