White dialled AT would be my choice fwiw.
Ok I've convinced myself that I can now afford an IWC that I've coveted for a long time. I've been wanting the Aquatimer 2000 with the white bezel (is it more collectible now that it's been discontinued??) but am also curious if any of you have the following watch and what you think of it :) - similar in price to the Aquatimer as far as I can tell.
Portofino Automatic
I also wonder how it sits on the wrist and how dressy you feel it is (rather thick, but then again so is the AT 2000).
White dialled AT would be my choice fwiw.
IMO it's a nice enough watch but not much of a head turner and doesn't look so different from / better than many similar style watches that you'd pay a lot less for.
Perhaps I'm a little superficial but, for that money, I'd like to see a little more bang for my buck.

Agree, looks virtually ldentical to the B&M I was looking at last month, nice but not worth paying all the extra for..... in my opinion
Although I'm quite a fan of IWC, I'm not really into dressy watches, so I'd say go for the AT. Then again, the newer ATs aren't entirely my cup of tea either, so I'd look out for one of these:
But then I would say that! 'Cos that's what I did.

When I think IWC I think Portuguese. Had a pilots chrono and didn't really gel with it.
Portuguese is a nice size and although a bit dressy works well as an everyday watch. Nice choice of dials and straps too.
The light is sort of odd in that shot - which one is that, looks real good, how much do you want for it? :mrgreen:Originally Posted by AIDM
The portofino is actually small by today standard and sits close to the wrist. If you like that it is a classic watch but l agree that there are more interesting watches in the IWC range, although more expensive. :)
I'd go for the AT as well. The design has really grown on me. There's nothing wrong with the Portofino, but IWC has much more to offer elsewhere.

Heritage ingineur thing for me.
*edit*
This one. Purest class drizzled in beauty and then dusted with refinement.

I agree. That really is very nice!
I like the Portuguese chronograph :)
Sigh! I suppose trying to stay on budget is a lost cause, but have to be reasonable too I guess. The points about the Portofino are well taken, perhaps it's a bit too "vanilla".
I had the same dilemma as you have. Keep on looking at IWC at under 5k but wanting those closer to 10k. It is a very dangerous game with the casualty being your bank balance! Still not pulled the trigger yet. :x
These are what Jay Pritchett on Modern Family (great show) calls "Champagne Problems" of course :)Originally Posted by tim2012

Think it will be the Aquatimer, but now trying to tell myself it's ok to get it on the rubber and struggling a bit with that dilemma....
Like the Aquatimer. It is great on the rubber strap. :)
I wear an AT on a rubber strap most days and love it
Had 2 Ingy's and a pilot chrono
now looking for a portugieser chrono, but hey, that heritage Ingy looks all that and a bag of chips
Aquatimer is a good call ... is rubber your first choice?Originally Posted by Viking72
Suits some models more than others ...
3719 - didn't keep for long...
3536-03 - still have this
Another vote for the AT here, however very different watches & if you were after a dress watch imo there are other options i would be looking at for this kind of money.
Either of these two discontinued versions of the 3536 are very acceptable and would easily fit the bill.
The white one gets my vote for being rarer and dressier than the black

Go on Viking, you know you want to...
There's three members of the 03 club posted in this thread! Only problem you'll have is finding one.

Well, for me the portefino is a bit plain, and the portuguese was the one that made it for me. Especially the black dial I found to carry both the dressy and the sporty element very well:
I would say 3536 as well....and I think not so hard to find it...

there are developments ongoing - hopefully can confirm the selection very soon! :bounce:
go for the big pilot or portuguese pure class
I agree both are nice, but they are over my current budget which is close to $4k (Portuguese is almost 7k) :mrgreen:Originally Posted by taz11
Well Rob - it's in the hands of the FedEx man as we speak. Should arrive tomorrow afternoon (US East Coast Time).Originally Posted by AIDM

Congrats on the AT! I myself also prefer the older ATs :)
Nice one! Did you go for the one we talked about, or did you find another somewhere else? Looking forward to seeing some pics when it arrives - I love the feeling of anticipation when you know somethings winging it's way to you!Originally Posted by Viking72

IWC pilot watch is classical
If you're thinking of an Aquatimer I would strongly suggest looking at / considering the previous versions. The 3538 is one of my favourite watches, and buying a pre-owned watch would save you a considerable amount. It's also a far better looking watch than the latest incarnation IMO.
make that 4 (but I still prefer the 3538)Originally Posted by AIDM

The 3538 is a great looker, especially in your pics, (that already have got me in trouble over the last couple of years  ) and there's one in SC at a great price, but as I like my watches to have some weight I've always been put off by the Titanium construction...
Rob
...and another 3536-03 :)
The 3538 is a cracking watch but the 3536 is something else, IMHO
Oh my. It will be mine... oh yes, it will be mine!Originally Posted by stooo

it's made it home :)
Get one of these...
I went with the 03 as I believe it's harder to find and also since I have a Sub I wanted a white dial diver. Nice one though!Originally Posted by ism123

3719 for me - I have the black dial (although looks blue in most light). Really please with the look and quality.
There is always the doppelchronograph
