Forget about the asking price and residuals, let's not discuss whether it's a fake and why would anyone do this, why would someone buy it etc etc etc etc.
Simple question:
Do you like it? Could the arguably most iconic diver change most people's take on cali dials?
Personally I like cali dials in general, so I think it looks fine. What say you?

Not averse to Cali dials on the right watch, but that looks daft to me.
And the price is ridiculous
I don't like it.
Cali dial = vomit
Exactly what he said! :shock:Originally Posted by Bloobird

But in my opinion, that one looks wrong.
We of course should all be open to new experiences and ideas, broadening our horizons and pushing boundries, but I dont like that.
No,
It nearly works.... Then my eye gets to the XI
I think it looks awful.
It's just a matter of time...
Mixing roman and "regular" numbers is a BIG no no!

Hideous looking so No.
It´s a change from the thirteen a dozen and I like the historic angle a lot.
Loose the maketing blurp on the dial and we have a modern version of the 3646 :bounce:
Me neither, I simply haven't found one yet..... this certainly isn't one! :lol:Originally Posted by Bloobird

But I need some clarification......is the Cali dial any dial with roman numerals? Or the shitty way in which they have mixed them with standard numbers on this eye-sore?? :tard:
A cali dial is one with both roman & arabic numbers. Usually the former on the upper part and the latter on the lower part.Originally Posted by nutjob1234

I do not enjoy the California dial, I have to say :?
I think it's fab. Love it, would wear it in a heartbeat, as long as I had a promise from everyone that I know never to ask why the "dial was all funny looking".)
I think it's great. Is it PVD also? So cool. (Will now go and follow the links, and faint at the price.)
Ha, ha, shit - I'd wear this, too!
And this! Ha, you can't buy taste, can you?!
Not for me, but at least it's different to the herd.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

Since the exception confirms the rule that the contemporary Rolex sub is no tool, this dial offers sevral extras over the ordinairy one.
It just needs cleaning up the marketing clutter to look a 8) modern homage to the Rólex version of the 3646.

Why don't they just make their own watches? Customising Rolex appeals to the same crowd as Mansour body kits on Bentleys, IMO, but while making a car from scratch is pretty tough there's no thicket of regulations around watches. Think of the 7750 as a crate motor and go from there; plenty do, after all. I like the sports watch, PVD, interesting dial thing, but I'd rather get it from Steinhart for sensible money than spunk $18k on a ruined Sub.
No, can't be doing with that all. Sorry.

Not for me. I'm not against Cali dials per se but not on the classic sub.
Edited for stupidity.
Interesting but does not float my boat.
So on a watch that bar the rule confirming the exception does not even ever get wet it is ok.Originally Posted by Optimum

About the diver point there ´s that original Rolex diver aspect: The ´cali´ sample dial wás fitted to the Rolex 3646s supplied to the Geman SS Kampfschwimmer.
So it actually has a solid historical provenance :!: and the most accurate name for the dial would be the kampschwimmer.
Now, one can líke it or not, but the sample design dial which only fairly recently became dubbed ´Cali´ for  and thus obviously undocumented reasons is very much ok espécially on a Rolex ´dive´ watch.
Well, do you honestly believe that any but the exeption gets uses to dive?Originally Posted by Neely8

So just because most people choose to wear the Sub somewhere other than the sea, means it's not a tool watch?Originally Posted by Huertecilla

No from me that just spoils an iconic watch
I am a fan of California dials and I wouldn't object to a Sub with that layout.
It's a different and valid look but only if it came from the factory like it, I'm not into hot rodded watches.
Not a fan of PVD.
Cheers,
Neil.
Do you jump in like this to all diving watch threads (no pun intended) or only the ones about Rolex?Originally Posted by Huertecilla

Like many, I have nothing against Cali dials - but that doesn't work for me.
Frankly, that looks rubbish. For some reason it works in a PAM style case though :?
Not for me
