    Let's see your guitars

    Hi all

I know a few people on here either play or collect, or both, so let's see your guitars. I think we've had a similar thread a long while back, but there's plenty of new people around these days who may be able to add some pics and info.

Here's one I bought this morning at the boot sale. Only a Kay, but it kicks out a surprisingly chunky sound. Shame the tremelo arm was missing, but I couldn't leave it behind for £15.

So, let's see you axes 8)

    Cheers

    Re: Let's see your guitars

Only pic I have is this ancient one of my '89 US standard Strat.

Acoustic wise I have an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe.

Haven't played either of them for years. Just lost all interest.

I remember them selling those Kay models in Woolworths Ian.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Yeah! I think a few of us share the bass/watch obsession :)

The black P bass is a new addition - bought it from a fellow basschatter for a good price, as it needed a bit of work doing to it. Took it into Peter Allen (who is a complete genius!), and he sorted the neck out (which was a little bit like a banana), fixed the truss rod problems, and sorted out the upper frets. I only got it back on Friday, but it absolutely plays like a dream now - definitely my favourite bass out of them.... So much so, that I might sell the '62....

Very nice, Thomas. Is that Jazz old or relic-d? Or both? And what are the years of the others?

Thank you tredders. It's a 1964 Jazz, the Telecaster is from 1970 and has a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder for more punch. The Precision is from 1960 and the Strat is 1976.

Found the P-Bass in London years ago. The shop owner told me it once belonged to Chris Glenn (Alex Harvey, Michael Schenker Group). Maybe it's true...

    Best regards,
    Thomas

    Hi,

I don't have pictures of them all and the ones I do have aren't particularly good pictures:

1984 Fender Strat, fitted with a couple of Dimarzio stacked humbuckers:

Next an Epiphone Casino bought this year:

And a Les Paul Standard also new this year:

So much better value for money than watches I find.

    Re: Let's see your guitars

I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to guitars and my collection is forever changing!

    At the moment I have:-

    Tokai 335 ~ Seth Lover
MIJ Fender Stratocaster ~ SSL-1 Californian Set
Gretsch Electromatic ~ GFS NYII & NYIII
MIM Fender Tele ~ Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder and Hot Tele Tapped
Tokai MIJ SG - Gibson 57's
Tokai MIJ LP - Pearly Gates Set
    K.Yairi Gordon Giltrap Signature

I play this little lot through either a Cornford Harlequin or Matamp Minimat MK1 with 1x12 cab.

My current gas is for a LP Junior or DC in TV Yellow.

My 12 string Terada FW-952 accoustic - a good quality copy of a Gibson Hummingbird

.. needs a bit of TLC here:

Plan to plane a wafer thin piece of mahogany from some suitable donor wood and glue it over the top of the rib - then try some French polish. The rib was already damaged when I found the guitar in a pawnbroker's shop.

    Re: Let's see your guitars

Tredders another Basschat user here. If you ever get close to selling that 76 black/black/maple P, let me know ;)

    Mine:
My number 1 take to every gig guitar - 2003 Les Paul Standard with a pair of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates.

97 Les Paul Standard, possibly sold

2007 Martin HD-28V - THE acoustic guitar as far as I am concerned. Probably the most copied acoustic guitar but none of them sounds like this

2006 Japanese Fender Telecaster Custom - ideal for Country-noir

    1983 Gordon-Smith GS01 - the English LP Junior

Epiphone 335 Dot with a Gibson Burstbucker and a Rio Grande Texas BBQ pickups - sadly not as a good as the real thing.

2004 Fender USA Precision - not this one, I sold it when my band broke up, but bought an identical one a few weeks back

1993 Japanese Squier Strat - first proper guitar. Must have been nearly new when I got it.

200? Crafter Lite - amazing value for money. I paid £115 for this and recently saw a cedar topped version in a shop for £279!

    Bigger pics here -

Pics of the ones that got away (including my Stingray, LP Custom, 335 and 3 SGs) here -

I'm loving that gulf liveried Les Paul .. and is there a LP 'smartwood' in there too .. ?

