Watch spotting on telly - Ever made you buy a watch?

Watching season 6 of Dexter on DVD, and noticed Batista wears a Hamilton Ventura.

    Now I really want one.

Seems unbelievably stupid to decide I want something because a fictional character on a TV show has one, so I thought I'd ask if any of you have similar experiences.

Plus One, but not with the black dial. Still, really nice watch for the cash.

In the Rockford Files James Garner wore a Heuer Carerra:

Yep, I really like/d the Rockford files and was always interested in the watch he wore. Ok, this is the re-edition but a stunning watch. The only thing stoping me buying one is the fact that they're quite small by modern standards at 36mm (I have 2 military Seiko chronos at this size and they are small!)

DiCaprio's Breitling Chrono Avenger in Blood Diamond. I already owned the watch but the movie made me wear it more...

And Man vs Wild made me dream of an Emergency (which I presently own, the Avenger is sadly gone....)

    You are not alone!

Watching the film Ronin last night and spotted Robert De Niro wearing a Hanhart. Couldn't make out the model but never the less......Cool!

As a kid I watched "The Gemini Man" where the guy could become invisible by pressing a button on his digital watch. I thought this was the most fantastic thing ever, and made (already cool) digital watches the ultimate dream gadget for me.

In my late teens/early 20's, seeing Tiff Needell wearing a Navi, and Senna wearing a TAG made me want those.

    Fracture - Ryan Gosling

I've always wanted an IWC Portuguese, and although I'm still saving for one, this film really cemented my love of this watch!

Pronounced Lonin of course, no Rs in Japanese, tho they have Ls and so does English so where the hell has this R come from? And the noodles you all like are Lamen not Ramen.

James Martin often wears a Green Sub LV.
I often try to spot the guest chefs' watches too.

I imagine the more famous ones would get the odd freebie due to the close ups of their hands when cooking

When I was thinking of getting a Rolex Submariner, I saw Jack Bauer wearing one in the first series of 24 and that made up my mind

Watching The Apprentice last year, one of the more obnoxious contestants was wearing an Omega orange PO that actually put me off wearing mine for a while!

I was watching the film 'One of Our Aircraft Is Missing' the other day, and while timing the bombing runs they kept showing one of these... Now I wouldn't mind one for my bombing runs into the office!

Anyone know what the massive square shaped article that Heston Blumenthal has been seen sporting regularly is?

  31. #31
posted this the other day, but heres a pic of James Cracknell wearing a speedy 125 on sunday brunch

I've wanted one for a long time, but i thought it nice to see a 'celeb' wearing a fairly obscure non-endorsement watch

I was at the cinema a few years ago and saw one of those funny orange ads where they remind you to switch off your phone.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsBDUe4UPd0

Rob Lowe was in it and I liked the watch he was wearing, which after investigation when I got home, turned out to be a Panerai and why I own two of them today.

Saw both of those and both guys were not attractive advocates, like Andi Peters, but I think the watches still shone through and for me thats the real test, not how it looks on a star.

Can't say I have - the main culprits for making me buy watches are the members of this forum! Somehow I now have a Breitling, which I wouldn't have projected when I joined in March (after lurking for some time) .... so, unfortunately can't blame the telly ....

Agreed. We stumbled across John Frankenheimer and the whole crew filming some car chase scenes for Ronin on the Bir-Hakim bridge in paris many years ago. The forward facing mobile cameras tracking the action were mounted on Porsches with the bonnet removed! What was filmed seemed to be true to the way it looked on screen- i.e. they didn't speed it up afterwards.

Seeing Liam Neeson wearing the DSSD in Unknown sadly made me go out and purchase a Deepsea! I'm not easily persuaded, honestly! Found it a little too bulky so now more than happy with my 14060m & 16710 instead!
