I've been sitting on this one for a month short of 8 years, today I finally had good reason to open it.

Not just a house move but, long story short, a big positive marker in my life as well.

    Cheers, all.

    This is a nice whisky:

And technically it’s still dry January as this is for medicinal purposes only: to counter the effects of last night’s science experiment at the vGTG.

The experiment was, which is better: Lore or Uigeadail?

I don’t remember the result...I became tired....might need more data points!

Many times. It’s perfectly drinkable, if slightly bland. But for £15 it’s a bargain!

Great, if the lockdown is ever over, I might just have it with my friend as a ''calibration'' drink :-)

I’ll go and have a look tomorrow, they didn’t have many, I bought two. One for myself, one for a mate.

I’m opening it now to try.

Edit: Damn it, I think it wasn't stored upright as the cork is a bit damaged and stuck to the bottle. Shame.
    Not a bad drink though.

... but what did you think of this Bunnah? I expected much more purchasing this after the 12yr old - I mean it's a very decent, light, Islay and it was a bargain on Amazon at around £21 a month or so ago...but it feels very young, and just several classes below the 12 (which I thought was great for the money).

    Hi Chris.
I think you are spot on. I’m glad I also bought it at that price point, it’s a nice simple dram but the 12 is much more complex and a completely different whisky for me.

I tried the Stiuireadair in one of the blind sessions I took part in a couple of months or so back, one or two of us enjoyed it however I was one of a few that thought it average at best. I'm yet to open my bottle of Moine.

Im trying to get through a bottle of Macallan Gold to free up the space it’s taking up in my piano (aka whisky cabinet). Must say that I’m really not enjoying it at all. I know it’s an entry level Macallan, but I expected better than this to be honest. I can only manage one before having to move on to something else every time I try it.
    Won’t be buying that again.

Yep, I felt exactly the same about the Macallan Gold. Ended up keeping it to serve to friends who wanted a whisky but are clueless about whisky.

I like this especially if you open it, have a few then leave a few months to let what oxygen has got to it to take effect. It makes a massive difference.

Interesting, I don’t think anyone will be visiting me any time soon, so this bottle will last.

Do old scotch & brandy have any value?
Dad mentioned he has several 50+ years old bottles, Bells, Dimple & 70-80 Courvoisier, all boxed?

Certainly. Though the spirit is still the same age as it was unlike wine (if it was a 12 year old, it's still 12, despite being 12+50!), there are collectors who are after bottles from different years.

Potentially considerable value, if they are older / rarer whiskies i.e. a 1950s bottling of a 21 year old Macallan will be worth rather more than a standard bottling of Grants!

Whisky values have gone through the roof in recently years, he might be sitting on a small gold mine.

(I’d be useless at investing in whisky due to my propensity to sample it!)
