Personally I really like the dial colour and the lume looks great, but the cartoon front and back mean its a no at any price.

So that's $15k if not higher ;).
If you want to play, you got to pay. Omega fans for years have been saying the watches had the measure of Rolex, and now some of their watches are booting flat-O metres-first rail-dial squashed-crown double Reds (or whatever) into the weeds for value accretion. So why all the brickbats? It should be celebrated. Pay the $15k, and sell it to another rich man for $20k next week! He will sell it to a man in China for $30k and so on, and it'll just get passed around until the music stops. Key for asset collectors is not to be the one holding it when the music stops.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
You are right of course, but knowing my luck I will be the poor chap left holding an expensive worthless watch. Omegas are like buses and another one will be along soon. The Blue Speedmaster Co-axial moon phase is unveiled at Baselworld next week and is scheduled to hit the UK shops from October. I am waiting for an announcement on the RRP post BW before doing anything.
Lot of people saying they're waiting on the 50th Anniversary, but I wonder how Omega are going to handle that - seeing as they already released the 50th Ann edition in 2007, with loads of versions: red gold, white gold, yellow gold, SS, SS patch... And all of the collectibles.
I got rid of mine as the whole LE thing just got too much - kept the collectibles though!
It'll be a photo realistic moon as the dial with some mark to depict the landing site, it'll probably have 'the Eagle has landed' or 'That's one small step for a watch' written on it too..cutting in to some of the hour markers, Apollo 11 mission badge engraved on the case back....and it'll come on a fabric strap. The watch box will be Command Module shaped
Just wait until they're all finally released and the new hotness from Basel starts to hit the shelves and these ridiculous prices will be history. I mean, yeah, folks are kidding themselves if they think that the Snoopy will ever go for below list price, but $15K? Nope.
Regards,
Adam
Watchfinder are considering offers in excess of £11k.
It makes the ones offered on here at around £6.5k seem like a bargain now.
Does this watch set a new precedent - selling for twice RRP whilst new ones are not yet fully delivered to their new owners. Has this ever happened before and what happened to the prices in the following years.
I agree with Adam that they will are unlikely to drop below RRP, but what is a sensible price.
Watchfinder have yet another in - again, offers over £11k or they will enter it into an auction they are planning for later in the year.

There is also a fresh one on e-bay for £10.5k from a seller in London with the user name dijitech (a chap named Sam). I asked him if he was a member of TZ, but he didn't answer that question. I also asked him for his best price for a quick sale, another question he didn't answer. I was always taught that if a seller doesn't answer your questions - don't deal with them.

Sam, if you are on here - PM me.
Ridiculous prices! Somebody explain this to me! Just 5,900 Euros last year? 1970 watches! What?!
"In microeconomics, supply and demand is an economic model of price determination in a market. It concludes that in a competitive market, the unit price for a particular good will vary until it settles at a point where the quantity demanded will equal the quantity supplied resulting in an economic equilibrium for price and quantity transacted."
But you and everyone else knew that already. If most the stock is being sat on until its owners get a sense that the price has peaked, then that's just going to increase the pressure on price, no?
Or are you just objecting to the price of a watch being so dependent on added value?
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
You are not that far away, prices in excess of £13k have appeared on Chrono24 - do they sell though ?
UK based sellers are still relatively rare - hence why I flagged up the two currently being offered.
What is the end game though - what will a worn example be worth in five years or will the majority (as you say) be sitting in vaults, boxed and still retaining the original stickers.
No - I think that is too extreme. I would certainly pay the £6.5k that the couple that appeared on SC a few months back were offered for.
Unfortunately market forces are dictating the price. If Watchfinder want £11k+ then logically they must be offering £8k to £8.5k as a buy in price. Therefore no one in their right mind will sell below £8.5k.
When those two appeared on SC I think the Watchfinder buy in was around the £6.5k mark and they were selling for £8.5k. Those who bought on here did very well - even though there was a lot of hostility at the time.
Looks very nice.
Is it really worth the extra though?
It would be interesting to know if anyone has overpaid against the RRP for a watch. Rolex DSSD Deep Blue, Omega Limited Editions, Rolex Daytona for example.
Sometimes the easiest and quickest way to buy an in demand watch is to pay over the odds, which is the basis for most of this thread.
Ive paid over list for a Daytona before.

My friend was contacted last week by Omega Stratford and told his order was cancelled. He was #4 on the list and they had already had 3 and no more would be coming in. Basically Omega are just manipulating the market which I know goes on but he is an Omega afficionado (or was). He's now considering the Daytona
It's very interesting about prices but when a company like Omega only makes 1970 world wide the market will be very strong. My dealer told me that they (Omega) had buggered up the allocation and were calling 40+ dealers to tell them that the watches they were expecting won't be turning up.
Is it a good investment......................?
The prices are holding due to the lack of numbers, it's a nice watch still haven't decided if it's a great watch.
Mine is just sat in the safe and only been on my wrist twice.
So where are these watches going. I have heard from several people who have had their orders cancelled and even an AD manager told me the other week that Omega had instructed them to cancel any waiting lists, including people who had paid sizable deposits.
I can only assume that the entire UK allocation slowly makes its way to Watchfinder.

