Just took this shot, and it sums up all the reasons I love this reference, and mine in particular. Domed plexi, matte dial, eggshell patina, chunky yet elegant case, rattly yet ultra-comfortable 9315 bracelet, and silver date wheel. Mine is far from the most amazing example of the 1665, but that just means I can wear it and not have to worry about it. I love my modern 114060 and 16600, but there really is something special about these vintage specimens.

Yes
Superb
I love them
Sadly just a bit out of my league
But they have a magic that just makes me want one so much
I would like one of those
These are truly spectacular I'd love a 1979 if anyone has one!
Love them!
Wow, amazing pair of 1665s. Superdome plexi crystals do absolutely make the watch even more special but the prices NOS versions go for now - if you can find one - are eye-watering.
Beautiful.
Great images guys. With regards to the superdomes, did they come with the watch when bought or has anyone replaced a service replacement domed crystal with an NOS tropic 25-39 superdome crystal ?
I started the attached thread a while back and apart from a lovely picture of a bra, I didn't really get any response to the original question.

I am still debating if I should do it or not. I appreciate that it will kill any water resistance that the watch had - but I have no intention of ever going near water in it anyway. As they say, if you want to swim or dive with a watch on, buy a new one. As you can see I have restored the bezel insert to an original mark 3 fat font insert with tritium pearl - superdome next ?

I can only comment on your last question - change it if you want and if what Athur etc says is true then don't go out in the rain and don't sweat.
It does seem if you put on a 30+ year old piece of plastic on a watch you need to treat it with care.
lovely example though! Personally I'd want it waterproof so I could use it as intended. I have a Rolex from 1978 with plexiglass - but had no qualms about having the plexiglass replaced at its last service.

I agree, it does seem an incredible risk, especially as most of the watches that have superdomes like 5513s, 5512s, DRSDs and Great Whites are highly desirable, not to mention expensive and the risk of damage from sweat and humidity along with water damage does seem one hell of a gamble.
Arthur's logic of the vintage look, but with the latest service replacement crystal, which is domed afterall, only not quite as much, does seem a sensible way to go.
I was just interested if anyone had taken the gamble and swopped.
