Another car I suppose, public transport being what it is around these parts cars are just a guaranteed hole in the pocket.
Recently, there's been plenty of concern for residuals, lots of hoping to be getting back what the watch owes you etc etc. Meanwhile, the pleasures of being the one person who watches the value of something plummet just by buying it have been going undercelebrated.
What are you looking forward to getting, in the happy knowledge that you'll never see a significant slice of its price again?

Retrospective perhaps, but there must be an awful lot of Voyagers languishing in sock drawers around the world, bought in a fog of greed with expectations of large profit to be made as per the original Dreadnought. How crestfallen these buyers must be to see them still in stock. For the rest there is only the joy of ownership and wearing a watch that was always worth the new price.

I can't take my mind off the blue 116622 for my next watch.
I know I'm going to take a kicking on it.
It's gonna have to be a Grand Seiko for me. Looking to build up a collection but trying to buy well to avoid a 50% drop in a few years!
I've been pleasantly surprised by how little I've lost on all the watches I've bought and sold, but I've one watch I know I would lose* massively on. Since I bought it with no intention of selling it, I actually enjoy the extra level of commitment that has come with the unrecoverable outlay.
*except how could I claim to "lose" on something which has given that much pleasure?
I think you're right.
I'll admit I got caught up in Voyager fever and bought one thinking I might sell it for a profit a year or so down the line.
I wasn't even that keen on it when it arrived, but fortunately a dive trip to the US changed my mind and I'm in the 'happy to wear a watch worth the price' camp now (I also requested a serial number with some significance to me, so that's a bonus).
What I really can't understand is why the Dreadnought is so valued relative to the Voyager - I much prefer the later watch!
More than once I've thought of buying another and having it polished and then brushed as I think it'd look great!

Backwardpoint - your 'you only live once' thread is here!
I'm off to see Reading thrash Aston Villa tonight - that's £25 plus petrol plus pie money I won't be seeing again. Does that count?
"A man of little significance"
Glad I'm not the only one who's thought about having their Voyager polished 😊. Would probably get burned at the stake though for such sacrilege. Got mine off a WTB here and worn it pretty much every day since I got it. Couldn't care less about it's value now, it's worth every penny of it's price new.
Probably the next watch I buy
Diamonds. My wife donated a kidney to me 12 days ago. Not out the woods yet, but I'm getting them whatever happens
I must get one of the previous generations of Breitling Superocean Heritage in blue before they all sell out.
I've seen the new ones last Saturday and they ruined the design with the new hands and larger date window.
On the basis that I'm, out of principle, not going to buy an over priced Daytona, I'm now lusting after an IWC Portuguese 7 day. The new ones just look gorgeous!
It may be easier to start another thread titled "Who's bought a watch recently that's not a Rolex, Omega or Patek?" and we can all watch the tumble weed blow across it...
Rich.
For me, it's one of Grand Seiko's pricier quartz, the SBGV207 with a similar, angled case shape to the GMT. I've already owned and sold a similarly priced SBGX085 for a healthy loss, and spent the proceeds on another GS quartz, which I could also now sell for a loss, to buy the 207, and so the cycle continues... and what have I learned from this? Very little unfortunately, I just like them!

Ochs and Junior. No idea if I'll ever be brave enough to get order one though
I always take a bath on bags.
Watchwise, I really want an ap roo diver. It might as well come with a shower cap rather than bp's.
Ive recently decided to get in to mountain biking, the sensible angel on my shoulder is saying buy a budget bike to see if you enjoy/like it, the devil on the other is demanding I visit the local specialist and spend a lot of money on a fully sorted bike.
I'm trying to avoid buying another cheap and obscure vintage watch that only appeals to me, I'd never sell anyway, and will still cost more than it's worth to service.
Entirely voluntary (as it must be by law), despite my misgivings. She's doing fine, me less so but still early. The diamonds were ordered pre-op so, yes, she's getting them come what may. Profoundly moving seeing her after waking up. Even more than i thought. The very definition of courage; to do something that you know will hurt like @&"£, but to do it anyway for someone else. She deserves jewels and more.

Thank you. A lot.
Go for it. I splashed a fortune on a hardtail stumpjumper a few years ago. Amazing kit. Worth nothing now tho.

I'd like to see some images if there are any.More than once I've thought of buying another and having it polished and then brushed as I think it'd look great!
Thank you very much for your messages. They're good to hear.
However, it's only fair that i don't highjack this thread so...back on topic: A 16750 matt dialled Rolex GMT is also on the list to drop a shedload on. It will be nice to get past all this hospital nonsense and get back to buying watches. Like normal.
Sounds like your wife is a diamond! Good luck and get well soon to you both.
As far as my next expense, I've wanted a Monaco for a long time, I don't have the funds now so I can't get the one on SC, a bargain that would seriously offset any losses, so I'm probably left with a grey market one when I can scare up the cash!
Probably one of the new 40mm Bremont Supermarines

Oh if only I had access to SC I'd be delighted to help you all recoup some of your expenditure. Maybe next year...
Still hurting from the 60% burn on the JLC Master Calendar
Ochs and Junior for me too, but the simpler and more accessible date. Will probably get one when I get remarried, and for the full financial sacrifice, will have a caseback engraving of personal significance, although "cheesy" from an external viewpoint. That should make it unsaleable, although it should be a watch for life.
Dave
seeing those Ochs and Junior watches has reminded me I really want a mih watch. Not that I think you take a bath on those...
Probably yet another Titoni. Almost definitely in fact.