I amazed these watches command such a premium to the RRP. I get supply versus demand but for me it's not an investment piece.
A good investment piece usually is high in demand and rare (quite often vintage). Yes this ticks both boxes but knowing omega like we all do there will soon be a meteorite dialled version, coloured versions, you name it and omega will spin a version of it.
Could ADs be selling to family and friends? it's an easy 10 grand!

This whole thread is absolutely bonkers. Can't believe people have this kind of money to throw at a watch!

Surely all this is panic buying because
* Limited Edition
* Has Snoopy on it, hmmm, quirky but with proper provenance as it is a true bit of NASA history
* Last Snoopy always in demand so let's snap this up!
Because let's face it, it's not the prettiest Speedmaster Professional ever made or is it?
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
NO! I have a self-imposed spending limit that I'm willing to pay for a single watch these days but as the RRP was close to that I was prepared to go a little over and pay RRP!
The old Snoopy models have been hiked up too, the entry point on Chrono24 appears to be £6k and I thought I paid top wack for mine a couple of years ago...
I'm one of those who had one and sold it to watchfinder. Bought it at retail from AD in Italy €6100 and sold for £7000. Now I have another one coming. Still undecided what I'm going to do with it, I might keep it this time. If I were to sell, it would never be here. I would just be accused of profiteering off the back of true enthusiast. Regardless of RRP the market value is completely different.

Some of those "true enthusiasts" will be playing that card to ensure they get a chance at turning an easy profit. Of course some won't, they just like the watch (although perhaps not enough to put a deposit down at RRP for something they know is going to be in demand!) and want to buy it and keep it. But the debate as to why some people feel entitled to a discount vs. market rates on the basis of their true-enthusiast-ness is completely separate.
Personally I'd have no qualms about attracting and retaining a large quantity of surplus from a Brazilian or Russian (etc.) multimillionaire collector. Absolutely none at all.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
I don't think anyone on here genuinely expects 'mates rates' or for anyone to sell below what any dealer would buy it at. But I thought what Ryan did a few months back was a really nice gesture when he gave anyone who wanted it the opportunity to buy it at Watchfinders buy in price.
He received a lot of stick at the time because he was asking more than he had paid, I for one supported his actions at that time and still do.
Out of interest, the top end prices on e-bay and Chrono24 - say people asking £10k to £13.5k don't seem to be moving, so perhaps there is an upper limit that people are prepared to go to.
To answer the question in the title of the thread: I just have..

The hunt is finally over for me and I couldn't be more chuffed - a huge thank you to the seller for agreeing to let it go.
So now that you have it in your hands, was it worth the wait and the premium?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Absolutely. There is another thread currently running with people discussing how much ceramic Daytonas are going to cost and how much of a premium you would have to pay to get one that is being passed on by someone who was lucky enough to get an early arrival.
There are similarities with the Snoopy and indeed the Rolex DSSD Deep Blue, both of which currently sell for a premium on the secondary markets. If you want one you have to pay a premium and unlike the other models mentioned, which may become more available later on, the Snoopy definately will not. In fact, some ADs are being told that promised deliveries will now not happen and that they should scrap waiting lists and give any deposits back leaving customers with nowhere to go but the secondary market.
Back to the watch, it is superb. The case back is stunning and the strap and the deployant are really comfortable and easy to adjust and use.
I wanted a white faced Speedmaster and as a kid grew up watching the Apollo missions on television starting with Apollo 8 at Christmas time 1968 and through to the end in 1972, so this model enabled me to tick a few boxes (remember watches do not tick boxes !!).
All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and don't really worry about what will happen to it financially as I am not looking to sell on. You will not see this one at Watchfinders in the future.

Congratulations! Gotta say, it's nice to see that another bloke who "gets" it got it, if you catch my meaning. This is a special watch for those of us who grew up with the both the space program and Peanuts, and then later on became dyed in the wool watch nuts. A true triple threat piece, if you will.
As with yours, mine isn't going anywhere other than my wrist:
Wear it in good health.
Regards,
Adam
Many thanks Adam - much appreciated.
Do you wear yours everyday, or save it for special occasions - I haven't quite decided. Afterall, the Speedmaster is supposed to be a daily wearer and the last thing I want is it becoming a safe queen - I bought it to wear.
For anyone seriously hunting for one, I am aware of another one just in from an AD - PM me for details.
