I bet both those sound sweet Lawrence, don't forget to show us the Tele when it lands. You have probably already tried an SG but i'd have to encourage you toward that, they really are excellent guitars! :wink:
I was looking at a 62 RI, a lovely thing.
I love the look of Gibsons but i just don't get on playing them as well as Fenders, i stuck a new set of pickups in my LP recently and i was well pleased with them but a couple of weeks later im back to my 52 RI tele :roll:
BUT i can see me falling for an SG in the future :mrgreen:

I'm probably going to get a 3 saddle bridge for this at some point to give it a vintage vibe.

I think i've posted up a pic of the black guitar before - An ESP Ltd 30th anniversary which is now my drop tuned 'heavy' guitar. The LP is my newly acquired BFG, with a bareknuckles nailbomb in the bridge and some different knobs from stock. Freshly setup too (and with the earthing improved as its quite a noisy guitar) - it lives tuned down 1/2 step.
As I don't play live too much my amp is just a 1 watt blackstar HT1R through a blackstar 2x12 open backed cabinet. It's surprisingly loud! (have seen Gus G play live through one of these to 200+ people on a demo night!)

Just came across this thread, some beautiful guitars in it, I bought this enigma with my first pay packet working in the summer holidays, 1987 ish.
From what I can tell it's a solid bodied Hofner Bass #1 from the early '60's with twin toaster pickups and integral neck distributed by Selmar.
I've had it all these years and still can't play the bloody thing :lol::evil:
Probably ba$tardi$ed in the early 80's. I went to see a specialist about restoring it, he said "does it play" so I said "yes", he said "leave it alone then" :lol:

I have recently joined a night class ata local college for luithery skills...just the basics, but current projects are a Fender Lite Ash Korean birds eye maple neck, that i have removed all the poly and nitro'd the body new graph nut and Schaller locking tuners.
A spanish all solid timbered Santos Martinez 48mm nut, as above removed the poly and nitro'd and bone saddle and nut and Gotoh tuners.
And a really recent purchase Epiphone ES339 natural, that way you can pick the best of the grain, bone nut grover tuners and cts pots and a pair of cream Gibby P94

Before arthritis set in I had 7 guitars and a banjo, but all but one have now been sold to a music school where I hope they will be appreciated.

Kudos to you buddy! I sold all mine when my Guyon's Canal ruptured in 1998 and had some beauts as well. Anyway, last year i had the opportunity to try again and hey, before you know it, all my money has gone again!

I was looking for a P-90's guitar for a while but had a massive aversion to stop bars. I don't know why but i got it into my head about intonation not being adjustable. Anyway, i got to try this and thought 'Hey, if PRS use this set up, who am i to complain?' it takes a little getting used to, especially when palm muting but, dagnabbit it's a sweet guitar to play and i've never known a guitar to hold it's tuning so well. I was going to try a Tonepro's AVT-II but it's so good, i'm not going to mess with it.
My guitars can never be played. They've still got the old tagger on them. No, don't touch. I was only pointing. Well don't point even. That's enough of that one.
Essentially the same as acoustic guitar setup and works for them so why not electric. I initially had the same thoughts, especially reading reviews of the original Gibby Junior wraparound tialpiece and swapped mine out for a Tonepros fully adjustable intonating tailpiece. They are without question definately more stable as they lock.
So that was the issue for me on the original Gibby wraparound it had 2 little gromets that you screwed into the tailpiece pushing themselves against the posts,which inturn moved the tailpiece backwards or forwards, which I suppose in time, what with string changes, will eventually move, thusly putting out the intonation.
But really I think in most cases players of a certain standard understand and know how to adjust their own intonation and the latter doesnt seem to be the real issue, but an issue of tone.
The tonepros item was made of aluminium and in my humble opinion made a better upgrade to the chrome plated brass Gibson tailpiece.
Spencer you're right about the palm muting needs alittle bit of getting used to, but I found resting my hand on the tailpice essentially putting my pick more centrally between the pickups and a more balanced playing was achieved.

:lol: Yeah, i've now learned my lesson though. The PRS has a Zig-Zag bridge and it's solid. I still like the ABR/Nashville type but i'll not dismiss the stopbar as easily in future.You're too fussy. :lol:

Cant comment on your technical abilities :lol: But your stop tail is compensated one so would do the same job as the tone pros, only real difference is locking and construction material, which the latter as you will know mate is a contentious issue with regard to TONE.
Steve Vai says tone is in the fingers, and i'm in that camp.
In my 30 years of playing, in and out of bands, i'm convinced yeah the best wood, best pickups, best amps and best effects help, but knowing and understanding music and developing your own style, you can make broom handle sound intresting.
Yes indeedy.
People go on and on about tone but all things being equal in the end it comes from the player.

