You got the model names to hand?
You got the model names to hand?
Thanks, the one of the left seems a lot nicer than the watch labeled "Tudor".
Homage, is an entirely different concept to cheap fake.
What makes them Explorer hommages?
On the money with both of those Ian.
The Tiger is quite amazing VFM with a choice of movements.
I wish they (or someone) did a manual wind 34mm Oyster homage. I very much doubt I will ever be able to afford an original.

Hi guys
You must be new generation wis forum users.
The other watch is the mkii vantage with custom dial/hands.
Because I like the explorer so much I don't want explorer looking watches but explorer essence watches. Hence the custom there.
So here you have my eplorer style hommages.
Here's a quick review:
BB36
Wish it had a double domed sapphire
Vantage
Wish it were 36mm
That's it.
When the word homage is used to describe a copy, people complain that that's not what the word means.
When someone uses homage in a looser way, closer to the spirit of the original meaning, other people complain.
Bubi baby -The one on the left is going for a smiths w10 or omega 53 homage. If it's mkii it's along the lines of a prs 53 or 29a
More so the w10 than the 53
Nice pics and pair btw
Yes it's a bit of a double edged sword the whole homage concept but if he likes them that's what matters
Bubi if you like the double domes you should look at our hosts Smiths Everest as mentioned or even prs 29b which is larger than your mkii I think
Chaps
To be frank, comparing that load of tat to an Explorer is like comparing Ena Sharples to Marilyn Monroe.
Regards
Mick
Franks right
I wish Tudor would stop adding that crown sleeve thing.
That's fine by me, but at the end of the day it is just your opinion. Not everyone on here is able afford 4 PPs or a box full of assorted Rolex etc. A lot of homage brands are exceptional quality for relatively little money compared to what you regard as the real thing.
Each to own or those PP lists would be even longer.
When you turn out the light tonight and get all snugly in your cosy warm bed, and are thinking back on how you spent your day of privilege and plenty, be sure to remember that you logged onto a forum on the internet and sneered at other people's belongings. Then smile yourself a little smile, and sigh a happy sigh. Sweet dreams.
What a load of angst about watches... some people have strange priorities. Who actually gives a toss whether some internet poster thinks a watch is tat or not?

Now that everyone knows you are the forum nice guy who cares about everyones feelings, you can snuggle up in bed in the knowledge that even more people love you.
If you want you can tell me my watches are rubbish and I promise not to get upset.
Nighty night

That basically is my attitude as well.
I suppose we can draw the cold day scania wheelnuts comparison in the name of gender equality ;)
Does it actually make the crown protrude further from the case or is the body of it shortened to compensate for the sleeve? (If that non technical spiel makes sense)
This is watch talk not the boys room, Charlie big potatoes.
The vantage was THE explorer homage back then.
When rolex was still making it in 36mm and with the applied indices and flat sapphire, and no lug holes any longer, bill came out with 39mm case, double domed ar sapphire, lug holes and type 48 and 53 dial options in place of the standard printed 369 mercedes handset.
After a couple of years rolex made the explorer in 40mm as hommage to the vantage.
Or something like that.
I suppose that depends on your criteria/value system. Each to their own.
[QUOTE=bubi;4165613]Rolex is too boring. Too easy.
I like alternatives. Alternatives make you explore the world, they provide an enlightening experience.

What a sensible and refreshing post.
I'm generally finding the reasons why to be of far more interest than the things themselves.
Edit: Oh dear! - I didn't split an infinitive there did I?

I had this Vantage, but could never quite gel with it. The date, dial and orange tip put me off.
I bought an Explorer four years later and while there is a quality increase, the Bill Yao was a very well built watch and most certainly is not tat.
Tried one on today. The crown feels like it could be a proper wrist-digger TBH (and the wrist shot here suggests this is the case: https://monochrome-watches.com/tudor...-review-price/).
All in all the whole thing felt more blingy in person than I wanted it to and I'm with you Bubi about the crystal - I'd also be happy with a top-hat style sapphire but flat to the bezel seems like a missed opportunity...
