I'm forced to take one, then see what others I can pick up.

The question was about women, right?

  2. #52
Just the 1, usually a G-Shock or similar. I worry about it being stolen from the hotel room (hotel cleaners know a good opportunity when they see one...) and I don't like wearing a watch at the beach, as the heat makes them uncomfortable for me. I'd also be paranoid of sand marks.

A holiday is a time to chill out and not worry about the things you do in normal life, so a simple watch that I don't have to worry about is always my choice.

Last time took two. Spent the whole time wearing just one; Speedbird GMT.

Next time depends on the type of holiday tbh. Probably just one.

I've had a Speed Sonic Lobster on my WTB for ages. Is yours on a Bond Street NATO?

When here, I take a PRS-18Q for the lochs and a Suunto Vector for the mountains.

I've come to realize that I can survive on vacation with one watch and a zip lock baggie full of straps for variety. Lately I've been taking just the 14060M. Next time out I may take along the PRS-18 as well for diving, as diving in a $4000 watch just seems a little cavalier.

Interesting concept, however I use it for every travel (1-2 per week depends on destination) - find GMT extremly usefull and I'm not crew member.

3 watches: GMT, diver (always check if I have swimingpool in hotel) and Garmin for running.

My thoughts exactly. Its a useful function. Daft to confine it to a specific profession...

I took two... But, seeing my brother in law diving about in his Rolex sub made me realise that my collection is missing a modern sports watch... Just not a fan clunky bezeled divers though... Nice to have a hunt on though!

  12. #62
Just the one for me. My SD 16600 does the job nicely!

For a week somewhere 'civilised'; 4 or 5 depending on whether they'll fit in the travel case :)

Always the Sea-Dweller which I will wear most days, I only put something with strap on in the evening. Usually PAM 190, Reverso, a Heuer chrono of some sort and a 'wildcard' :)

However, Thailand in November; just my Fifty Fathoms which will NOT leave my wrist.

two usually, one of which if on holiday will typically be the JLC Navy Seal Alarm on rubber and then another more dressy evening option. Always tough to chose though!

Just 1 - a diver. Pool, beech, hot tub, bbq its all good. These days a Seiko, but when I had one a sub. Wouldn't take more than one unless I knew there would be somewhere secure to keep it.

One or two. Any more than that and I can't stop myself worrying that room service will be helping themselves while we're out!
Two is plenty for me - something rugged and something dressy - and always cheap. I haven't taken a watch worth over £200 on holiday in ages.

That's a fair point, actually. We're staying in Bea's apartment so unless her parents are intent on making a fast buck my watches should be pretty safe!

That said, most hotel bedrooms have a safe these days, don't they?

I'd just bring one (picked the wrong poll option by mistake) - I'd only bring 2 if I'm travelling with work.

Previously 2 as I'm not going to swim/beach with something too nice and a g-shock looks rubbish at the dinner table.

This year the MM600 is covering all bases.

I only take one, usually my Rolex explorer 1 provided I`m going somewhere civilised.

Taking more increases the security risk and it's not necessary. I like to forget about watches (and other stuff) on holiday, that's part of the attraction of having a break.

I`ve taken 2 in years gone by but now I don`t see the point. A couple of years back I visited Kenya and took only a slightly scruffy Seiko with me; it made me realise how unimportant a watch is in the context of a holiday.

2 For me, however whilst on holiday wished i had taken more. Also kept looking in the jewellers window looking for that watch that I really would have liked to buy, never found it and the week is over and I am back home where I can swap watches as many times a day as I wish. Only problem is I am now taking 2 to work with me.

Why is there no option in the poll for "I don't go on holiday, I spend the money on watches instead"?

Usually 3, counting my Garmin 910XT as one, a diver and an evening watch (although quite often the Seadweller ticks all the boxes )

Usually one, sometimes two. just a doxa last time.

Going away at the end of the month, already stressing about what watch to take! ( might have to buy a new holiday watch! )

    Only one TBH.

Usually a G shock which does all the timezones and is waterproof enough.

Leave the expensive stuff @ home!

    Lol, thank you Tony
The safe is not with me, but the watches are being transported very securely, and most definitely will remain in immaculate condition

I`m amazed how many folks take more than one watch on holiday.

Without wishing to sound like Jonah, what would happen if they got stolen from the hotel room? Convincing travel insurers that the theft was genuine would not be easy (ie impossible) and I`m not sure how many folks would be covered by other insurance.

The vast majority of the public wouldn`t dream of taking more than 1 watch on holiday and the insurance companies would struggle to believe that anyone would take a few high-value ones with them.

Frankly, it isn`t worth the risk. Stick to one and keep it with you at all times.

On my 4 night trip to France last week I took 5 watches*...:

    '72 1680 red sub
    Omega seamaster quartz
Franck Muller casablanca 8885 c cc dt
    Panerai Luminor 177
    '86 '666 SD

This was more to do with the fact, that they were in my watch roll (1 being worn) and I don't have a safe yet and I couldn't decide where to hide them. Only wore the SD in the daytime and Sub in the evenings.

Gshock and steinhart were left at home.

Wife took 2 rolex and one cartier.

it looks a bit insane, now I've written it out :/

That, generally-speaking, is a very sensible post.
It fails, however, to take into account the minority of watch-obsessed types who frequent forums like this one for whom one watch will simply never do!
It also misses that, as expressed frequently enough (and sometimes a little vulgarly perhaps) by some people in places like this, the loss of an expensive item such as a luxury watch wouldn't cause as much distress as it would to the majority of people.
For some, losing their seamaster "beater" would be a (comparatively) minor concern - or that's what they would assert at any rate.

I see where youre coming from with the insurance company comment - I wonder if anyone has had any experience of losing several expensive watches abroad?

    Over 7 watches for a week's holiday!?!

I know this is a watch forum, but three people each said they would take over seven watches on a 1-week holiday!

I don't know whether to be impressed or amazed

I always take one. Which one depends on where I'm going.

  47. #97
For a holiday - just 1, diver or gshock.
    For a work trip - just 1, smart-ish watch.

I can't grasp the idea that I'd need the faff of packing any more, being worried as I go through airport security, making sure I store them in the hotel safe ...
