"I looked with pity not untinged with scorn upon these trivial-minded passers-by"
A great actor who will be missed by many. R.I.P
Very sad, star of one of my all time favourite films " Of course it hurts, the trick is not minding it hurts".
Given his lifestyle reaching the age of 81 was no mean feat, watched him a few weeks ago in Thomas Becket, RIP.
Thats news that has really saddened me.
A great actor, and one who's performances have truly entertained me.
RIP
My mum worked for him a long time ago as nanny to his kids.
Top bloke by all accounts.
She's got some interesting stories that get told out of the blue after a gin and tonic or two.
The finest man that ever breathed does so no more .............. how sad. RIP
One of the greatest actors.
Test in peace.
Great actor and last of the true hell raisers.
Don't see them like that anymore.
Very sad news. I really liked him and his work.
Just by chance I sat down to watch the 218 minutes of Lawrence of Arabia this afternoon, surfaced to find that he his death had been announced. He'll always be remembered for that brilliant portrayal as El Aurance.

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations
Nominated eight times for best actor Oscar....should have got it..RIP
A legend in his own life time, RIP sir.
I saw him in Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell when he revived the role in 1999 at the Old Vic. Amazing performance.
Best wishes,
Bob
He was fantastic in Man of La Mancha! RIP to one of my favorite fringe lunatic thespians!!
Goodbye Alan Swan. RIP.
Another old school character gone. They don't make them like that any more. Rip Peter
Very very sad. RIP Peter.
A lovely story about him. He went on the piss one day with a mate, they then decided to see a play. Shortly after curtain-up, O'Toole turns to his companion and says, "you'll like this next bit, this is where I come on”.

Thats the last of the greats then. O`Toole, Burton, Harris all gone. RIP.
Top actor. I've been slowly persuading my wife (who's from Tatarstan in Russia and not so culturally literate when it comes to films) to watch Lawrence with me. Now I shall force the issue!
RIP. One of the greats!

I saw the title of this thread and though "Please don't let him have died".
A great actor and a real shame that he's gone.
Ever heard the story about him taking Michael Caine out on the piss???
He went out boozing with Michael Caine when he was O'Toole's understudy for 'The Long And The Short And The Tall' at the Royal Court Theatre in 1959. The last thing Michael Caine remembered was eating egg and chips, before waking up in a strange flat with a headache. "What time is it?" he inquired. "Never mind what time it is," said O'Toole. "What f***ing day is it?" Two days had passed and they were due on stage in three hours.
Just read he was tea total for the last 17 yrs
