I'm in the market for a new watch.

Having sold some watches last year to buy a 'classic' car I'm now thinking of putting that money back into watches, or a watch.

My preference would be to buy new at a discount, given the current climate, but I may also hit the sales corner.
    I'd also like something I've not owned before so the shortlist so far is;

    Rolex:
    Deepsea
    Milgauss GV
    GMIIc
(My ad has all of these in stock, sign of the times!)

    IWC:
Inge 322701 (the only one on the list so far that I've had in the past, is it now discontinued? It's still on the IWC website)
Vintage range Inge or Aquatimer (anyone know the rough rrp of these?)

    Omega:
New Ploprof (if I can find one)

    Any other suggestions?
I've not really been keeping up to speed with things but I was quite shocked to see that my October 2008 Rolex price list is now out of date by several £100.

Rolex are now mad money but I can honestly say that the GMTIIC is a real keeper if you want something smart and are happy to do about £4k. Some AD's are selling them as low as £3800-£3900.

Can't suggest anything else without knowing your requirements/taste, but you have a good list there already :)

Thanks, it was that post that reminded me of the Ploprof re-issue.

I'm biased, but I love the Milgauss GV. Very different to some of the other watches that you've mentioned, and I'm a little concerned that it's easy to mark as a daily wearer. But a very very nice watch none the less.

I'm wondering if you might be able to get discounts on these now???

Not sure about the ploprof re-issue: I would rather buy the original/vintage...

I was looking at an Ingenieur in SC. Beautiful watch in my opinion.....

gmt II-c ...i love it...i wanted the GV for almost a year, but i think it was mostly the hunt that made me want it... it's not that i don't like it anymore, but just not as much..the gmt though...i still look at it adoringly. hah.

I went for the GMT2c also, picked up one over at SC from a great member. I cant comment on the other brands than Rolex as they are by far my brand of choice... I had some different pieces over the times (signature) but keep selling them off.

The gmt2c is a versatile piece of kit that goes well with all kind off attire. One thing do i tend not to wear it when i have short sleeves as it does mark easy due to polished mid links... then again i have different watch for that occasion.

Here is a shoot of mine:

    Good luck with your choice.

Hi there, either the EXPII or the Sub... since both have brushed bracelets and tend not to show every mark...

100% with Peter, the GMT is the only watch that is ''safe'' from sale in my collection

depends whats already in the collection!

If you already have a sub or two then i wouldsuggest a millgaus or a JLC

Certainly the Rolex options are as diverse as you are likely to get! All really nice watches, but it depends which one you like the look of most. The Milgauss GV is probably the most 'love it or hate it' and the DSSD is huge, a monster compared to the GV MG. Maybe a good option would be the GMTIIc?

If you have big wrists then my suggestion would either be the DSSD or Ploprof.

    Deepsea for me Peter,

Never owned one but tried one on and was smitten, looks amazing on the wrist :) The Ploprof Reissue would also be on the radar, looks great in the pics and if it's as wearable as the original it'll be pretty versatile too.

The other Rollie's are cool too of course, had a few GMT11 ceramic's, my fave being the 2 tone model, the Inge is also a cracker but for some reason I never really bonded with eother the Ti (which I prefer) or steel versions...

Anyhow best of luck with the search, no doubt you'll have a lot of fun!!!

    Cheers,
    Sanj :)

Wow, looks very sharp with a CF strap! Works nicely with the bezel and dial.

If you like GMTs (I don`t), the GMT11 is the one to get. I like the polished centre links on the bracelet, I tried a Datejust with similar bracelet recently and was impressed.

As an alternative, you could spend a bit more and buy your 2 favorites second-hand. That makes more sense IMO as I never buy new.

I'm another one that'd go with the GMTIIc, all the rest of my watches would go before this one. Looks fab on that strap 8)

i would say either the deepsea or the gmt2c. i already have the deepsea and will probably add the gmt2c soon, although i will likely opt for the 2 tone version.

I've got both GMTIIc and Milgauss GV. Although the GMT feels more solid and is a wonderful watch, there is something about the GV which I really like. You need to see it in the flesh, I am swaying more toward the GV.
