    Quartz diver options

I've been down this road before but I'm still looking for a quartz diver's watch to buy new or nearly new and keep and wear regularly for the foreseeable future,

My favourite of Eddie's quartz divers is the PRS17-Q but the date issue means that I can never be completely happy with it. I don't get on with the bezel on the PRS-18Q and having sold my old PRS-3 for £80, £300 for a replacement is too much of a heart breaker.

Seems unlikely that there will be a new PRS-3Q in the near future and even if there is I suspect it will share the bezel problems of the 18Q. So I've been looking at alternatives.

I don't like Seiko or Citizen styling I find the price and potential ongoing service cost of the Sinn UX a bit scary. The Seamaster Professional is bit too blingy..........

So any suggestions? I'd like to spend less than £400 and the absolute max is £700.

Traser P5604 or similar. Well within your budget, great support in the UK.

My mid-size SMP quartz on SC? :D

After all, nearly 10 years wabi on that sucker, so it's not a blingy as it used to be... 8)

Seriously though, what about one of the Steinhart divers? I know 'homages' provoke strong feelings amongst some on here, but they look like fantastic value to me.

I don't want an automatic. I had been thinking about getting a PRS-17A which avoids the date problem but in the end I want a good quartz watch.

The mid-size is an option i had not considered. I like the size of the PRS 17 so i will take a look. Thanks for suggesting it.

What about the Bathys titanium quartz diver? Just under 1000USD so within your budget after import from USA? See http://www.bathyshawaii.com/ and click on the drop-down menu marked 'collection', the ti diver is at the bottom. Seen these in the metal and they look very good, if a little overpriced.

Thinking about the PRS17C (admittedly not a diver, but a cool quartz nonetheless) I thought of the Dievas Divergraph Blue Professional and that lead me to the Oceantimer 1330. Unusual. Cheapish ($350). Different, if nothing else? Available from Gnomon.

I've been looking for a 40mm+ quartz diver with date and sapphire for some time now. Apart from an SMP or Sinn UX1, I could only find a Longines Hydroconquest or Tag Aquaracer that are in a similar price bracket. Lower down the scale there's the Glycine Sub quartz, but that doesn't have a bracelet option.

I've tried the 17C and whilst there is so much to like the lume is pitiful. I like the look of the Oceantimer so i'm adding it to the shortlist.

If you like the design, go for this one, the Ebel discovery diver.
They can still be bought on the bay for a very, very low price, even with the fabulous bracelet.
They even use a very high quality especially made for Ebel quartz movement, like Cartier.
    Very well made piece.

    Cheers,

    Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

    I noticed that as well.
But with the weak dollar, even including VAT you may find a great deal.
If I come across a EU one during my quest for watches, I'll let you know :)

Trouble is I've bought and sold 20+ Seikos over the years, because however brilliant the value and proven the mechanicals, on the aesthetics front they just don't float my boat. Bizarrely the idea of taking an Ebel diver to the allotment in February for hard labour does.

    It takes all sorts.

    There you go,

    http://cgi.ebay.nl/NEW-EBEL-DISCOVERY-M ... 414333ef72

Can't find any other black dialed bracelet quartz ones.
Even with VAT it's not going to be much more than 500,- GBP I reckon.
And this really is a quality piece.
Pfff, need a drink now :D

Have a look at a Certina DS First. Very nice quality for the money. I had the chrono version for a while and was very impressed. They use quality ETA movements, too.

There was one for sales on SC back in August:

Gnomon has International delivery. So not a problem. According to Dievas' website, QT is the AD is in the UK (http://www.qualitytime-watches.co.uk/di ... x?brand=13).

Thanks for all of the thought provoking replies. In the end I solved this one with a bit of lateral thinking. The PRS-17-Q is the watch I want but is has a flaw that I can't bear not to see fixed, so.........

..............buy a PRS-17A and keep the 17Q. The automatic doesn't have the flaw and I use the quartz when conditions demand.

Its the cheapest option and I get two great watches into the bargain.

Seems like you've made up your mind, but just to confuse you further, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value quartz diver than this one from Luminox (assuming you can find one)

Sea Diver 1580 series, 5-jewel Swiss Ronda movement, Trit tubes and SL lume, 200m WR and built like a tank

    Cheers

The PRS-17Q and PRS-17A share a dial. The date aperture on this dial fits the date on the Auto's ETA 2824-2 movement but just misses the date on the Ronda 715 in the Quartz. It means that in the 20s of the month the date is slightly obscured and you can see a little of the following day's date.

It is a small but, for me at least, not insignficant issue.

I was also trying to find a good reasonably priced quartz diver for some time. I think that the best option in the cathegory around £300 is the Certina DS First. It is well built, has sapphire crystal, good size (41mm), 200m waterproof. My watch is in this blue colour, but you can also buy it in black.

Nice watch. Trasers with a similar spec go for around the same price. E.g. P6506 Commander or P6504.
