Surely they wouldn't put a cyclops on a SD - would they???
These guys are usually pretty good in their predictions, and this is an abortion of a piece being predicted: http://rolexpassionreport.com/20205/...selworld-2017/
Surely they wouldn't put a cyclops on a SD - would they???
I don't know but I'd like to see a Sea-dweller with Matt dial and bezel insert and optional oysterflex.
They've also predicted models with red and blue "SEA-DWELLER" text. This site has been accurate in the past, but they also predict a lot of models that don't come true. The SD has a protruding crystal so it's doubtful they'd add a cyclops, but I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks.
Lose the cyclops, and not too bad.
That cyclops is a deal breaker for me. I like the red writing, don't like the 43mm size and absolutely hate the thought of sticking a cyclops on a SD.
I suppose at least the cyclops could be easily removed...
Not that easy! The latest gens have an anti-reflective coating on the underside of the crystal below the cyclops so just removing the cyclops leaves a shadow on the crystal.
Crystal swap is the only way and unlike with the 114060/116620's I'm not sure which model would share the same crystal (the current gen 116600 should fit but depends on model updates if this does even happen)
I hope so.
The cyclops (ugh) and bloated size would save me 7 grand from not buying one.
Has anyone heard any information on the Deepsea or James Cameron being discontinued, was just wondering as it's a 50 yr anaversary of the sea dweller so may be a few changes ahead
Cheers
Tony
As i have said many times a 42mm Sub and a 42mm SD are long over due but not sure about a cyclops on a SD
i guess we'll find out in a week or so time on what their plan is.
highly doubt anyone but Rolex themselves know what they plan to if, if anything that is.
The staff in Goldsmith Notts told me last week the the Deepsea was being discontinued. I'm sure they just said the SeaDweller, but think she corrected herself to just the Deepsea. I don't know one from the other with the newer ones so I wasn't paying full attention. Some Rolex somewhere with the word "Sea" in it was being discontinued. I know that much :)
Size is ok but it needs to lose the eye.. How many poorly sighted deep sea divers need to know the date at 4000ft under water?
Oh COME ON!!!!!
Rolex has not been about tool watches since the early sixties. The totally ascertained by huge success company strategy was towards luxury/jewelry watches.
The 1680 was the first Submariner to be equipped with a date function, marking the completion of the transition of the Submariner line from specialist tool watch to mass market fashion accessory. While many professional and military divers used—and continue(d) to use—Submariners in the most demanding underwater environments, by the late 1960s, the watch had undeniably principally become a mass market desk dwelling product.
Making the Seadweller more attractive to more buyers is fully in line with established as successful company policy.
I love this watch, i hope that this is all true as i will certainly be having one, that is if i can find one
I used my GMTs for work ( aviation) am in the market for another GMT but wouldn't be impressed if they increased the case size.
Seadweller discontinued is that confirmed??
Those Explorer mock-ups look absolutely dreadful.

Great little thread and whilst speculation is high is it just a calculated guess coupled with a aspiration by enthusiasts. It would be fine at 43mm and without a cyclops equally if it was red writing it would be the classic new trying to look old that they did with Tudor to some degree and will never replicate the true 'Red Writing' watches to own. Blue writing is likely and I would like to think that would be in precious metal. One things for sure it will be exciting, talked to death about and send everyone into a frenzy and give them something to talk about for a few years.

Do I care, errr no not really. Sorry not meant to sound so trite but at the end of the day it's not worth getting your kecks in a twist over.

I will be surprised, but by no means astonished, if rolex up the size of the SD. Addition of a cyclops would be unfortunate, and not in tune with one of the reasons why some people buy the SD instead of a Sub date.
If they phase out the current incarnation after a run of - what -only three years? Well, plenty reason for current owners to be happy. :)
ADs have told me otherwise. I believe it has been discontinued and TRF seems to agree https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...=519427&page=6
Wrong image: anyway, I'll report back from Basel in 2 weeks.

I really cannot see Rolex putting a cyclops on any new Seadweller at all.
I think it looks great but I like the cyclops and the look of the modern rolexes, and I'm sure it would be a huge seller if released
You could well be right. I bought mine last year for full retail which I've never done as i really wanted the seadweller 4000. Id love it if it were discontinued. I love the watch and the fact its had a small production run could be the icing on the cake. Has it been confirmed as discontinued though at this stage? No.
I did call my A.D in watches of switzerland in London and she did confirm they've had no sea dweller 4000's since last october. This leads me to also believe it may be discontinued.....but no confirmation yet!
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Whatever they do to it, it will sell like hot cakes and won't be seen in an AD window for 12 months
Just because of the RED ?
Looks cool

I know for a fact the current version of the Seadweller will be phased out, become an instant classic, and prices on them will double overnight. No, I don't have an inside source at Rolex but i know for a fact it will becuase I sold mine today!
Typical, my SD4 was to be my every day watch when I bought it but now I can't wear it because it's a collectors item! When BLNR's were all the rage all you saw in AD windows were SD4K's and Datejusts!
I hope it isn't above 40mm and really hope it doesn't have a cyclops.
