Islay has always had the vast majority of its barley shipped to it, the unsuitability of the land and weather conditions on the island see to that. The discussion around what peat is used, why and provenance is an interesting one, as is the point made about Islay whiskies being more of a generalised flavour profile stereotype rather than about said provenance. The truth is, as I understand it, that there are very, very few distilleries that do everything in house from malting, distilling, storing and then to bottling all of their spirits. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Springbank last year who do all of the above bar some of their cask storage.
On a different note, I also bagged myself a Glendronach 18 last night, it'll be my 3rd though only the first of the previous 2 was a 24. I also dropped a BenRiach 21 and a Kavalan King Car Conductor into my basket, the latter is a Taiwanese whisky. All were on sale and also had the welcome10 discount applied as well, I don't think I'll be purchasing anything else this year looking at the number of bottles I have...
