    What's your favourite mondegreen?

A mondegreen, in case you didn't know, is a misheard lyric (the origin of the word is too boring to relate).

One of the most famous is from Purple Haze; Hendrix sings 'Scuse me while I kiss the sky', but people thought, and continue to think, he was singing 'Scuse me while I kiss this guy'.

In Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke the chorus is 'You can feel it all over' which sounds a lot like 'Dick and Phyllis are lovers' on the record.

And for Nationwide fans (remember Frank Boff?) the chorus of The Police's 'So Lonely' sounds an awful lot like Sting is singing 'Sue Lawley'.

Gene Cotton had a minor seventies hit with 'Me and the elephants'; the opening line goes 'I remember the day we had nothing to do, so we went down to the city zoo, just to kill an hour or two....', but it sounds like he is singing '....just to kill an owl or two'.

And, I kid you not, I was once standing looking at a pub juke box, when the fella next to me said 'where's that Wings' song - you know, Mother Can't Iron'. For those not aware of Macca's 1977 masterpiece, it was entitled 'Mull of Kintyre'.

    So, what's your favourite mondegreen?

At the end of Queen's One Vision, the last line of the song is meant to be...One Vision...however when heard, the last line of the song is ...Fried Chicken...

I was told this years ago and still to this day, can't get 'One Vision' into these lyrics!

This is not strictly on topic, but what about the visual equivalent. I used to own a fleiger, with the usual triangle flanked by two dots at twelve. One day I looked at it and saw a duck....I had to sell it and still can't look at such a watch without seeing a bloody duck.

Isn't there a common one from Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater revival?

Something like "There's a bathroom onthe right"?

    I like Abba's song; "Chicken-Tikka".

What REALLY upsets my wife & Teenage daughter (both Abba fans) is my attempts to change the lyrics into a lament for the closure of Sweden's only Indian takeaway and the groups attempts to cook Chicken-Tikka at home.

My other is Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes singing; "No lift goes up where we belong" which is a really sad song about living in a high-rise council flat.

I had a great deal of difficulty at the time trying to fathom out the lyrics to "into the valley" by the Skids and in the past Maxell made an ad of just that ridiculous but great completely mondegreen track.....

How I wish this was true, Queen did have a few random lyrics, but I (sadly) remember checking the lyrics and still trying to work out how One Vision could become Fried Chicken...

    Re: What's your favourite mondegreen?

Wiki, should you chose to believe it, says that it is indeed "Fried Chicken":

    "Fried chicken"

The final line of the song (in both the studio and live versions) is "fried chicken", although the lyrics say "One vision". This was a result of a prank that Freddie Mercury did in the studio, as the band had fried chicken for tea. Jim Hutton, who knew Freddie Mercury, says in his book that wasn't sure he would include it in the final cut. Jim Hutton encouraged him saying "You are big enough" (to get away with it).

This is a song, to my ears at least, about a Native American tribe called 'Geraldine' -

    YMMV!

I’m sure that Don’t Go by Yazoo opens with ‘Came in from the city, walked into a door’

And Rihanna is definitely singing Hot Pie, we never sing anything else.
