I am surprised nobody mentions the Royal Oak, so that's for me. Not the offshore, too big and trying too hard!

Maybe the IWC 3707 for me. Clean design and titanium.

The Potuguese has already come up here, but the white gold one has a certain something, if only because of the fetching grey dial.

However a black pre-Daytona is the one true grail for me.

I like this very much... Glasshütte Original Senator Sixties Square Chronograph.

I have this watch and whilst here are many other chronos I would like, there are none that I would take in preference. I have had both black and white dials, hand wind and auto, strap and bracelet: my favourite and the one I have kept is the black dial, hand wind (so fantastically slim) on an alligator strap with deployant.

In fact I am wearing it today, it is probably my most worn watch.

In the true "grail" sense of the word, I suppose I'd ask for a Lange Duograph, but even if I could afford it I don't think I'd want to spend that much money on a watch.

Grail in the sense of a dream watch or affordable

so far I'm pretty happy with this, though the GS chrono is really looking good!

    Has to be the....

Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore - in Rose gold with ceramic bezel - 44mm (2011). I tried this on in London recently and fell in love with it. Nearly there....!

Mines would have to be a 1971 Tudor Monte Carlo! ;-)

On the basis that a grail is unobtainable - I would like the case and dial style of my Sinn 356, but with a new Seiko column wheel movement inside.
For some years I have itched to buy a new Seiko automatic chrono - but don't care for the modern styles. Currently the Orient Star chronos (containing a Seiko calibre) are my preferred choice, but they're just too cold.

In terms of the obtainable, I doubt I'll ever beat this:

However in terms of hypothetical, I'd love a Newman Daytona from 1971 - it'd also be a birth year watch

    Or a Platinum Daytona:

For me it would be a Heuer Verona, the forgotten brother of the Carrera. A couple of mm bigger then it's more well known brother and only produced for two years (1978/9).

Now, is a "grail" an unobtainable goal? Or is that a "holy grail"?

I love my Speedy, would love an IWC 3777 and they're reasonably priced, would love a El Primero tricolor but a little small for me I think.

TAG MicroTourbillonS? And whilst not a chronograph, I am thinking which body parts I would swap for an Opus XIII.

A rose gold IWC portuguese 7 day power reserve. I saw one at a great price but still couldn't afford it...

  21. #171
A little off the beaten track maybe, a little small by modern standards maybe, but I think these are lovely looking watches

Too many to choose from (some great ones in this thread), but I've always liked the old Monaco's and the Portuguese as well.

A Speedy will be my next watch, I think, but it's not quite a grail like the above for me.

A rather rare variation on the 'Seiko 7A38' theme ....

Probably unattainable - and despite it's in extremely bad taste IMO .... gotta have one.

    Fred Force 10 7A38.

Universal Geneve for Cairelli TIPO HA-1, issued in 92 examples to the Italian Air Force (AMI) for astro-navigation. Note split-second, single pusher, 24hr day, 16min chronograph .

  36. #186
    Had several,
Longines Flagship, bought it, flipped it
    Monaco, bought it, flipped it
    Speedie, bought it, flipped it
    Bvlgari, bought it, flipped it
    Blackbird, bought it, flipped it
VC Overseas, bought it, flipped it
AP ROC, bought it, flipped it

Currently on a Daytona, keeping it until the next one, but as it's a Nautilus, it'll be a while

So that leaves, erm, I'm not sure. A Siffert would be nice but probably a bit too far out of my price range. I wouldn't mind a Zenith of some kind, the Striking Tenth looks amazing but I wouldn't be able to get one unless it was half price and on interest free credit
Well, that was from 2011 and the 11630 GMT has gone, while the Zodiac is on loan to Village (when's it coming back, Andy?). No Zeniths yet and I'm not convinced I still want one. Here are four of my current chronos, I'm rather happy with all of them and I also have an Orange Boy Autavia now too. Seeing how this method has worked the last two times on this thread, I'd like one of the first two- or three-sub dial Autavias as my next grail...

I like the Patek, but I think I prefer the Lange 1815 Flyback Chrono. If I had the cash, I'd get one.
