I've been a member on here for a few years now and my collection has gone from my first proper watch
a Breitling Blackbird first model to trying out several different brands. Doxa, Sinn, Marathon, Fortis, Blancpain,
IWC, JLC, Breguet all wonderful watches in their own right and a pleasure to wear. But mid last year I felt
that I wanted to try a completely different route, I've read the reviews, seen the pictures but often thought
what is all the fuss about a 'vintage?' And so I began finding out what makes people so interested in the vintage
watch aura that is very apparent on the forum. I looked for several months and then seen Simon's (Gurmot)
1665 'Great White' come up and thought that really looks different and we met up and he showed me his great
looking watch and immediately it blew me away. The touch & feel was so smooth, no sharp edges that a new watch has.
The acrylic crystal was just the most amazing thing I'd seen , a perfect dome that looked different at every angle but magnified
the dial so beautifully. I could feel the years of daily wear that only a vintage could give and I knew that the vintage penny had dropped.
And so I decided that was where I was going to take my collection next and my sell and search began. And here is my very own
1665 that has been lovingly cherished by its 2 previous owners, it came with a service crystal and with help from AndyG ( )
I have now returned it to its original glory with a new Tropic 39 that I just fell in love with when I seen Simon's.
To say I'm happy is understating the obvious and had it not have been for several great forum members who have given me
the most fantastic advice on the vintage Rolex I would not be the very proud owner of this beauty. The patina is to die for 29 years of wear and still going strong 8)

Absolute beauty
:rr:
Love that.
Beautiful 8)
Loving that domed plexy, if indeed it is plexy, love it anyway.

The previous owners must have looked after it ;)
The new dome does have a very distinctive look and does make a big difference.
Watch looks close to mint and almost unbelievable for 30 years!
I think the 1665 is the best vintage Rolex to have for overall looks and history - well unless you could go Comex or HEV cased sub.
Best regards
Scott
It's just a matter of time...
Gotta love that domed crystal - makes a watch seem even more special. Same effect on the Panerai models too.
That is pretty special
