Have to say that you have had a right result , nice one .

I've been to-ing and fro-ing about buying a Speedy for about a year or so. Each time I build up some sort of watch fund, I make a shortlist of watches to buy and the Speedy is always on it. Up until now, I've made some other choices, but yesterday, I caved in and got one.
I visited an AD in Chester, with a view to comparing the Standard moon watch (hesalite) with the Sapphire Sandwich version. Of course (and as usual), they did not have both. This time, they had only the sapphire version.
I admit it...having seen the hesalite version in the past, I prefer the sapphire crystal and see-through caseback, even if it has less authenticity than the real mccoy.
Anyway, whilst we were arm-wrestling about the discount, the guy mentioned that he had a limited edition version that he could do a good deal on....I'm always interested in a deal, so I asked him to show it....
The watch he showed me was the 50th Anniversary Limited Edition - from 2007... New Old Stock at its finest. Basically, this one has a different movement (a coaxial, column wheel chronometer), with an enamel dial and sapphire front and back. The case is 42mm and rated to 100m WR.
Side by side, I preferred the LE, due to the 'blackness' of the dial, which made the regular 3573.50 dial a bit grey by comparison. Also, the unusual movement was intriguing - even though I didn't know enough about it at that stage.
Of course, it then came down to the price. I was a bit surprised that he still had a 2007 LE in stock, and clearly, it had been on display and showed a couple of very minor marks on the case. He offered me the watch at list less 45%, which made the gap between it and the 3573 relatively small, but still significant.
As a deal closer, the guy showed me the packaging for the LE. I know it is largely superficial, but honestly, it blew me away and convinced me to go for the LE. I persuaded him to throw in a free service for the watch, given the fact that it has been in stock for some time.
So, there it is. I now have a Speedy in my collection, and not before time.
When I got home, I did a bit more research...(I really ought to do the research before I buy... ):
Limited edition of 1957, launched in 2007, this LE contains the 3201 movement...
Caliber: Omega 3201
Hand-winding chronograph movement with column wheel mechanism and Co-Axial Escapement for greater precision stability and durability. Free sprung balance, with hour, minute and small seconds hands, central chronograph hand. White rhodium-plated movement with special wave decoration, circular-graining and gold-plated engraving.
Power reserve: 55 hours
As far as I can tell, this is basically a 3313 (coaxial chronometer automatic movement) without the rotor...
Another unusual feature is the fact that the limited edition numbering is on the dial, rather than the caseback.
Looking at the prices on Chrono24, I reckon I got a bit of a massive bargain with this, and I could easily sell at a profit (not that I am planning to do that). However, I have absolutely annihilated my watch fund and will need to sell a couple...
Here's a few pictures. :)
The outer box, which looks pretty ordinary...
....until you see it compared to the watch, when suddenly, the box is massive...
Opening the outer box, you see the first glimpse of the inner wooden box, with a lovely inlaid? Speedmaster logo..
Inside the rather large box, the watch is revealed...
And, underneath the watch in a second tray containing a rather special tool kit, including spring bar tool, screwdrivers, spare spring-bars and a black alligator strap and steel deployant.
Taking that '1957' branding to extremes..
These little boxes contain spare tips for the springbar tool, screwdrivers and spare spring bars for both straps.
In addition to this, the packaging contains a Speedmaster book, a toolkit guide, cleaning cloth, a leather wallet and certificate of authenticity.
On to the watch itself...
And a couple of movement shots...
Have to say that you have had a right result , nice one .

Very nice, I am getting more of a Speedy itch now!
Really nice catch there! I like the additional kit that comes with it as well.
Congratulation very nice new entry.......love the watch and the movement....right pick.....happy you had a good deal as well.....
Very nice, I love the tool kit it comes with. Not seen that before.
That looks really special! Congratulations.
Wow, never seen that package before, very nice, wear that Speedy it in good health!

Well done, that's a really special catch.
Personally also prefer sapphire.
Yes, I guess that's a keeper.
That packaging certainly puts the bog standard Omega red box to shame.
I really really want to love that movement, as its nice to see something different in a moonie, but I cant help thinking it looks like it has a few screws missing.
very nice, which agent did you buy it from?
I don't like repeating myself so I am going to have to say that looks rubbish.
No. That felt wrong. So let me repeat myself- that really is a splendid piece. I notice there seem to be a few more pictures over here, particularly of the dial. I really, really like it.

Congrats, that's a beauty. I'm a sucker for the extras too, so make a point of using them, especially the strap and deployant. Understated elegance from the black alligator:
That really is rather lovely. The watch is splendid, and the attention to detail in the accompanying box set is phenomenal.
I am officially jealous! 8)
What a beauty - congratulations!
Looks very 8) on the strap as well as the bracelet :) huge discount too, you must be chuffed!
That is the ultimate Speedy IMO. A beauty and a superb deal by the sounds of it.
Thanks for the positive feedback. This one is definitely one of my better choices. :)
A lot of people would say the ultimate Speedy is the classic hesalite version. I would not argue with that at all. For me, however, this LE is indeed the ultimate version. :)Originally Posted by ASW1
Congratulations, not just on getting the Speedy, but on a great choice and on a good discount :)
Thats really really nice. Which dealer was it? I was in Chester today myself but gun shopping instead of watch shopping.
I really fancy a speedy pro, I currently have a reduced panda but thinking of selling it and building a pro pot.
May I ask how much you managed to negotiate both pros down to?
That really looks the business - congrats

That's a spectacular package! The icing on the cake. Love it.
Great buy, I don't hold that the Speedie Pro is a must have for WIS' but that is lovely. :)Originally Posted by downer

If you dont mind me asking, how much did that set you back? You dont have to answer that if you dont want to. I am in the market for a new Speedy and absolutely love that
Wow, what a great find! Wish something like that would happen to me! Well done
A fantastic watch but what awesome packaging. Certainly makes the watch seem all the more special. ...puts Rolex generic packaging to shame
Congrats that is a superb piece of kit. Watch ain't bad either. :D

Looks like you got yourself a really good deal! Congrats. You can't beat a bit of a NOS bargain.
The case it comes with is very impressive, it dwarfs the watch.
My favourite chrono, I loved mine whilst I had it.
What a score! I never seem to have such luck!
Cracking deal and you're 100% right, the box + kit is suberb... it is what I'd call a keeper... (if there is such a thing...)
I presume you'll be changing your username to upper now ? No way you can be a downer :-)
Nice watch, I havnt seen the tool kit before.
Congratulations on a lovely watch. I know Omega have been criticized over some of their limited edition Speedmasters, but this one is a bit special. I saw it a few years ago and would have been very tempted if I had the funds at the time.
Stunning. :drunken:
I suppose I've got seven years to save up for the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary model! 8)
Hi, I tried to PM you but couldn't. I was going to ask what you paid for this as I have one that I'm putting up for sale soon - but with all of the 50th Ann add-ons that were sometimes issued; pen, mints, badges, patches, jacket, press pack, etc.
Any chance you could PM me?
Cheers!
Didn't see this thread earlier. Lovely watch! Congratulations.
That is a gorgeous looking sppedy, my wife has just brought me the original moonwatch for my biothday. I think when I get backk from Afghan I am going to look at it and most likely flip it for a limited edition, as it looks so pretty.
Gorgeous - congratulations mate
Lovely watch and great 'kit'...nice one :)
Fantastic watch and good story. Seems we are all envious.
I'd really love a Speedie. A Grail, considering Grails by definition are watches you can never find.
However, I'd love one of these even more:
Congratulations on a gorgeous watch, and welcome to the speedy club!
Very nice mate proper set with the box I think I will after get a speedy again
