Picked up a bottle of batch 36 from my local Waitrose just this lunchtime. They had no Red Breast thoughOriginally Posted by j17ykp

Myself and spelling have never quite seen eye to eye  probably the reason why I deal with numbers now.Originally Posted by reecie
Red Breast is being discontinued hence the reduction in price; I hope this isn’t the case for A'bunadh.
A quick Google seems to indicate that Redbreast may be £22 at Sainsburys until 18/10/11. So the local weekly shop might get more interesting for the wife.
Are they really discontinuing Red Breast? That is a shame :(Originally Posted by j17ykp

Back on the Lagavulin today - lovely.
Don't think this one really counts here but I love it and it's whisky..
Fireball cinnamon whisky
Great for getting drunk, drink as is or pour in coffee
That's quite a well made video, but it looks like quite an interesting crowd they're playing to
Interested to see what you think of the Tassie whisky. We've got a friend from there who designs golf courses both there and around the world. He's into whisky too, and is in the process of setting up a distillery in Kingsbarns in Fife ( http://www.kingsbarnsdistillery.com/ ). It'd be interesting I reckon to compare the Kingsbarns stuff and see if he's brought any of the Tassie spirit over here (although that might be a few years away yet  )

No, I don't think that's correct so nothing to worry about. In fact, they just released a cask strength Red Breast 12 yr old.Originally Posted by dowsing

Waitrose is trying to bankrupt me. After getting the A'bunadh & Bowmore, I went in last night and they'd reduced The Macallan 10yr Old by £15 to £19.99 so I bought one, tonight they have knocked £15 off the Glenfiddich 15 yr old "Solera" cask, well it would've been s(t)illy not to get it as well.Originally Posted by chrisb

Just read on another forum that Sainsburys has 20% off their whole range of whisky. Might just be in Scotland though. Not sure on the ordinary pricing but sounds like it might be a good deal :)
The current sotc for me is as follows
2 x A'bundah batch 32 1x batch 31
Glenfarclas 15
ardbeg uigeadail
Ardbeg 10
'laddie 17 , pc6 and 8 and infinity second edition

Laph quater cask
That's about it with some more soon I hope
Well I'm sat drinking a good old common Glenfiddich 18 and it's going down a treat.
Sometimes, you can't beat an old favourite.
Lovely!
On a not so positive note, that's four bottles in as many days I've finished off (end of bottles rather than alcoholics anonymous time) and no replenished stock.
the glenfiddich 12 is a bit insipid but the 15 and 18 are pretty good!

I've had the 15 some time back and don't recall being impressed to be honest. The 18's nice though. It's a top three ordinary whiskey for me - alongside quarter cask Laphroaig and Lagavulin 16.
There are some new ones on me within this thread though so I may sell a cheap watch or two and stock up!!
Try the 15 y.o. Distillery Edition at 51 o/o a.b.v.! Massive stuff! (Who'd've thought it from Glenfiddich?)Originally Posted by ktmog6uk

