That list is probably very long but Linde Werdelin is definitely on it.
hey all..
I stopped by Watches of Switzerland, on the corner of New Bond Street near the green park end in London, today :) Wearing my Anonimo crono miltare LE.... asked the guy if he had any anonimo's in stock? It took three assistants before someone recognised the name. They said 'so and so sells them up the road, really big watches eh".. although i saw one of the customers looking very interested as the assistant then proceeded to drool over mine ...
:D
..are there any other quality brands which are known to afficionados but not known to even watch retailers?
cheers
ug

Yep, loads. Call your local H. Samuel and say you are interested in :-
Urwerk
Greubel Forsey
De Bethune
MB&F
Hautlence
Giuliano Mazzuoli
Roland Iten
Cabestan
MCT
Ladoire Genève
Hy Moser
Most of these firms make watches that can be had for little more than the price of a small family car.

no kidding, I am sure you think you know everything about this brand.
Believe me, you will be amazed of what you will discover!
Precista, obviously.
Then there are some other forum favourites such as Sinn and Damasko which you won't find in many shop windows.

Can you find any sane adult in the English speaking world who doesn't recognise the Rolex brand?
Minerva,
Bedat,
Dornbluth,
Gerals Genta,
H.Moser,
Vulcain
and several from Germany like Meistersinger, Muele, Temption
Nomos
Hanhardt
Guinand
Will add another couple not already mentioned - Fortis and Steinhart
Another which I am currrently wearing - Orient (an off-shoot of Seiko I believe). I am sure some more will come to mind eventually, but not at this time of the morning

The Five black looks really nice!
If you like some slightly off the beaten track brands, go to Jura Watches right between Bond St and Saville Row on Burlington Gardens. They have Anonimo, Glycine, Fortis, Perrelet, etc etc. Not exactly rare watch companies, but not stuff you'll typically find in an Ernest Jones.
dornbluth and sohn 8) 8)
Another German brand - LIMES, and a French one - BRM.
Plus...
Ollech & Wajs
Aristo
Another two..
IWC would appear to be a brand that Ernest Jones staff have never heard of...
I had never heard of these before yesterday.

I really like this as well but at 48mm it's just too big.
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
Nice. But not only too big, what's the '55' all about? Whoever decided to include that deserves to have it tatooed on his/her forehead.
js watches from iceland
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

They only make 55 of each edition - actually 54 as they apparently miss out No 13. So there is method in their madness.Originally Posted by Geralt

A few to add.
Roger Dubuis

Rainer Brand - understated but distinctive and relatively affordable.
Ray Wong!
That's almost attractive except the sub dials are too close to the centreOriginally Posted by Carlton-Browne
thanks all..I'm actually going to spend some time researching all of these... think the unusual and rare watches are my thing..even more so if they sold at Seiko prices :)

the tourbillion is very cool and they let you design your own watch too, had one and stupidly sold it
Every single bit is machined by hand now thats a bit of engineering
Angular Momentum. You'll both find some pretty hideous and pretty nice watches there. IMHO more of the former.

Seem well received on this forum too, and scarce to boot, a particular attribute I like.

I think this list is pretty endless here's the index page just from the Federation Of The Swiss Watch Industry. 209 official websites, see how many names you can recognizes :D
http://www.fhs.ch/en/links.php
what... no mention of Panerai or Parmigiani!!
...and Franck Muller etc... many esoteric (read EXPENSIVE) brands available here http://www.marcuswatches.co.uk/brands/ (the Urwerk watches are amazingly cool)
I should add (in case no one already did) that there are several small German makers besides Damasko and Limes. Look up Sothis, Meistersinger, Stowa... And there is a new Ickler brand in addition to Archimede and Limes, but I can't remember what it is.
