    Spectacles - online cheaper/better?

    Hi,

I was thinking of changing my specs and wanted to ask if buying them online is a cheaper option?

I would like to get a frameless pair with polycarbonate lenses as they are very light. Would appreciate anyone's recent experiences if they've purchased such a pair.

    Thanks

Piad £495 for my varifocal Prada frameless 5 months ago (included extensive eye test and retina photo's though) at Vision Express.

Exact same frame and lens with my prescription could be bought online for £235 posted (albeit without the eye test and photos).

    So probably yes IMO.

I've used Metsuki successfully - I was very happy with their service. Much cheaper than the high-street cartels, although you do have to get your own 'pupillary distance' which can be a faff, as high-street opticians will not ( and are not yet obliged to do so by law ) divulge this critical measurement.

Lose or sit on my glasses constantly, I always buy on line, glassesdirect or speckyfoureyes.

Bought a pair of Ralph Lauren Polo glasses with lenses before Christmas for about 65 pounds delivered. Can't fault them http://www.fashioneyewear.co.uk/. Infact will definitely get another pair as soon as I can get round to it. On the High Street would have cost 100 pounds more?

Another happy glassesdirect user. Probably not the cheapest, but I've been very impressed.

Have used glassesdirect numerous times. Always happy. But make sure you try the glasses first or at least check measurements carefully before buying.

I've bought frames from several internet sites and then I have them glazed at http://www.ciliaryblue.com
You will need a current prescription. There are many choices of lens types with all sorts of coatings and they say they are the suppliers to some of the high street shops so they are the trade prices.
I have found them to be very good. I think basic lenses start around £20.
I bought two pairs of Oakley frames from the bay then had then glazed at Cillery blue for a total cost of £260. That was well under half price of Optical express.