No, it's here as well. Picked up a bottle of highland park last week @ 20% off.. Not sure what I think of it yet, it's definitely drinkable though :drunken:Originally Posted by twhp101
Been taking a stock take after picking up a few recently. Maybe got a bit carried away :drunken:
- Aberlour 10 Year old - light and a nice alternative to the peat that makes up most of the shelf
Aberlour A'bunadh (1 open, 1 sealed) - this is frequently on offer in Waitrose and I picked up a couple of bottles a while ago. At first I found it a bit overpowering, but with a little water this one is lovely and much more robust than the 10 year old
Bunnahabhain Darach Ur Batch 5 (sealed) - just picked up in duty free so yet to crack open
Bowmore 12 Year old - to many different variations of Bowmore to try them all, but I like this one
Canadian Club - always have a bottle on hand for a Club and Dry
Caol ila 12 Year old - really enjoying this one, and will definitely pick another up when this one runs dry
Caol ila Cask Strength - just like the 12 year, a really enjoyable drink
Glenfiddich 12 Year old - not really for me, but good to have for those that like it
Glenlivet 18 Year old - this was on a great offer, and even without the saving its great value, very nice
Glenlivet 16 Year old Nadurra (sealed) - just finished a bottle of this recently and yet to open the reserve bottle. Bought this originally when my father was coming to stay, and was very pleasantly surprised liking it a lot more than I expected
Glenmorangie 10 Year old - quite enjoy this
Highland Park 12 Year old - great stock whiskey
Jim Beam - it is what it is 8)
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year Old - picked this up after hearing a few good reviews and seeing it on a good offer. Not had a lot of it, but I have enjoyed it so far
Jura 16 Year Old - a solid enough bottle, not outstanding but worth having
Jura Superstition - not overly impressed with this, but its certainly not unpleasant
Lagavulin 1991 Distillers Edition (2007 bottling x3, 2008 bottling x2, sealed) - liquid gold, I absolutely adore this one. Not got any of this years batch yet and never seen it on offer to stock up on. Very disappointed Newcastle Airports duty free didn't have any recently. Can't imagine ever being anything short of in awe of this
Lagavulin 16 Year old (1 open, 1 sealed) - one of my favorites, will always have a bottle of this on the shelf
Laphroaig Quarter Cask (1 open, 1 sealed) - always been a fan of Laphroig and enjoyed all the bottles I have tried, and this one doesn't disappoint
Laphroaig 10 Year old - the first proper whiskey I ever drank, and one that left a lasting impression, this is another one which is always on the shelf
Nikka from the Barrel - picked up a few years ago, and didn't like it so much at first, but its grown on me
Oban 14 Year old - another of my early favorites that's always enjoyable
Oban 1992 Distillers Edition - not as good as some of the other distillers editions, but different enough to worth trying along with the 14
Talisker 10 Year old - another on the repeat purchase list
Talisker 1999 Distillers Edition (sealed) - not tried this one yet, but thought I would keep onto it for a while
Talisker 57º North - just opened, nice and powerful, will need to try some more to be sure, but first impressions are very positive. Probably should crack open the DE and compare it with that and the 10 year, but not tonight
Tobermory 10 Year old - was given this as a present, and wouldn't buy another, but its not unpleasant
Wild Turkey 8 Year old - lovely with ginger ale, served with a lot of ice, in a pint glass :D
It's not the most original collection, with lots of obvious choices, but I just can't help picking up a nice bottle if I spy one on offer when getting a big shop in. Need to get myself into town before xmas and treat myself to some more independent bottles, to flesh out the collection.
That's quite a stash you have there :drunken:Originally Posted by gamingdave

It's hard to choose, and my taste varies according to mood etc. but you're absolutely right it's one to be in awe of.
I think you'll enjoy the Talisker too when you open it. It's similarly epic 8) The Lagavulin wins, but the Talisker's not far off.
My Mum gave me a (litre) bottle of Glen Garioch Founders Reserve Highland Single Malt this evening...
Just having a snifter now, straight, no ice and WOW - it's powerful stuff (48%).
Bloody lovely it is too :D
Thanks Mum !!!
Just sipping the lovely Connemara 12 year old single malt.

I don't have the most sophisticated palette so I am not going to try and tell you what I can taste, but I can tell you its delightfully smooth and yet pungent and ripe. I have tried it with and without water, and for me, just a drop brings it to life without taking anything away. Its got the peaty tones of the Lagavulin, but possibly sweater, though that may be the lingering taste from the raisin and oat biscuits my sister made and delivered this afternoon!
Think I will have to get another bottle at some point before the year is out.
Lol - probably was cheap last week!! :lol:Originally Posted by reecie

Top tip, get someone to send you some. Wash out some shower gel or similar containers very carefully, fill with the tipple of your choice and send in the post. A method used by squaddie's in various locations all over the world :)Originally Posted by Dazzler
Bruichladdich, one of the lighter Islay's. I like it that much I've got a barrel sat in their warehouse; it was nine years old last week. It will be quite a party this time next year :drunken:

Big fan of Laphroig, love the peaty taste. Would liek to try a few other similar ones though (would I be right in thinking Islay Malts have all have similar qualities), if anyone has any recomendations...
I was gifted some Bruichladdich (5ml bottle) last week. Not bad, but way too light for my tastes.
