Same, about £150
I just read this http://wornandwound.com/2014/10/28/w...ch-pay-quartz/
What's your limit? I've never spent more than £150 on a quartz, mostly because above that price I find autos more appealing. I would like a Seiko SDGA001 one day though.
Same, about £150
I dont think i would go no more than £300 - £400 at the very most.
Quartz does not imply any particular limit to me, any more than automatic does. It depends on what the watch is. Good luck finding an IWC Jumbo Ingenieur Quartz, a first generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas Quartz, a Rolex Oysterquartz, or indeed a Grand Seiko SBGV009 or an Omega Aqua Terra Quartz for £150 quid. This idea that 'I'd only spend xxx on a quartz' is something people seem to come out with, but it seems a bit meaningless to me.

It's like saying "Who'd pay more than £50 for a Seiko".
Oh, hang on...
I paid £650 for my SMP a few years ago - but I've also paid a few£ for others
Whatever a Marine Chronometer costs these days.... 2K?
Cheers..

More than I would for a basic cheap mechanical movement, and even more if it had a soul!
I paid £700 for my Longines hydroconquest chrono almost 4 years ago. Still my go to watch. (Well it was until the battery ran out the other week!)
Well, I'm considering paying £250 for one.
I prefer auto & manual wind but have paid a few £££'s for quartz before without question
my Tag 'Tiger Woods' Golf watch and my Wife's Frank Muller being the more expensive
0 for an analogue Quartz.
50 maybe for a g shock if I ever took a notion.
I was seriously considering spending 650GBP on that Quartz Grand Seiko that confusingly resurfaced on SC recently.
Just bought my first, one of Eddie's Prs 40 Nato.
Paid 300 for sh tag sel a few years ago
er... quite a lot...
Not sure I'd pay 10x more for a Halda though... http://www.haldasweden.com/
About as much as it takes to get one of these
I paid about £360 quid for a Seamaster professional in the late 80's ( but got £500 part ex on my auto SMP in 1995, I was well chuffed!
I paid £750 for a B1 back in the days when that's what they went for secondhand. I'd have kept it if it wasn't too big for me.
I've also considered getting an Oysterquartz in the past but the potential maintenance costs put me off.
Does this answer your question?
Nothing wrong with quartz in my opinion, useful in many circumstances. I paid £1k for a Tag many moons ago and its still a great watch, ticking along nicely with no servicing
That SBGX083 photo is mine by the way. :)
I agree with this completely. The unit cost of the movement is largely irrelevant to the pricing of any reasonably decent wrist watch and so it just boils down to whatever bragging rights or kudos you attach to whatever ticks beneath. Is a Grand Seiko Quartz at £2k fitted with a 9F82 presenting any more of a dilemma to a potential purchaser than a PRS-18Q fitted with a Ronda 715Li at £185?

I wouldn't hesitate buying a Grand Seiko antimagnetic quartz, if and when funds permit.
In 2004 I paid £950 for a brand new SMP 2264 from an AD, had 5 very happy years with it and sold it for £950. Worth every penny for the right quartz.
There is quartz watch and QUARTZ watch. At one point quartz watch is all the hype and some cost a lot more than automatic ones, omega comes to mind. One can't judge the cost on the movement or how well it is made. A lot of money may be spent on R&D.
The most expensive QUARTZ watch I own is the omega MC and it is still more expensive than a Speedy of that era.

About 14 years ago I paid £1200 for a Tag Heuer Kirium chrono. At the time I had no idea what quartz or automatic even meant. I still have the watch going strong as my beater.
Going by the general consensus on this thread, im almost embarrassed to say
£700 for an SMP 2264 from an AD 2 years ago. Great watch.

MMMHHH probably the wrong person to ask but the most I have ever paid was just north of £4000 for 1 of 5 Marine Chronometer prototypes ever made, I also have an open offer to but 1 of 10 18K gold Marine Chronometers ever made for £10K and when I get in a position to have the cash I am going to buy it in a heart beat!
Quartz stigma really shouldn't extend to some of the fabulous quartz watches from Swiss and Japanese makers
I'm afraid I'm guilty of paying £2k for a brand new Aerospace Avantage.
However, the Aerospace is my daily watch and superbly built and accurate.
The movement is only one aspect of the watch that i may consider buying. It's also about the asthetics, colour, strap or bracelet & many other things. I wouldnt buy a Ferrari with with Fiat 500 engine and i wouldn't buy a Fiat 500 with a Ferrari engine, its about balance for me (btw i woulnt buy a Ftat full stop :) ). The most i've paid for a Quartz ....
The question for me is: How much would I pay for any watch? Quartz or mechanical, it doesn't matter, it's all about the quality and design. The most I've paid so far for a quartz was £800-ish for a Tuna, but have a budget of about £2500 to spend on a watch on my trip to Tokyo in a month, and will happily buy another quartz if something catches my eye.
If your a true WIS then you should really understand its not and never will be an answer easily answered.
If you like watches as I do then you will appreciate many things that are on offer, quartz is one that I now appreciate more now I have a Grand Seiko to pick up and put on.
Not so long ago I may have asked the same question, not anymore,it's the quality of the whole package and not just a battery inside.
And the quality really is up their with some of the best regardless of that battery.
Of course this is just my opinion, and we all have an opinion, just that some peoples opinions are well err wrong
They can't help it!,and like me will be converted ;-).
This has taken my eye....Breitling Cockpit B50....it's more than just a 'Quartz' in my view, more a professional timepiece produced by an excellent brand but I'm trying not to be drawn into the hype! The retail is eye watering but I'm tempted if I can get the right deal. Sad maybe but passionate about watches and my small collection 'needs' something new! ;-)
Omega AT or SMP.Have happily paid up to £900.I am not bothered if its quartz,Automatic/Hand wound/Solar/Kinetic/ or runs on diesel.
