    Getting better and better
I don't know if those movements are already up to scratch, but if so, I,m tempted to try one.

    Cheers,

A strange place to discuss watches with oppressive moderation.

That's a bloody [s:3s0qhe4u]fake[/s:3s0qhe4u] homage if you ask me! I bet the very same case/movement/dial/everything as the fakes from guangzhou!

That's not a [s:3km4sb5d]fake[/s:3km4sb5d] homage of the Ultra Thin, it's more a [s:3km4sb5d]fake[/s:3km4sb5d] homage of the Master Control in 40mm.

It seems to use a Sea-Gull ST21 - the Sea-Gull version of the ETA 2824.

The date together with the 3 looks so wrong too.
Not considering the price; I have had enough of Seagull products. Three movements failing is enough. No matter how cheap. While they are capable to produce to good standards, like the movements in the PRS-5 that have been checked over by a watchmaker, they apply some low quality standards and quality controll in their own budget watches. Waste of money. The Homage is not an issue, so many others out there.

    Re: Seagull again

What really makes my blood boil is the caseback actually. You can clearly see the origins of this one. It's purpose is solely to create the very same look as the JLC.

    Re: Seagull again

Seagull produces some high quality movements: the Venus chrono, the Unitas ones and lately some 2824s and 2892s. This high quality movements are almost as good as the swiss (look for Bob´s classic post). And they are not fakes.

If you ask me about that watch, the movement is not one of the high quality ones mentioned above. Rather, it looks like a cheap movement from a cheap faked watch. And I remind you that what is valuable in a JLC is the movement.......

They have a few tourbillon watches from $4000 upwards. Does anybody actually order these?

Actually I don't know

It's just that they obviously want to conquer the US and European market and I thought they'd have finally "grown up".
Seagull isn't small, so we're not talking about a niche producer. They should now try to get some interesting watches done.

I'm not sure who creates the cases for sea-gull. Are they doing them in-house? If yes, why an exact copy of the JLC back?

Did the fake industry ask for that? Do they have the same suppliers? Do they produce for the fake industry?

I'm not as think as you drunk I am.

Perhaps we should ask not why Sea Gull feel the need to clone other watches, but perhaps whether JLC source their cases from the same manufacturer? It's possible, isn't it?

I have one and it's really beautiful. Bit small for my 8.25 wrists though. That Seagull on topic is available for about £90 delivered. Very tempting especially with the JLC reference :D

    No.

The movement is an ST16, better decorated than usual, but still an ST16.

I know, some people really get their Y fronts in a right twist, it's only another Homage watch.
A great buy, for people that are terminally short of cash :)

What's the difference between this Seagull and the SBIII?

They are both homages... Neither is intending to be the IWC or JLC.

    What's all the fuss about?

I have a master control memovox with a very similar face to the watch this is clearly referencing but I'm not offended by this - it does say seagull on the front

Beats me. It doesn't say Jaeger LeCoultre on the front, or even Haider LeChiffre, or anything that could remotely be mistaken for JLC. Yes, I take the point that it's very similar, but if using a slimline case with dagger indices and quarter arabics in a 30s-style font and dauphine hands is illegal because Jaeger LeCoultre (Peace Be Upon Them?) uses them, then please feel free to vilify this one. Which I bought, and never once made the JLC connection because I just don't know (or care) enough about them:

...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

    Re: Seagull again

My Sea-Gull M222S is my favourite watch most of the time. It is beautifully finished and not an homage to any particular watch as far as I know. It blew me away the first time I strapped it on, and I still smile every time I take it out of the box. I urge any doubters to take a look at one before you make up your mind about Sea Gull. It's a peach!
