Well done, Paul! I'd been waiting for this, and will have a good look during the week.
Good man.

Well, not long to go now and like many others, I've been waiting for our Fantasy League website to open for the 2013 season. Unfortunately ....
http://fantasyf1game.net/content/sad-day
So I'm trawling through the other fantasy sites, already worried that these might close too. If not immediately, mid-season. Which is worse. I did look at setting up my own server but it costs $ for the software and only makes any sense if you can recoup that from lots of advertising or charging. Plus I, and we, have little time now.Originally Posted by fantasyf1game

Plus, you can tell it's authored by a German
All the options you need. All sorts of in-season messing permitted. You'll need a week to get yourself sorted, so :
1. Go to http://www.pff1.net/en and register
You will get your licence :
:-)
2. Create a team or teams
You can read the instructions on the site, but you wont, so here is an excerpt :
Choose a good icon for your team car !Team Management:
A registered competitor may create up to 7 teams and 3 leagues (public or private).
The budget per team is 80 Mio at the beginning of the season, after each race every team gets additional 2 Mio. The costs of manager, drivers, chassis, engine and tyres vary after each Grand Prix. The component prices rise or fall according to their performance at the weekend.
A team consists of 1 manager, 3 drivers (driver no. 3 can be selected from the test- or substitute driver pool), 1 chassis, 1 engine, 1 set of tyres. Prior to the first race a team can be changed unlimited. Usually a team can be modified till 3 hours before the Qualifying of a race weekend (for the valid database closing times, look at the calendar page).
A team owner is not able to have more than 2 teams consisting of 'identical' components. Differences in selected components 'Driver 3' and 'Secrecy', as well as in guessed Qualifying positions or fastest race lap time won't be considered. The exchange just of 'Driver 1' and 'Driver 2' among each other doesn't put things right. This is also effective for the components 'Chassis' and 'Engine'.
3 changes are for free before every race, each further change causes 5 minus points. One change is a transfer of one team component. The point loss will be calculated after the following race. Guessing the Qualifying positions of the drivers is unlimited possible and does not lead to minus points.
Exception: After an extraordinary adjustment of component costs (obligatory after race 3, optional after race 7), 5 changes will be for free just before the following race.
Remark: Amateurs are only able to do changes for free (no minus points are possible).
During a race weekend the database will be closed and it opens after the points are calculated. While the database is closed no changes can be made.
3. Enter ONE team in the league Formula TZ-UK :
Password is speedbird
4. Fret over your choices for the next week. Unlike the previous league, you CAN make changes, in fact, probably should, during the season but it costs money

Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
Ouch, it's painful to spend that much of the budget on a team manger :)
Count me in- good one
Brilliant Paul, thanks for this! Team done, waiting for the lights
Bump for this, only four teams registered thus far. Skates on, gents!
Done. Eventually
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
Was going to bump this as it fell off the front page, but I see it's popped back up
Just to add then, only 4 days to go but don't leave it that late - likely the server will get busy as the deadline approaches, and you'll wish you had more time to tweak ! Plus the new interface and rules takes a bit of familiarisation.
We had over 50 teams in 2012. You can remind yourself of your performance, if that's the right word, here.
Paul
I've signed up. That RRA makes picking your team pretty tough!
Must admit, with the budget my lot are pretty low rent all round! Guess it'll make the season fun upgrading though.
Bring it on!
Options or Primes Options or Primes ... I can't decide !
If I understand the rules, you earn ( as well as spend ) money each race, and you can use the cash for upgrades. So there should be some strategy involved during the season. Unlike last year where after only a few races, I could sit back safe in the knowledge that I'd blown it
Paul
Blooming difficult to select a team, with the restrictions hopefully I will have worked something out by the end of the day.
Well if it was possible to be more in the dark than someone already in the dark, without a match, sporting a blindfold, at night, in a cave, I'd be that person.
9 teams now, just 3 days to go. Expecting great things from a nation steeped in motor-sport heritage and from a forum of gentlemanly yet slightly competitive characters
( Entries from non British Racing Green nations, the hopelessly uncompetitive, and the easily amused also welcomed - the website will pick your team for you if you let it )
Paul
C'mon boys, we had around 50 teams last year!
Entered in the hope that it may inspire me to watch a few more races this season. Why did Sky have to buy the rights!?!?
Picking a team was harder then last year.
Thanks Paul for sorting out a league again.
I'm in too! Really tough with that budget but should make for interesting veining throughout the season.
12 teams now in the league...come on guys more teams will make it more interesting.
Looking forward to this now
Anyone prepared to talk tactics? Reading the scoring, you could get an absolute shed load of points by having Vettel, if he does pole/win/fastest lap, which isn't unknown. You have to compromise just about everything else to have him though, so it's definitely all your eggs in one basket. Even having Hulkenberg, who I suspect might have a rather good year, puts a real strain on all the other choices.
I ended up with a real mosh mash, none of which I'd have originally chosen.
Most of my coin went on Toro Rosso gear!
2 Days left to join the 2013 Bear Pit, I mean, the esteemed 2013 TZ-UK Fantasy Formula 1 :-)
Got 13 hopefuls lined up now. Don't leave it to the last minute. There's reputation and honour at stake !
Registering takes a minute or two, see above, then choose a team. You can let the website choose for you if you prefer, or allow it to suggest "improvements" to your own choices.
To get you in the mood :

