    New guy from Croatia..

    Well hello lads..
I registered thanks to Lee who showed me one of your topics where my straps were mentioned and was so kind to invite me over here so it would be nice from me to introduce myself
My name is Joseph and 'm a law student from Rijeka, Croatia on the northern Adriatic coast

    http://welcome-to-croatia.com/wp-conten ... %20map.jpg
    http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1102/146 ... 15fd7b.jpg
    http://www.adrialin.hr/pics/rijeka/rijeka_02.jpg

And I collect vintage watches, vintage (art deco) furniture, I love history, leather, wood and anything connected to these things so it was natural to start doing something I like in my spare time so I started making straps.

This all started as a hobby and I made few straps for myself since I wasn't satisfied with straps I used to buy. People liked them and I found it to be a truly relaxing hobby which I really enjoy. (Actually so much I haven't touched my Les Paul in few months now). So with time, I started spending more money on tools for my strap making than on my watches. And every single strap I make, I make it primarily as I am making it for myself. Not to mention - every single strap is HAND MADE.

There were lots of questions how can I get the jaguar leather and if these are leftovers from the car seats or faulty factory leather.

    No

These hides are leather samples - and since I work as an interior designer as well so I can buy pretty exquisite Italian leather used only by top factories in furniture business (like Poltrona Frau, Valdichienti, Jaguar, Calia etc...). Since these are the top notch factories, these specimens are also top quality as well (which comes natural as clients are often buying only after seeing these specimens). Leather is so thick and strong while it's made to withstand a 25-30 year seating abuse - I even dare to say this kind of leather could withstand even water even though not sure anyone would actually swim with the leather strap in the first place. The downside is - I can make only one or maximum 2 straps out of one type of leather until I get some more in the future. So basically, they all come unique as they can get.

On the other hand, vintage ammo straps I make out of vintage ammo pouches which are then treated and impregnated to maintain their strength.
Feel free to ask any questions about the straps and I'm looking forward answering those.

    See you here,

    Best regards, Joseph

A Very warm welcome from Germany.

What was the Strap you showed in it`s first life?

How much time does it take you to create one?

Would you do a series of picture on how you make èm?

    regards
    Toby

Chunky 22/24mm straps with the part that the spring bars go through narrowed to 19mm. There are many vintage Seiko fans out there, and finding a decent chunky strap to suit can be a hard task.

Many vintage Seikos have large heads, so they can look a bit odd when they're fitted with a weedy 19mm strap  .

You are exactly right about the Bonavia hotel, but I got the year wrong...it was last year, June 2008. We watched Croatia beat Germany in a local bar...a great afternoon as we got lots of free beer!

The other thing I recall was eating a very very  hot  pizza with loads of chillies in a small restaurant. made riding the bike the following day a little more difficult than usual. From Croatia I recall we headed north to Budapest to stay with my cousin who lives there. Another lovely City.

We hope to get back to Croatia again sometime soon. Lovely friendly people who made us both feel at home.

Greetings. I too have visited Croatia recently. I spent few lovely days in Dubrovnik last summer. Plan is to redo this visit, can you suggest some place, which wouldn't be so tourist-centered. Some wine industry would be great.
