Last drink for a week. Something lightly peated. Mixed reviews on this but it’s pretty decent for the £20 I paid, if you like spice & a little smoke that is. Cheers

Opened this one last night, I'm a big fan of their Fusion so thought I'd give this one a try. I can't back to back it with the Fusion as, for the first time in years, I don't have any however I wouldn't say it's peat hit is much bigger and this one is sweeter... Glad I tried it though the jury is out as to which I prefer.

    Missed it. Bugger.

I only became a committee member about 2 weeks ago and it was for that kind of thing I joined for. Need to keep a closer eye on my Ardbeg emails...

Bought this when it was a hot topic a couple of months or so back, tonight is its first outing.

I do enjoy trying new whiskies and this is probably the best of the admittedly small selection (3, maybe 4) Bunnas I've tried. I'd describe it as a relatively soft peated spirit that has, for me at least, a pleasant background brine twist that all mellows to something sweet and light on the finish.

A worthwhile purchase, and thanks to whoever it was that first mentioned it.

Wow, this packs an up front punch. Possibly quite harsh but something very moreish about it. Has a good long finish and can defo get apples and toffee in there.
For £25 it packs lot in for discussion!

Teeling Small Batch Irish whiskey is reduced to £18.47 in Asda, not one I've tried so picked up a bottle to sample today

Have to say i didn't rate this, found it harsh, the oak overpowered the distillery style for me, all vanilla wood and alcohol burn and none of the gentle grassy meadow flavour of the standard Auchentoshan.

This was a surprise gift on my birthday last week.

I've an unopened bottle of the 12, but cracked this open last night to let the gifter know what it was like. Very easy drinker, plenty of sherry, not too complex.

Great looking bottle, even though only 40% I'm sure it will open up more now there's air in the bottle.[/IMG]

for me, it's a younger, toned down version of the 10 year old. fine in it's place but no comparison side by side. this is £25 in tesco at the moment, and the 10 year old is £30. it's worth the extra fiver.

Tbh I bought it as it was on sale and wanted to give it a try. It’s slightly sweeter and less developed than the 10 years, but that makes it a little ‘confused’ if that makes sense. Still a good drink but much better ones out there

Fascinating experience this weekend as to the polar ends of Islay whisky. Having bought a bottle of the latest Ardbeg Committee Release for £143, I also bought two bottles of the "Black Bottle" which was on sale on Amazon for £15 - the latter being one of my dad's daily-sip favourites.

I haven't opened the Ardbeg committee release yet, as I'm enjoying an open bottle of Uigeadeal - but from blogger's reviews the committee release is not better than the Oogie, and definitely not considering the premium, collector's price.

The Black Bottle was a really positive surprise, easy drinking light and fresh Islay, and IMHO super-excellent value. Ok it's not going to keep an advanced connoisseur interested for long, but it was very quiffable - both neat and as an Old Fashioned.

So, is the Ardbeg committee release going to be 10x better than the Black Bottle, or give me 10x the enjoyment - I really doubt it...is the Ardbeg committee release an over-priced impulse buy of an over-eager collector - probably

Whereas in relative comparison, it's probably fair to say the Oogie is 3-4x better than the Black Bottle and I will probably enjoy it as much as that...note to self - don't get sucked it limited edition hype as easy, and stick more to the pick of the core range.

    What are your observations?

For £20 it’s pretty decent. Wouldn’t pay more for it however.

    Just retesting for you......

Not sure what it used to be like but definitely sweet, with a bit of caramel for me. Like I say, for £20 you can’t grumble!

Tried this a few times now. Taste comparisons have taken place alongside Glenfarclas 15 and Benriach 12 sherried. Not on the same level as these obviously but this stands up well for a £25 purchase. Such a lingering finish. (The Benriach is my fave by the way)

Mrs Z bought me this for Valentines

I was a bit skeptical at first - but it's quite pleasant.
Probably because it's made with single malts from three Speyside distilleries - & I like Speysides.

You may already be aware of this however the 3 distilleries are represented by the 3 monkeys and 'monkey shoulder' is a term used for the condition that maltman suffered from due to the manual turning over of the barley on the malt floor.

Any idea which 3 distilleries? It's a William Grant brand, so some of Glenfiddich, Balvenie and another? Just guessing here, so I hope a pro can chime in

    Kininvie is the other.

  43. #3293
There's a peated version too - Smokey Monkey. I think they swap out the Kininvie for Ailsa Bay, but not entirely sure. I find it to be a decent mixer for when a cocktail calls for peated whisky.

Tried the Ardbeg Wee Beastie (5 yo) last night - peated but not balanced/smoothed out by oak due to its age; not bad and certainly worth a try by Ardbeg fans but can’t be compared to their other more balanced offerings.

this packs a punch! quite delicate nose, palate sweetish then....smoke! it just keeps coming...Wave after wave, each mightier than the last, Till last, a ninth one, gathering half the deep And full of voices, slowly rose and plunged Roaring, and all the wave was in a flame: And down the wave and in the flame was borne A naked babe, and rode to Merlin's feet, Who stoopt and caught the babe, and cried "The King! Here is an heir for Uther!"
