Well I like it :-).

After one of my PRS-18s (they get lots of wrist time, great watches) got lots of scratches due to a missfortune, I had to do something. I decided to overwork the surface myself, with brushed top and polished sides. As the watch was open already (for brushing the rehaut, while I was at it), I thought why not give plongeur hands a go. What do you guys think? (I know, I myself like the original better too :)

Well I like it :-).

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
I am not a fan of the hands but good effort
Gray
I prefer the elegance and simplicity of the original hands
I like it.
I like it!
Yep I like that, nice job.
Nice one - like the polished sides.
Not my cup of tea but I applaud you having the balls to change it into something you like, which is really the only opinion that counts
Cheers

I think I'd have liked the polished case with the original hands. Funny you should post this now as just this week I've been wondering what a polished 18Q case would look like.
Very nice though.
Love the prs-18, but not with those hands. Good work with the polishing though.
I like it with those hands - reminds me of the SHOM.
I love it.
Looks great - nice job!

You have done a very impressive job on the brushing and polishing - looks great.
(I still prefer the original though.)
Thank you for your kind replies!
My problem was, it is hard to source fitting hands for Miyota movements. A little bit more can be found for the DG 2813 movement, which uses the same hand sizes. The hands installed are made for Seiko 7s26 / Eta 2824-2, so I had to drill out the holes to make the hands fit.
Another problem was to find hands with with the correct lume, most hands sold use white C1 lume or similar. The only hands with yellow/green C3 lume I had at hand were the plongeur ones. Lume shot is quite nice:
I am now thinking about installing sword hands as it is my favorite style, when it comes to hands. I know two suppliers for C3 lumed sword hands, but as I have several C1 lumed sets at home, I just ordered this lume kit:
http://storecube.com/watchlume/index...&product_id=51
Its not superluminova (would have cost significantly more), but the seller advertised it as being even brighter than that.
So theoretically I could use any hand set for the mentioned miyota, eta or seiko movements for the PRS-18, if only I relume it and/or refit it if the circumstances require - endless possibilities. :)
What do you think, would you like to see or even recommend sword hands on the PRS-18?

I think it looks great, it changes the watch entirely. And I'd also like to see sword hands.

The case refinish looks great, and the hands look great. Nice lume match as well, like you say.
Well done!
Sword hands definitely worth a look.

Cool job mate.
Looks really good, I like it.
I like that a lot! I've got a PRS 18A with a fair number of bumps and bruises but I actually prefer that look...used, but not abused. Saying that, you did a great job on the case work!
Love it! Funnily enough I had been wondering what the 18 would look like with this mod. I know I will get laughed at for saying this, but it have always felt that the PRS18 has something of the omega SHOM about it. These pics just confirm that I was entirely wrong, but it's still a great looking piece. I think sword hands will look excellent too.
I like it, though I've no idea how you managed to damage it in the first place as I'm a right clumsy git and mine is still pristine after 3 years or so regular wear
Nice job on the case work and I'm a sucker for the plongeur hands looks great to me.
Thank you for your comments and opinions! I got some news: First of all, the lume kit arrived.
The quality of the pigment is very good, the binder is a bit disappointing imho, but anyway (I assume that should be discussed in the modding section). So I have been able to relume watch hands with matching lume. Here you see me practicing:
Again I had to adjust the hands (made for Seiko 7s26) for the different hand hole sizes of the Miyota movement (second hand had to be squeezed a bit, minute hand broadened significantly, hour hand broadened a bit). I did not use sword hands, but a resemblant style. The result for now:

I love the plongeur hands but nit so much this second set.
Loving the sword hands and would love to see a regular daylight shot of it.

Glad you like it. Here the requested daylight shots:
Best, JMH

I owned a PRS18Q and found it to be excellent as a daily wearer.
Didn't think it could be improved but I do like your final shot. Sword hands are a favourite of mine.
That one is a winner. Very good.

Looks brilliant with the sword hands (but then the MOD dial always would). Where did you get them from?
Really liking the mod,s polished case looks really good.
I quite like the white only sword hands for some reason. look's more 'tooly'.
I thought all the different sets of hands looked quite good actually! What you ended up with though, is fantastic.
