G-Shocks, G-Shocks and more G-Shocks
I know this has been touched on here before en passant but does anyone know what various special forces units actually wear? (I'm not talking about all the SF branded garbage that kicks around out there claiming the most tenuous of links!)
The only one I'm aware of was the kon-ticki that the IDF sayeret matkal used to wear way back when.
CWC seem to claim that the SBS use/d one of their G10 variants I think but no idea if that's still the case?
G-Shocks, G-Shocks and more G-Shocks
Probably G Shocks, Timex digitals, CWC's. I think Eddie supplied a Broadarrow PRS3 or 4 once to one.
Rod
i'd guess G-shocks would be pretty likely. Didn't Rolex subs used to be supplied to one of our lot back when the prices were not so steep?

According to Laco homepage the german GSG9 use this:

Watches are a necessity for everyone and this specially applies for the Special forces, who are required to be on time the most. I have heard that there are some standards fixed for the watches that the Special force people can use, but they will not be allowed to have some fancy ones. After all there ought to be some uniformity in the dress code.
They wear what ever they want to. They are only people, some like watches some dont, some with wear a G10 some a g shoc and may be even a few SMPs and subs, what they will wear on certain operations will wholly depend on the type of operation.
You mean like this one below? Not my pic but my watch. I wear it on a leather Banda with a really trick deployant I bought a while back. It is a great watch. Often copied and faked unfortunately but this is the real deal. Looking for some Eterna Bracelet links if anyone has any........ I know, I know, Rocking Horse Doo Doo!! :(The only one I'm aware of was the kon-ticki that the IDF sayeret matkal used to wear way back when.
some great pics there lads, cheers! Graham that's indeed the one I meant - cracking watch!
Argee - why the marker pen on that pic? (I must be missing something here!)

I've definitely seen a lot of Suuntos on news coverage of military operations.

You're all wrong. They ALL wear this:
I mean... it says so on the dial.
Funnily enough, I got to meet some rather interesting chaps late last year. They were all wearing either Suunto or Casio Pro-Trek ABC's, about a 50/50 split IIRC.
When only mechanical watches were extant of course Subs etc were worn as they were the best watches of the type at the time.
Nowadays I think anything other than a G-shock, Suunto etc would be daft when comparing the shock resistance between mech and quartz, the accuracy and the addition of countdown modes etc.
Not to mention the price differential.
Cheers,
Neil.
An old school friend wears a Suunto.
But if he was an american it would be one of these (well if you belive the advertising): http://www.chase-durer.com/features/..._features.aspx
Some French Paras / Foreign Legion in Africa - Trasers
Some of Russia's Alpha Team- Trasers
Some participants to the Swiss Raid Commando competition- Wenger as sponsor and partner of the event
He..he..
Are Traser well considered, say vs. Suunto? I'm beginning to plot a small collection and I'd like some kind of 'forces' piece in it, but not necessarily something particularly expensive. I rather like the Classic Automatic Pro Blue TR-059:
This made me laugh are you sure its not one of these though, not to forget the camouflage green hypoallergenic rubber strap. http://watches.infoniac.com/graham-chro ... ctive.html. it looks like a granade and says sas on it.Originally Posted by shadowninja

I'd have thought they would wear what ever they wanted within reason as long as it works. I doubt the would wear a watch that had "Special Ops" written on it - great for undercover work!!
Andy McNabs Nick Stone wore a "traser" in quite a few of his books - but that was fiction
He also wore a Baby-G a few times :lol:Originally Posted by sjedwardz

Well I wore a Seiko 009 on a NATO green strap.

Norwegian special forces unit FSK (Forsvarets Spesial Kommando ) were issued Seiko 200 m quartz divers in the past,I don`t know what their current standard issue watch is,though..
These were apparently issued to US Navy Seals back in the late 70s/early 80`s (only the type II is still in my care :| .)
There were a handful of SAS who went in through the balconies of Princes Gate - but the amount who have claimed to have been one of them is into the hundreds/thousands :lol:Originally Posted by shadowninja
That, and a) the balcony was pretty much the only bit of the action that was visible on tv, and b) it was never clear from the tv footage at the time if the guy who, iirc, set the entry charges on the windows was clear of the blast when they went off/were set off.Originally Posted by GraniteQuarry

so; if i buy a G shock and grow a moustache, that'll be me as SF right? will it help me pull more burds than the lambo and day-date combo though is the crucial question! :D
This is a issue piece from the 1970's Benrus type II class A was use by the US Military and most likely used by special forces.

The SAS are famous for Operation NIMROD, during which there were upwards of 35,000 serving members of 22 deployed to storm the Tasmanian Embassy and rescue the ostriches. Upon completion of this tasking they were each paid one million sterling and told to go forth unto the land and spread the news of their success. That's why every pub in the United Kingdom has its own veteran who was on the roof that fateful day in 1980.
an acquaintance who was sf and now runs his own chauffer/minder business wears a breitling emergency.
ktmog6uk
marchingontogether!
That is blatantly the same watch as a Breitling Pluton 3100 :o