15 now ! Still a couple of dozen from last year holding out. Come on gents, get busy !
On tactics ... I think this ( from the instructions above ) must be important :
I'm not sure what happens if your original chosen components increase in price, taking you over the budget limit. I assume you still get to keep them. Which means it would be better to "lock in" any suspiciously low prices now. Of course, I'm not saying which ones I believe are the current bargains . The league is set up so that changes in your team are invisible to others - we can't see what shuffling you do - so there should be lots of opportunity to swap out poor performers during the season. Sounds like my old boss !The costs of manager, drivers, chassis, engine and tyres vary after each Grand Prix. The component prices rise or fall according to their performance at the weekend.
Paul
Joined, that was harder than last year.
No idea what I'm doing (again), hey ho.
Cheers,
The PFF1 database will be closed prior to the next race at 16.03.2013 04:00:00 (Server time GMT+1,00).
Please check, if you already have created all of your teams.
Don't forget your bonus teams for the Cup, the Champions-, Professional or Rookie league.
Please don't forget to update your teams (prior to race 1, you are able to change your teams unlimited).
Kind Regards
Maverick

After being rather glad last years league was cancelled, as it hid my ineptitude, I'm back for more punishment.
Didn't read the scoring 'rules' so it's a 'hit and hope' attempt from me. Keep clicking until it's under budget.
Be interesting to see how it all pans out.
I did read Ian's F1 thread but it all goes over my head these days. I may have stood a slight chance back in the Eighties.
I'm a bit worried a few of you boys have managed to leave cash in the bank! What's going on there?
Looks like some serious thought was put into it
Gentlemen, start your engines
Ian
Just joined this and owing to my complete lack of knowledge about the sport - kind of lost interest when they stopped having yellow cars with the cool noses - you can be sure that there is now some serious competition for last place!
Bring it on
New member here joining both to the forum and TZ-UK F1 league.
cheers,

At last, we have a full grid !
2 hours left if anyone else wants to join

The results are up !
Any tips on weighting your budget between drivers/chassis/engine?
I went heavily towards drivers only last year and realised quickly that you had to have a more even spread. It was too late as you couldn't change your team.
I went for a more even spread this year and that isn't working!!!
Looks like you have to have something/someone in the top ten.
There was a 'window' between qualifying and the race when I could click on your names and see your teams.
Is there an option to do this between races? Not looking to copy anyone but would be helpful to see where your points came from.
Cheers
Ian
Just realised my 'icon' is Lorenzo Bandini. I only picked it on looks and didn't realise they were related to drivers.
The documentary "Grand Prix - The Killer Years" was on late last night. Remember Lorenzo being mentioned, among the many, many deaths

