Should’ve taken a picture before but this didn’t survive tonight between my old man and myself - a rather tasty drink

How does that compare to the Moine? (if you’ve had both)

For me the Moine is one of my favourite whiskeys. Very similar to a Laphroig.

This one is a complete different bag to be honest. More sweet and spice, than peppery smoke! I picked this one up for £22 (a fair bit cheaper than the Moine) but honestly completely different.

Same here - it's much sweeter than I expected for an Islay - but lives up to the reviews & tasting Notes (from House of Malt)

A typically creamy and coastal whisky with notes of caramel, nuts, dried fruit and hints of spice.

    Nose
Brine, toasted sugar and caramel-drizzled raisins.

    Palate
Honey-roasted nuts, cinnamon and clove, with a touch of salt sea too.

    Finish
    Sherried peels and chilli-chocolate.
My emphases above. I quite like it - makes a nice change.

Really enjoyed this myself, one of the best NAS I’ve had and picked up for only £22 or so from Amazon.

Laphroaig quarter cask next up for me.

Just rechecked for the sake of my own sanity. £25 early December but I got it for £22.50 on subscribe and save. Regularly drifts down to £25 or so from what I can tell.

And to add, I normally use Hotukdeals where a good chunk of the membership highlight these deals regularly.

    Hope that helps.

Two weeks until I start my new job, working for Chivas Brothers and based at Miltonduff distillery. I’m looking forward to seeing what malts are in the staff shop. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be able to report back with some tips.

So big & strong it calls Laphroaig a wuss and steals its lunch money.

It’s a nice drink for slow contemplation in front of the fire, and a little goes a long way.

Currently got a Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg Uigeadail on the go. (Uigeadail being the whisky that got me into whisky and currently still sitting at my number 1 spot)
Came home today to see this waiting for me as a little gift, Wee Beastie.
Wow, beautiful drink, I'm no expert at all and I'm fairly new to whiskies but this is a stunner. It'd be rude to not pour myself a second glass.

I'm very excited to try it...it's been on the list for absolutely yonks, but eluded me until now. I love Laga16 (especially the distillers edition) and Laphroig QC...think I need to try a Coal Isla swiftly on the back of this too

I used to do work for Pernod-Ricard in Paris from time to time and was there for their Christmas bash. Being French it started at lunchtime and I have to say the afternoon was very hazy!

The staff shop always made me rather envious, but that was the only opportunity I had to sample their produce.

As a matter of interest, why is this thread entitled 'Whiskey' rather than 'Whisky'?

If when you say whiskey you mean the devil's brew, the poison scourge, the bloody monster, that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home, creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths of little children; if you mean the evil drink that topples the Christian man and woman from the pinnacle of righteous, gracious living into the bottomless pit of degradation, and despair, and shame and helplessness, and hopelessness, then certainly I am against it.

But, if when you say whiskey you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman's step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life's great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, our dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm; to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it.

This is my stand. I will not retreat from it. I will not compromise.

Whiskey = distilled in Ireland or America; Irish or American style spirit.

Whisky = Scotch (and probably rest of world, but happy to be corrected here).

For avoidance of doubt, whisky is infinitely better than whiskey! (Although I am partial to a bourbon now and again).

Indeed, as most posts relate to the proper stuff (Whisky), it seems odd the title is for the rubbish stuff

Dry January would never work for me, my birthday’s on Jan 4th and I can’t imagine a dry birthday. I always get whisky bought as gifts so the temptation is far too great.

Just finishing a bottle of Chivas Regal, not something I’d choose but it’s gone down nicely.

anyone ever tried british vodka? just looking at a distillery in cornwall “colwith farm” apparently
produces award winning vodka using their own home grown potatoes. the one i really want to try is the cornish seabury vodka. i think it’s time to take british made spirits seriously

Trying the new Taketsuru Pure Malt tonight - 2020 release. Very different to the previous one; much more Yoichi in this one giving it a more smokey character.

Erm ‘Dry January’ just got a bit ‘peaty’

But as it’s a science experiment I think it still qualifies as a dry day.

Edit: and the results are as follows. In tasting order:

Laphroaig 10: a really nice whisky. Full of flavour, and complex enough to make you fully realise it’s a ‘proper’ whisky.

Laphroaig QC: blows the 10 year old into the weeds. It’s Laphroaig on steroids, but still lovely and drinkable yet complex. It’s a great whisky.

Laphroaig Lore: sorry, what was I saying? This is simultaneously smoother, yet richer. It is genuinely amazing. It makes the QC taste harsh, and the 10 year old taste like a cup of tea. They are both bog water compared to this.

That is my Dry January experiment. The things I do for TZ!

Anyone tried the Laphroaig PX? Just seen it on some sites at 1L, presumably excess from the airports given it's advertised as a travel exclusive.
