I think I may have mentioned this on T-Z before, but a few years ago on Weekend Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4, Jenni Murray was doing a piece about street prostitutes in Edinburgh.
Part of the piece concerned an industrial estate where the girls had worked and the police turned something of a blind eye. The site had since been purchased by property developers who were building prestige housing, and the girls were being pressured into moving elsewhere.
Jenni summarised (and I paraphrase, as it was a while ago). "When this was an industrial estate the girls could work with a minimum of harrassment, but they are no longer welcome now it's an up and coming location".
'Always has been, Jenni' were my thoughts.

Regarding my own occupation, I wanted to be a jockey or a meat porter, but after a spell as Professor of Difficult Sums at Staveley Uni near Chesterfield, I spent the last few years until retirement as a landscape gardener on a sewerage farm, (No, Mr V, this is not the euphemism you might think it is).
