Film was good, book was better!

Watched The Iceman the other night and really enjoyed it.
True story about mafia hitman Richard Kuklinski.
Cheers,
Neil.

I watched Collateral this afternoon while my boys were having a nap
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. I really enjoyed it
The Witch is creepy & disturbing. Very well done.
Watched High Rise last weekend, still not sure what I made of it. Sort of reminded me a bit of a Peter Greenaway film
but not as stylish.
Predestination
Really clever time-travel paradox movie or weird. You decide!
Thanks to this thread I watched Sightseers at the weekend.
Very dark, but also very amusing.

Watched JASON BOURNE today at the cinema.
Brilliant !
"Jason Bourne" won't hit California until Friday. Took my middle son (24) to watch Brian Cranston in "The Infiltrator."
Excellent!
Saw, Inside Llewyn Davis and enjoyed it. A Coen bros film so I expected quality.
It's the story of a week in the life of a folk singer in 1961 NYC.
The ups and downs, mostly downs are told in a compelling way.
Thumbs up from me.
Cheers,
Neil.
Star Trek Beyond is worth a watch enjoyable romp
Suite Francaise was good. WW2 France under Gerry occupation. The other half loved it and keeps asking when we can watch it again. There is some love stuff going on. If you want to impress the other half try this.
The Big Short
Great cast....like an intelligent Wolves of Wall Street.
Hard to follow some of the tecci financial speak but supported by witty talking to camera sections. Expectations were low, but a great film; thoroughly enjoyed.
Got The Room to watch next - also supposed to be a very good movie
No escape. Good film, pretty tense.
Blue Is The Warmest Colour
Three words: French lesbian hotties.
Many words: Quite possibly the most astonishing acting I've seen in quite some time, the lead girl in particular is simply magnificent (esp. at circa. 18 at filming). She will go far
Just watched Oldboy (US version) on Film4 and I thought it was very good, when I have the time I will try to watch the original (South Korean).
Not sure if this belongs here or the bad thread, but as i enjoyed it, it's going here.
Last night while channel hopping i stumbled across a gem of a movie called 'Rubber', about an old car tyre that comes to life, develops psychokinetic powers that allow it to explode people, then goes on a killing spree. Believe it or not, that's not the oddest part of the plot. Bad, but in a good way, almost verging on genius, maybe.
Brighty
Sicario.
Well shot, some interesting characters and downright brutal in places. No nonsense. Enjoyed it.
Jason Bourne - enjoyed it as much as the rest of the Matt Damon series.
Tommy Lee Jones is looking rough though!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot- definitely worth a viewing IMHO

We watched The Fundamentals of Caring last week. A fairly enjoyable film though with the odd and unnecessary cheesy "American" scene. A very good performance from the boy from Submarine and a bloody awful portrayal by Jennifer Ehle as his mother; incredibly wooden and with a really peculiar accent (or rather a selection of them).
Bone Tomahawk - it's a western.. really good!! Thriller about an abduction in the local town by an apache tribe of cannibals and the hunt for the missing person(s).
Thoroughly enjoyed it! :-)
Late to the party as its relatively old now, but watched Argo the other day. Really good film.
I'm on a bit of a documentary film viewing spree at the moment. Really into the West Memphis 3 crime story so have watched since Sunday
West of Memphis
Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost 2 - Revelations
and going to watch Paradise Lost 3 - Purgatory at the weekend. I'm into True Crime podcasts at the moment and even though I'd had West of Memphis in my Netflix to watch list, this was a case on True Crime Garage in the last few weeks so tweaked my interest.
Watched The Imitation Game last night and although I already knew all about Alan Turing and am not keen on Cumberbatch it held my attention all the way through.
Cumby played Turing as an autistic type which I'd never read before but makes sense I guess.
Cheers,
Neil.
Currently watching Planes, Trains & Automobilesdownloaded on Sky Cinema.
About as good as films get for me. Love it
Took my two young adult sons to "Jason Bourne" this week. We all thought it was great. I liked it better than any of the earlier versions.
For the first time in about 2 years I had time to watch a film in the evening and went for....Dr Strangelove. Enjoyed it hugely, not exactly current though !
Not sure if it's been mentioned but really enjoyed THE RACK PACK
BBC film about the snooker scene in the early 1980s, the guy playing Alex Higgins pulls an especially good performance
It's on BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...uggid=p03bv0t5
Just watched Batman vs Superman. A lot darker than I was expecting and of course 45 minutes too long, like just about every film made these days - the last 45 minutes were a waste of time and effort, why do directors do that? Nonetheless, a good preparation for Wonder Woman and Justice League. Talking of Wonder Woman, that there Gal Gadot, oh my!
Finally, I got around to watching The Big Red One ( the reconstruction, 2004 ) last night.
Glad I did - well worth a watch.

Captain America Civil War: great no brainer action film. Like

"The Imitation Game" was quite good, as was "Eye In The Sky"
Eddie the eagle is worth a watch.
Saw In The Electric Mist last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Just my sort of film really, Southern Gothic. Mysterious, surreal and set in the Louisiana bayous.
Very good cast too.
Well worth a watch
Cheers,
Neil.
Midnight Special. A dad and his son are on the run. But the son is very far from normal. Original and, I thought, pretty damn good.
The Revenant. Finally got around to this. Not exactly a fun night in. Gruelling, but without question a quality film. (and a largely true story I gather…the mind boggles.)
Spotlight. Brilliant. Slow burn, subtle and builds wonderfully.
Jason Bourne. Why did they bother? Brain dead, thin, plotless…and most importantly doesn't have the heart of the first three. Crashing waste of Alicia Vikander.
Then I recommend you read James Lee Burke's other stories (if you haven't already done so). There are loads of books with his detective, Dave Robicheaux - vietnam vet', ex New Orleans PD - the first in the series is The Neon Rain. The second in the series - Heaven's Prisoners - was made into a film with a pre-porky Alec Baldwin playing Robicheaux.
Watched Four Lions again last night.
Very funny.
Didn't realise it was Kayvan (fonejacker) who plays Waj - the daft one.

Watched Layer Cake last night on Netflix. It's well worth a second look if you haven't seen it for 10 years and interesting to see the two actors who play out the final scene when you think about the on-screen relationship they would have during the following years.
Watched Dinosaur 13 last night. Really good documentary with more than a sniff of 'Making a Murderer' about it. Highly recommended.
