I am waiting for the Sekonda Tourbillon , retail estimated at £4.99 from all good H Samual retailers :D
One day i'll understand the whole tourbillon thing, 100 years ago a tourbillon would have been great, but today with all the COSC and other processes every swiss mechanical watch is accurate to a few seconds, so why are tourbillons so damn expensive and made out to be the pinnacle of quality, if anything they're worse for this modern era due to their limited robustness compared to other watches.
I like them because they look cool. :)Originally Posted by Argee1977
I don't understand the whole tourbillon thing, when Omega shocked everybody by introducing their tourbillon in 1994, they claimed that the art of making a tourbillon had been lost for decades. Now it seems that every manufacturer is making one and it's possible to make one on your kitchen table with simple tools (Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration).
Is it possible that nobody bothered making tourbillons for years because they had become irrelevant? I agree that it's interesting from an engineering aspect but so were many of the Ronco and K-Tel gadgets nobody needed.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Yes - but Ronco and K-Tel filled up that awkward space under the kitchen sink, a lot more useful than a tourbillon.
And on that note, I have a bread maker , sandwich toaster , and waffle maker in one of my kitchen cupboards never to see the light of day ! :DOriginally Posted by Rinaldo1711
Popped into H.A.Rrods in town yesterday,
the chap on the AP/VC/Parmigiani/IWC secion claimed fewer and fewer buyers ask for Tourbillons - getting wise to the fact they really are.......???
He also claimed the 'large' versions would go small again 'in the near future' :?:
Superb selection, but now as Harrods has taken over the previous 'franchises' within their walls, no more 50% sales :(
I see on the fleabay add it does say make an offer- say £39.99, which is what it will be worth 1 minute after you buy it :)
if you get one for £39.99 i'll double your money! :bigsmurf:Originally Posted by sestrel

I'm sure it must be that now you come to mention it; but when I saw fuzzaway, my mind went in another direction entirely.Originally Posted by swanbourne

Like ironing your clothes while you wear them, it's not a good idea.
:(
So clever my foot fell off.
I think that everyone who wanted a tourby, has already got one ... and the fad is over. Most of them were being sold in Russia anyway, so now with the Russian market collapsing, I cannot see who else is going to buy them.Originally Posted by ingenioren
I know two people with turbies and I have only seen wear them a couple of times each.

John did you ever ask (thinking of the LARE premium they demand) WHAT made then go for Tourbies ?Originally Posted by abraxas
Surely not for precision timing, and only another WIS would know what it was...??

I don't know about those two as I don’t talk to people unless they speak to me first. My feeling is that they buy them because they are expensive ...Originally Posted by ingenioren
I get enquiries about tourbies ... and when I ask why a tourby, the general answers I get is ... because they like the idea, look, and exclusivity.
There is a huge difference between a person who knows about watches and a person with a bunch of watches in their collection. These days (according to the press) a watch lover (horophile?) is a person with more than five expensive watches.

What's the use of just one Tourbillon - girl's watches. Real men need at least 4.
4 Grand seems a bit much for a Russian watch! :?
