Incoming Zenith Pilot Type 20 Bronze

    Hi all,

I rarely do incomings these days as I have had so many in and out, the flipping has be OTT the last few years but I have scaled back a bit. Thought I would post this one up for those who may be interested. Lately the purchases have been more conservative from the more risky purchases. Currently the collection is a Daytona, DateJust, Hydro Conquest and a Skywalker X33. This one is back off the beaten track a bit, a bit special, it even says it on the dial! ;) I have the only one in Guernsey (unless someone imported one from a foreign dealer).

I was in my local AD the other day chasing something up and I was looking over their new Zenith 'shop in shop' and was admiring the pilots as usual but have always been put off by the newer 48mm to 60mm sizes due to having smallish wrists (I use to have a Pilot Big Date Special back in 2013), also the cost of the pilot range has gone up steeply! However something new caught my eye this time. The newly ish released Bronze pilot at 45mm. I have small wrists but I can just about pull it off and the size is kind of what its all about anyway being a pilot watch.

On to the details, the dial is large and finished in a lovely matt black with oversized numerals, the crown is large but comfy and functions well with authority when wound or used. The strap is nuback leather with a rubber backing, extremely comfy and fits the aesthetics of the watch well. The main USP is obviously the bronze case. Bronze has be done by the other larger brands and the smaller boutique brands but its still not too main stream, the case will age as oxidation occurs and each one will age differently which is appealing. The bronze gives it a warm vintage feel that i like without it having to vintage, if you know what I mean. The back of the case is titanium to avoid irritation from the bronze, the detailing is a nice touch.

Cant tell you much else as I only picked it up today...

    Wrist shot from the AD

    Nice sleeve for the box

    Thanks for looking

This did surprise me but it looks rather nice.

It is interesting to see that Zenith have gone with the Elite 679 instead of the controversial Calibre 3000 in their steel Extra Special Pilot.

Wow, everything I dislike about watch design all in one watch, at least in that respect it's efficient

Really nice, like that a lot.

I've had my Panerai Bronzo a good while now, and it's really interesting to watch it age, so try not to flip it and will maybe add some interest other watches couldn't.

Like it alot, thanks for sharing

Part of me wants one, (or the marmite Type 20 1903) sincs i love the dial font and overall style of the watch, but its the size thats too far out of my comfort zone.
Problem is if they made it any smaller It would loose that vintage pilot aesthetic, which is what the watch is all about :)

    That's really something! Congrats!

    It's 'extra special'.

I love bronze watches, since they add that super (extra special) patina after a couple of weeks/month. The size is another story....but beeing an aviator watch, it can pass...
    Have fun with the watch.
    I like it very much...
