I feel like I've seen something about this before. At least about the Submariners. Now I love PVD, but I'm not sure how I feel about these.
Bamford & Sons are doing all black Daytonas now.
There's a black Submariner on their web site.
Can't say I'm convinced. I wonder how much they are and how collectable they'll become?
They're reconditioned old Rolexes rather than new ones I gather.

For some reason, the PVD coating makes the right hand side seem very ungainly, the buttons just look very lopsided; never felt this way about the Daytona - so no, I'm not convinced.
Doubt they would ever be collectable - anyone could get this done, after all; if Rolex themselves did an LE like this, that would be collectable.
One word
Hype
Ok two words "expensive hype"

If you returned this to Rolex for a service would Rolex return it to standard or would they refuse to work on it since it has been changed from factory?Originally Posted by Ari

I haven?t seen a black Daytona yet but I?ve seen a black sub. In real life they look ok. Anything over a foot away ... you cannot see any of the details ... all the black blends-in.

Costume jewellery. Ouch!!!
Looks as if it's been dipped, or, it's not finished quite yet.
A suspicious part of me says: it's a neat way of refinishing, and covers a multitude of sins to the case.

(People keep posting offensive watches, and I keep liking them. What's wrong with me?!)
They'll do you a new one if you want.Originally Posted by Ari

There's nothing offensive about a nice ss, Daytona, imho.
Dip it in chocolate and get someone to lick it-it would probably turn out cheaper, and keep most of it's value (unlike the PVD, perhaps)-maybe more entertainment value for some, and even less offensive (though not in my book necc.)
Good idea, better than the standard Dulux orange peel, but hey!! its italian, who expects quality?why not paint a new Ferrari with hammerite??!!
Dont think it suits this watch, like John said it covers the details too much for me. prefer to leave it with its scuffs scratches etc if it had some anyway 8)
or beadblast it :thumbright: 8)

Crap - more hype IMHO
Will this be more 'exclusive' than the non-pvd one.......
Wait for the next round of this - aka 'Pro Hunter 2' - jeez what jerks...
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Ooh, no. Like a flip paint job on a classic car. I'm not a particular fan of the Daytona, but it's a good-looking watch in steel and that's practically a desecration. "Hey, I've got this really modern watch here, look! Look! Hey, look!"Originally Posted by abraxas

The pushers aren't screwed down. The normal SS Daytonas look imbalanced like that too.Originally Posted by thenikjones

i dont like it , why desecrate an awesome watch to begin with?
theres nothing more pleasing than to see a guy/ girl actually wear a daytona , ive seen a few whilst on holiday in hong kong and in dubai
mines gets worn a few times a week and its scratched and scuffed
the way it should be , rolex are tough it can take it :D
theres no need to pvd a perfectly good watch , imho it dont make it better
Maybe it's like the Breitling Blacksteel, same watch same movement, and a much higher asking price than the regular model.
Well, black is all the rage these days.
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Balck came in this time during the late 90's-and the dark age has still not left.
The pushers do look imbalanced like that, though they are practical, imho.
I agree Alanski, they look good worn.

I don't like PVD anyway but that just looks pony. :?
Cheers,
Neil.
Never been a fan of the Daytona (it's those hands!) but that just does not work. As with most Rolex, they should be left as is .. unless of course it looks like this:
/vince ..
