Thread: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

  1. #1

42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

Looking at the 42 mm Planet Ocean, I'm torn between the black bezel with orange numerals (2201.51.00) and the orange bezel with orange numerals (2209.50.00)

Any input from owners of either watch?

I'll be wearing this at work with long sleeved shirts, occasional tie and on weekends with casual outfits. Already have blue SMP non-coaxial and Speedmaster Professional full size as well as a Breitling Navitimer 1960's, so I already have 2 with black dial and white indices.

    Thanks,
    Kenneth

Given your other watch choices, I'd go with the Orange bezel for something a bit different.

I owned one (albeit for a very short period of time) and absolutely loved it!

You clearly want to be told orange bezel.

But we are not those who will wear that watch, you will.

On one hand you have enough watches to switch from one to another according to how you dress.
On the other if you want to know whether the orange numeral + bezel will go with anything you wear, the answer is . :D :D

    Nice watch anyway

Buy which ever is the cheapest then buy the bezel insert in the other colour then you will have both. :D

Black is classier, what about getting one of them then another bezel of a different colour?

IMO the orange bezel has more of a 'tool watch' look about it which rules out dress occasions. The black bezel with orange numerals is more flexible and has a little more going on than the white numerals but then I would say this as I chose black bezel/orange numerals so ultimately it's down to choice. Don't rule out the 45mm until you've tried it on!!

Black White Numbers for a clean classic look
Orange with orange number for a fun sporty look.

So are you classic or sporty! Or Both!

Even though I bought the black bezel 42mm PO myself, I really think it should have been the orange, if I had the choice again that's what I would go for.

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

So I had a black SMP shortly before I decided I wanted the PO and ended up with ...

I wanted the Orange to contrast the black I already had so a bigger difference was important to me ...

I've since changed the bracelet on the SMP to a leather strap ... (sorry I'm just posting gratuitous photos now ... )

I think I'd better consider the 45 mm version as well, although I do have small wrist, 6.25". Hopefully I'll have time to go see them tomorrow and will let you know :D

I would go with the orange, whilst it isn't very original I find it is a lot more subtle than the orange on a lot of other watches.

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

The orange bezel is a bit 2005. Or even 1993. Either way, it won't go with much. Also the orange inserts look really bad when they start getting scuffed up; I think the black will look better over the years. (Does any WI still buy for "the years"?) As for the orange vs white numerals, meh. (I don't see why they bother with the choice.)
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

    I've got the Black/Orange model:

I think it's the best of both worlds on this model. Has just enough orange to set it off, keep it from being boring.

Mine originally came with the orange bezel, which I have still in case I wanted to switch back. Haven't yet had that urge.

    Best,

    Chris

I was in the same frame too, I ended up going for a Glycine Combat Sub with orange bezel and the PO will be the classier IMHO black bezel with orange numerals. I don't think the years will be too kind to the orange on orange.

I know you want the red/orange hour markers but for me this is the best/only combination for the PO. 42mm White on Black on Rubber :)

42mm white numerals, black face, black bezel and bracelet for me (2201.50.00). A timeless classic and i reckon the Orange officianados with rue the day in 20 yrs time when they chose 'Zany' orange. IMHO this is the version which will rival the 2254.50 as the 'Classic' Omega of it's range (2254.50 SMP, 2201.50 PO). Orange for Jim Carrey, Black for Robert DiNero.

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

I have the chrono with orange bezel, and it will stay that way. I also have the 45,5mm chonometer with orange bezel which I am changing to a black bezel, allthough I am totally happy with the orange I donīt want two POīs with orange. Otherwise the orange bezel is very smart.

I personally like the orange best, but for work it is no go imo.
Black is the way to go

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

I puzzled over the same dilema as you.....after trying both colours I did not have the bottle to go with the orange so opted for black with white numerals and then went up a size to 45mm.........result is I am glad I did...its a classic and well receommned the larger 45mm. give it a try before you make final descion.

I much prefer the black bezel - the orange is just a bit too bling!
However, I do like the orange numbers on the face - gives the watch a nice bit of contrast
PO is one watch that I always lust after!

Avoid any orange full stop! The black is a classic, goes with anything and everything....!

Re: 42 mm Planet Ocean, black or orange bezel?

I bought my PO because I originally liked the look of the Orange bezel, but in the end went for the black bezel.

Why? - I reckon I would get bored with Orange after a while..... too gimmicky. Black brings a more classy look to the watch.
