Don't Breathe. Ot was ok.
Kubo and the Two Strings is excellent. Notionally a children's film, but none the worse for that.
Thanks to the recommendation earlier in the thread I watched Siege of Jadotville last night. Really enjoyed it espacially as Jamie Dornan kept his clothes on for once.
Really enjoyed In The Heart of The Sea.
Took the kids to see STORKS and TROLLS over the weekend. Enjoyed them both, the music in Trolls is fab.
Swiss Army Man.
Probably the strangest film you will watch all year, very surreal . I couldn't even begin to explain the plot but it involve a farting corpse that also produces fresh water from his mouth.
The acting, I have to say, is amazing though. Daniel Radcliffe is the corpse ably supported by Paul Dano.
This is definitely one that you will either really love or really hate.
On previous recommendations, i did catch the Siege of Jadotville. Excellent film made better by the fact that it was a true story. If it had been fiction you d be arguing that the Irish couldn't have had so few casualties in the face of the numbers they faced. added to the politics behind it all , it made a great film even better.
alsojust watched the Siege of Jadotville on Netflix - brilliant movie
I watched Blood Father with Mel Gibson. It was a good tale, a Sunday afternoon film.
Just watched Ice Station Zebra on the telly, I think it must be the first time since seeing it at the flicks (1968) when I probably went with my dad.
The submarine commander (Rock Hudson) and the XO were wearing apparently identical large, three-register, reverse panda chronographs - Bulovas maybe?
This evening I watched Embrace of the Serpent, winner of a raft of awards and the first Colombian film to be nominated for an Oscar. Mesmerising and haunting cinematography and a story that transports the viewer into the Amazon during an era of destructive colonialism. I thought it was excellent.
Thanks - I'll try to track that down. There's a modest monument to Bernardo just around the corner from our apartment.
Got to see Hunt for the Wilderpeople last night - charming and funny and a generally uplifting experience.
Don't Breathe.... not bad for a blind man
One of my favourite films and, coincidentally, the same age as me, which is amazing.
It looks a bit hokey in places now, not least Alec Guiness blacked up, but the cinematography and music and just the vision Lean and co put into portraying a really rather introspective and poetic book into film form is, I think, pretty breathtaking even today.
By contrast, I watched "London has Fallen" on my iPad on a plane yesterday!

I just started on Double indemnity
1944 and they had drive ins for beer
I wonder if Alan Partridge watched this clip 50 seconds in.
They really don't make films like this anymore.

just saw Primer again. a very clever film.
I just watched Ben Affleck in "The Accountant." It can be a challenge (for me, anyway) to follow the plot, but it's nevertheless excellent.
+1 for Tom cruise in Live, die, repeat - edge of tomorrow.
I warmed to the story very quickly - good boys own film.
Re-watched once upon a time in the west, which I got from poundland for (yes you guessed it ) 1Ł.
Excellent cowboys, music, long glances and stares and Claudia Cardinale - what a beauty she was.

Kung Fury is my new favourite film of all time!
but it wont be everyone's cup of tea. It is not worth trying to make sense of the plot!
Just watching Leon , had to Google, didn't realize that was a young Natalie Portman
Movie 43
Could very easily have gone - and probably still could go - into the worst film threads (especially if you're an IMDB junkie) but myself and my wife were in a puerile mood.
13 hours. Secret soldiers of Bhengazi. Story of the CIA safe house that got attacked by Lybian rebels.. Great action flick and true story.
Cheers..

We watched 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec' this weekend, a really fun movie. I'd say it's Luc Besson's best film since Leon.

It was the US version Unfortunately La Femme Nikita wouldn't work on my download widget.
Watched Captain America Civil War last night and it was pretty good- I kept expecting them all to have a group hug and fight the baddies.
Liked the new Spidey his solo film has potential.
Slight off topic I am cooking while listening to Les Mis

Watched the mask of Zoro with my youngest (13) this afternoon, great entertainment
Deepwater Horizon.
Surprisingly good - wasn't nearly the "huge, disaster epic" I had anticipated.
Kung fu panda 3... really fun!
In a fit of nostalgia brought on by a bout of man flu the last couple of days I've watched some older classics,
The Big Lebowski and Boogie Nights, both of which I'm sure will need no introduction.
13 Hours - exciting and well made
Dark Places - watchable but trashy
Grimsby - purile and disgusting (appealed to my schoolboy sense of humour though)
And an oldie I rewatched last night: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - haven't seen it for years and it seems to have held up rather well.
Just watching Grimsby - so far it's hilarious!
Cheers..

Went to see Dr Strange with the kids yesterday - enjoyed it, though the effects did make me feel a bit giddy. More of an intro into the character rather than a film in its own right.
Family movie night - Back to the Future 1&2. Probably watch part 3 over the weekend.
I, Daniel Blake
I suspect of limited appeal to a TZ-UK audience.

I watched Anthropoid last night.
Based on the events around the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich - The Butcher of Prague
Worth a viewing imho.

Kind Hearts and Coronets from last week. Part of the Ealing Comedy special that Gold did this month.
Just finished watching Excalibur. I don't know a soul who likes it but I think it is a fantastic film and a great legend.
Last night we watched Looking For Eric - a Ken Loach film about the depressed existence of a Mancunian postman (called Eric) and featuring some significant input from a certain M. Cantona (also called Eric). Absolutely superb and with a beautifully and comically engineered dénouement (and let's face it - getting the word comically into a Ken Loach film review is a feat in itself).
BBC Iplayer has something at the moment which looks like a Nordic Noir version of Cold Cases; Department Q: The Keeper of Lost Causes. Whilst billed as a film it looks like it could be the taster for a forthcoming series of Saturday night BBC4 Scandic crimis. We shall see but definitely worthwhile.

I haven't been to the pictures for a fair while, but November looks like a great month for movie releases.
A couple of days away from Hacksaw Ridge, and a week away from Arrival.
Not one, but two films looking interesting enough to coax me out of my hard earned in a month.
Saw Sin City II last night and enjoyed it.
I really like the monochrome comic book style of those films. A shame they don't use the style for some of the comic book spinoffs rather than the style they usually go for i.e crap.
Cheers,
Neil.