I am taking out my "Racing drivers handbook of explanations"...if only Nico's Mercedes would have lasted to the chequered flag my result would have been much better. Well, every point is important and the season is long...
@Ian (Emeister)
You can see other members teams by doing it the hard way. Take the position index of a team and search it manually from the World Championship rankings. There you can click the team owner and team.
cheers,
Keijo
Bit of a late starter, I've only just signed up...
Still, plenty of potential to improve upon my current position of last in the league
Mid-table for me, happy enough start!
Me too. Especially as I have no idea how the points are worked out and attributed.
Not a great start, hopefully a few tweeks this week will help me go up the table.
Too early to tell who has chosen well I suspect. I think Force India ( that I didn't pick ... ) may turn out to be a good value pick from the constructors, and Bottas ( whom I also ignored ) from the drivers.
Our current leader, "Scarface_1", is a friend of mine. I dragged him into the league as repayment for him, several years ago, dragging me into this watch appreciation thing. As it happens, he is a huge watch collector and a serious F1 aficionado ( co-founder of GPGuide ). Of course, when I bullied invited him in, I didn't expect him to beat me
Paul
Just did a chancy wee tweak, swapped Brawn for Whitmarsh. Fingers crossed LOL.
The Hulk was my first choice of driver when I saw the price list I don't know why but opted for Di Resta instead, in hindsight it was a good move.
6th is a good start, only just made it in on time.
Good grief this is more complex than last year!
Not too unhappy with 10th (but must do better).
Made some changes - don't know if they'll work. Anyone worked out the scoring/money system yet?
Cheers,
Cut & Paste of the relevant bits. Good bedtime reading.
Component Costs:
General:
After each race the costs of the components (Manager, driver, chassis, engine and tyres) will be recalculated based on the obtained total points. The first modification because of the scores will be realized after race 3.
Extraordinary adjustment of component costs:
After the race 3 of a season an obligatory extraordinary adjustment of component costs will be executed. This regulation is valid for the components Manager, Driver 1 and 2m Chassis and Engine (not for Driver 3 and Tyres).
PPF1 is going to adjust the component costs which do not correspond to their performance level. The prices can be increased or decreased, depending on a component is undervalued or overvalued.
If necessary, an optional extraordinary adjustment of component costs will be executed after race 7 (only valid for Driver 1 and 2, Chassis and Engine components).
The component costs will be adjusted without a modification of the total team budget values. Only the cash balance of the teams will be altered. This can lead to a negative cash balance.
The team owners should change their teams to get a cash balance >=0. The negative cash balance of teams will be cleared automatically by team changes performed by PFF1.net after the database is closed during the race weekend.
After an extraordinary adjustment of component costs, 5 team changes will be for free only prior to the following race.
Manager:
The costs only depend on the obtained points. Two managers cannot have the same price.
The minimum value of a manager is 3 Mio.
Driver 1 and 2:
A retirement will cause a price loss of 1 Mio. (minimum value of driver 1 and 2: 5 Mio.)
The winning driver will increase its price by 1 Mio (valid right from race 1).
After race 3 the prices depend on the scored points, different drivers can have the same price.
107% Rule: The value of a driver is decreased by 1 Mio, if he may not take part in a Formula 1 Grand Prix because of the 107% rule (unless the costs are higher than the minimum value). PFF1 awards points for correctly guessed Qualifying positions also for drivers finished outside the 107% time in Qualifying.
Driver 3:
The costs only depend on the obtained points. The minimum value of a driver 3 is 1 Mio., the maximum value is 4 Mio.
Chassis and Engine:
If both cars of a team retire, engine and chassis will loss 1 Mio. A finish of a team at position 1 and 2 will cause an increase of the price of engine and chassis by 1 Mio (valid right from race 1).
After race 3 the prices will depend on the scored points, different engines and chassis can have the same price.
The minimum value of a chassis and motor is 5 Mio.
107% Rule: The value of a chassis and an engine is decreased by 1 Mio, if both cars of a team may not take part in a Formula 1 Grand Prix because of the 107% rule (unless the costs are higher than the minimum value).
Tyres:
The price of the tyres only depends on the obtained points, different tyre suppliers or groups can have the same price.
If 2 different tyre suppliers or groups are available, both initial values are at 4 Mio. After race 3 the points difference must be greater than or equal to 20 in order that the values are changed to 5 and 3 Mio. The points difference has to be less than or equal to 5 in order that both values are changed back to 4 Mio.
Remark: If only 1 tyre supplier is active in Formula 1, it will be divided into 2 groups. The Formula 1 Teams will be assigned alternately at the beginning of a season to one of the tyres groups according to the last Years Formula 1 Constructor standings and the FIA entry list.
In Formula 1 the Prime and Option tyre must be used at least once during a race. The Prime and Option tyre must be chosen at least 5 times during a PFF1 season.
If a team owner does not observe the rule, a component change will be made by the system in the last 5 races. Inactive teams will be adjusted automatically in the last 5 races after the database closing time.