No point in me posting pictures of my Les Paul Studio (arctic shite, gold hardware).. never had any reason to buy another guitar (well .. never had a reason to buy more watches either, butcan't justify it taking up the space) other than a 6-string and 12-string yamaha accoustic.

Some lovely axes in here gents. Lets see your amps too!

The Gulf LP is my own work and my own 'design'. It's an early 90's Orville (Gibson Japan) that I imported from Japan in a right state. copius amounts of body filler and sanding later I had my first crack at painting a guitar. It doesn't stand scrutiny from a couple of inches away ever so well, but to say I did it in the garage with car aerosols I'm quite pleased with the results! Great stage guitar.

The 'smartwood' one is a Gibson Studio in all Mahogany thing, which I bought because it was really light weight. I usually like my LPs to be on the heavy side (the Gulf is over 11lb) but had a few back problems and wanted something lighter but still a Les Paul. It weighs in at just under 7lb, thanks mostly to the huge cavity in the body and lack of maple cap, but it growls like a good un and sounds particularly nasty, which I like :)

Amps wise I only have the one these days. A TSL60 Marshall head and a 2 x12 cab. Currently hanging my nose over a Mesa Dual Rectifier but have yet to decide whether that comes before or after a Sinn U1....

    Re: Let's see your guitars

What a great collection of guitars. I'm down to just my acoustic, a 1989 Martin D-16A ("A" for ash back and sides). This was one of Martin's experiments with tonewood alternatives to the more expensive and scarce rosewood and mahogany standards. The ash gives it a brighter sound than rosewood or mahogany, I happen to like it:

For any Martin fans out there I posted a thread here a while back on my tour of the Martin factory. I also posted something much more comprehensive with more pictures and annotation of the pictures on this site: http://theunofficialmartinguitarforu...om/topic/83720

I discovered that too at the weekend, went to make amends, got them all out and then started playing them. Before I knew it, darkness had descended . Hopefully I'll be able to take some snaps later in the week and won't get too distracted next time .

    Hi Neil,

It is Heritage Sunburst and that isn't a great picture of it (looks too dark). It looks much more like this photo in the flesh, a sort of nicely pre-aged Sunburst:

The finish on modern Gibsons is up there with the best. The Honey Burst and I think there is a finish called Desert Burst look just as good: shame I had to choose just the one.

Sorry for joining in on this thread a bit late! Some lovely guitars on show! Very jealous of Crazytrain's Les Paul collection! ...and gasgasbones, that home made SG looks awsome! Here's my pride and joy....

A 1984 Westone rainbow 1. Owned from new and pretty much in immaculate condition.

Westone Spectrum GT Bass - currently in bits for a repair and re-finish. A very long running project!

I'll have to get some photos of the rest. A fairly motley collection...

    Indie LP Copy
    Fender 50's Classic Strat (Mex)
    Westone Thunder 1A
Simon and Patrick Acoustic (same as one posted earlier I think)

I used to have one of these:

A Charvel 3A. However, it was a creamy off white colour rather than red:

Had a '67 black Les Paul Custum (the triple HB) at one point and a very odd SG: small pick guard, dot inlays rather than flares, no binding down the neck and a large surface mounted Bigsby rather than the long type that anchored at the strap post. From '69. Never seen another like it. Should never have let it go.

Carl I usually use http://www.ultimate-guitar.com for tabs. Try and get Guitar Pro installed on your PC as well and use the GP files on Ultimate Guitar - they tend to be the most accurate, although because they're all user submitted, be prepared for tabs on that site to be either slightly wrong, very wrong, in a very strange key, make no sense at all, or not be the song you think it is!!

Actually, I have a Yamaha Pacifica with two Seymour Duncans and one original pickup moved towards the neck to keep that "Strat" sound.

SG 2000 eh? I remember Santana playing one of those in the late 70's I think and a bloke in the Undertones from your neck of the woods.

What is the signature on your Tele scratch plate? Van Morrison, another NI bloke?

    Nice collection.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Is that '72 Precision refinished? Or is it all original? It's bloody gorgeous...

    Cool Pic :)

do they all have a different sound/tone or is it just another type of "collection disease"?
