    Rolex diver comparison

    Evening all,

Following on from my thread about consolidating one's collection into just one or two prize pieces, I would like to start a debate covering the classic Rolex divers. Specifically the following models:

    14060/m Submariner
    16610 Submariner Date
    16600 Sea Dweller
    114060 Submariner

Firstly, can anyone tell me what differentiates the 14060 and 14060m? Is the latter COSC certified?

Secondly, what is the difference between the 16610 and 16600 apart from the valve and cyclops?

If you had the funds for one of the above (second hand), what would you choose and why?

    Wrist shots welcomed!

    Cheers,

    Rich

I have 3 of the 4 you have mentioned (no 114060). The SD is fatter slightly smaller dial but larger bezel. It has an helium escape valve and goes to deeper depths ( 4000ft compared to the 1000ft submariners). The SD is also heavier.

I believe the 14060m has a modified movement. Someone else can confirm. Also in the later 14060m it had an engraved rehaut and 4 lines on the dial. I think this was 2010 onwards.

Earlier two-line 14060m not COSC certified.
Later four-line 14060m is COSC certified.

Secondly, what is the difference between the 16610 and 16600 apart from the valve and cyclops?

    Depth rating?, FWIW

If you had the funds for one of the above (second hand), what would you choose and why?

    16600, date but no cyclops

14060 and 14060m - the m stands for modified as it has a 3130 movement which was also COSC rated. The very last of the 14060m's had a parachrom bleu hairspring also.

    16610 is a submariner date.
    16600 is a sea-dweller -
main differences is SD has the HE valve, no cyclops, 1200m depth rating, thicker case and crystal (sits higher and is heavier). The SD looks smaller visually as its stout and the dial isn't as wide as that of the sub date.

ill try and find some wrist shots.

    116610

14060m (note engraved rehaut and 4 lines of text)

14060 - 2 line dial and no engraving.

    16600

Can't help with a pic of a 16610 but there's been a sea dweller and sub comparison thread done by 100thmonkey (I think?)

Of those mentioned, I'd have the 16600. Because I did...

116600 (SD4000 - new model) and 114060 (new model) - comparison pic - main diffs - one is designed for depths to 4000ft - the other is designed for depths to 1000ft - also SD has a non-cyclops date - Sub does not. New SD has minute markers all round the bezel - Sub does not. The Date-sub (not shown) has a date with cyclops.