Not wanting to hijack the thread but talking briefly about tone I wonder if you have heard of Ted Greene, check out his explanation of harmony and using his exampled version of Autumn Leaves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlrpMgoP_uc and now compare it with Joe Pass version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=795sG19cPmU.
Interestingly both guitarist arent maxed out with amps and effects quite the opposite, its the dynamics of the music created by their sublime understanding of music and oh their obvious VIRTUOSITY.
I play the Pass version cos its the easier of the two, tried Greene style, but although a reasonable classical player myself, just cant get all those sporadic cross string plucking, which is more in keeping with Chet Atkins stlye.
Often I have come close to throughing all my axes in the bonfire, especialy with the advent of You Tube.
It seems these days now even 4 year olds & Amebas can play better than me :lol:

I have a Gordon Smith GS2 with stop bar and P90s. Genius. It cost me a fraction of an SG junior and plays/sounds every bit as good. Very light, fantastic neck, oozes sustain....what more can a man want?
I currently have too many guitars and have decided to cut down to just two, which are a '92 Eggle Los Angeles Standard, and the afore mentioned Gordon Smith. Not that I like British guitars or anything...
Up for the chop are two of these, well one of these (Ibanez SA100 from 1978) and a slightly later version (Ibanez AS100 from 1981) with pointy ears. Both in immaculate condition... can't sell yet as I don't have enough posts and I don't want to use this as a sly way of posting a sale, so these are NOT for sale until I reach the designated post count...
Also I have a Vox Custom 25 and an Antoria Custom Memphis (same as the Ibanez instrument and exquisite) but no pics right now.... they will follow when I reach the aforementioned number...
Just took a rather dingy snap of all my three leccy's together so may as well add it on here..

As of all things, i had a plan which meant i had to make sacrifices. Within nano-seconds the plan changed. I intended to sell one, i ended up selling three and getting two both of which are sweet.
Kismet is strange; i took both into work the other week to do some comparisons and when i got home, realised i'd left them both at work. No problems as we were going away for the weekend. Came back after the weekend and the house had been done over! :shock:
One guitar that i have yet to send out cannot be found at the moment as the house is a tip (we only got back in the house last weekend) but my two were safe at work! I'm just hoping i can find the 'outgoing' safe as i sold it to a forum member here and we have yet to submit an insurance claim.
Oh blimey, so sorry to hear that mate. :(

hows it going bud? Those guitar mounts, did you get them from e-Bay? I got three (snap) to go in my man-cave but have yet to mount them, are they secure at an angle like that? I thought they had to be horizontal!
Yep, Roberts Guitars, I think. Nice guy to deal with and he threw in another set of electric mounts in case I want to swap the acoustic down at some point. The acoustic one will take my old electro acoustic but it seemed like a squeeze to get a dread sized guitar like my Tak or Martin in there
They hold great at this angle and could probably go a bit further. The rear mount hooks around the bottom curve of the guitar so it's pretty safe. I'm more worried about the quality of the walls I bolted them to :shock:

Love the 'Lil Night Train head! There's an amusing video somewhere on YouTube of a guitar shop demoing this head with some enormous Marshall cab and it seems to handle it pretty well. Will have to try and find it tomorrow :)

Spencer that's terrible news, happened to me several years ago and the thieves actually came upstairs when me and the family were all sleeping :shock:
So now there's a lock /snib on the living room door which annexes the upstairs from downstairs.

I like the Epiphone Junior - and it's bigger than I remember seeing it. Was looking at these when I got the 'Lil Night Train, but also considered the Ac4tv and V112TV together. Some nice little valve head and cab combos out there at the moment :)
You made a good call with the Night Train; The AC4TV was nice but the Night Train blew it out of the water, thats why it went. The Epi VJ is a great no nonsense amp with a great tone and the 12" Eminence speaker is one of the best i've heard in this sort of Wattage. I've been pushed for space recently so i've been running my Vox NT through a set of iGrado headphones and ot sounds good through them as well! :D

Great to see the gordon smith guitars on here, that was my main axe for a long time when i was young
1980's Takamine 12-string, tuned in open D.
