I've always thought that I was fairly well versed in sports/ sport people, but I've never heard of Ross Brawn. Quite embarrassed now really, if he's a contender for our best sports personality of the whole of 2009. Off to investigate Google....

Needless to say that on that basis, he wouldn't be getting my vote.

He should get it for saving 400 jobs, even without the debut championship double...

Not sure how he can win it, not being a partipant in the sport...it doesn't look as though he is elligible for any current award though the team could win team of the year.

To have just won the constructor's cup with a team bearing your name and the first thing you do is acknowledge the people you had to lay off... Seems like a damn decent bloke.

Great businessman. Great team manager. But sports personality :? Absolutely not.

He started blubbering on National TV, so he's got to be in with a shout for any team prize ...............

Re: Ross Brawn - British Sports Personality of the Year?

Don't they have a Manager of the Year now? If so, I'm sure that they could bend the rules to let Ross (as a Team Principal) win it this year ;) . Maybe Brawn could also win the Team prize, Rubens the Overseas Personality and Jenson the main SPOTY :D ! After all, this is the first year that BBC have had F1 coverage for a while....

Mind you, after showing the rainsoaked qualifying session on primetime Saturday evening, the BBC F1 guys might want to keep a low profile for a while  !!

Brawn should be knighted for what hes achieved in the last 18 months ! :)

if Obama can get a peace prize for just doing his job, then surely Queenie can help make him Sir Ross ;)

I loved the interview where he lost it, just shows how much pressure he's been under.
Well done Brawn they all deserve a knighthood

    +1 for Sir Ross

+1 for JB as SPOTY - he's actually GOT a personality, unlike most of the other contenders (any year)

And did they not do well, the lads? :D

Re: Ross Brawn - British Sports Personality of the Year?

Past SPOTY winners include Nigel Mansell (twice), Steve Davis and Nick Faldo, so a personality most definitely isn't a requirement.

Ross Brawn would be elligible for the Coach of the Year award, and BrawnGP for Team of the year.

Team award for Brawn GP sounds fair.

Re: sports personality - bit of an oxymoron normally but not in Button's case.

A thoroughly deserved and worthy recipient 8)

I was impressed with, even in his moment of triumph, he remembered the employees he had to let go at the
start of the season - Nice guy!

No, obviously not. Consider it to be in the same category as darts and snooker as a sport to be honest. And horse racing.

Me too ;) , but you could feel the tension in the F1 guys voices that they had the prime spot on the schedules and only a rain soaked sporting event to show. A bit like most Wimbledon's really :D !

Re: Ross Brawn - British Sports Personality of the Year?

    +++++1 for Button.
Had many difficult years with BAR and then when it Morphed into Honda Racing should have done well but some how Honda couldnt put a decent car under him.
However during that time he always tried to keep it together and stuck with them,I daresay he had offers of other drives during this time but stayed true to his team.
Great payback for him and the team now.
First season and they get the Constructors,Drivers Championship and either a Second or Third place in the Drivers championship as well with Reubens(who has also done a stirling job this year)

    Well done all round.
