Some (strange?) watches for your perusal. Loads of watches.

I stumbled over these and thought I would share them with you.

Some I knew and some I did not

Some are strange and some are not.

Some I like and some I do not.

Watchblurb is from the site unless oterwise stated .

    TNT Royal Retro Watch
If you’ve ever wondered why certain watches are called complications, Pierre Deroche’s TNT Royal Retro makes it clear: it features a whopping six retrograde second hands.

It’s not as slick as Dick Tracy’s wristwatch, but Zypad’s WR1100 Rugged Wrist PC meets military specs with a fiberglass reinforced alloy case and water/dust-proof touch screen.

    Welder K24 Watch
    $780
Any company called Welder is clearly for guys; the K24 watch is a big, burly 2.5? watch with a thick IPB-treated stainless steel case, chunky chrono buttons and a utilitarian face.

    59,000 USD
The aptly named Three Minds Watch is a collaboration between three legendary watchmakers; it’s composed off three rotating discs (H, M, S) and limited to 33 pieces worldwide.

Although only a concept, Franc Vila’s SuperLigero Skeleton Tourbillon looks downright dangerous. The watch is made with Lightnium, a highly rigid alloy of aluminum and lithium.

    $57,000
From one highly-tuned precision instrument to the next, Dutch car maker Spyker has teamed up with watchmaker Chronoswiss to make the stylish, but insanely priced Pilot Watch.

Sure, it’s a little gimmicky, but that’s never stopped a true-blooded geek: Sector’s Compass Torch comes with a red flashlight for sending out Morse code, as well as a survival tool kit.

Roger Dubuis’ Easy Diver SED watch bares it all with a gorgeous open skeleton set in a 48mm titanium case; the hand-wound movement is tied to a 60-hour flying tourbillon at 7.

Retrowerk’s Steampunk Watches come straight out of a Jules Verne novel, with worn steel and brass cases and a telescopic lever system; some include compasses and glow in the dark.

What this Retrograde Skyscrapers watch gives up in efficiency it makes up for in sheer coolness: the dial alone is composed of 55 parts, with the hour and minutes on opposing halves.

    $150,000
Porsche Design’s race-inspired P6910 watch has been reworked with a rose gold and titanium case. Its coolest feature is a mechanical stopwatch which uses a three-disc system.

    Pilot Watch
    $12,000
Bremont’s Pilot’s Watch isn’t just another aviator-themed timepiece; the dial and movement are made with parts of a WWII Spitfire fighter that downed six aircraft in one day.
(WTF - did they run out of bits of moondust and pieces of the Titanic! WS)

Exchanging gold for titanium, Piaget’s Polo 45 Flyback Chronograph targets the luxury sport segment with triple secondary dials, 100m water resistance and a 50 hour power reserve.

Iskender Asanliev’s ON AIR watch is a genius blend of analog and digital; the red LED’s position shows the hour, but is itself made up of numbers which indicate the minutes.

    $22,000
Nubeo and Kobe Bryant team up for the Black Mamba watch, whose DLC-treated case is the most complex ever with 131 pieces; it also packs a Valjoux 7750 calibre and 36 part bezel.

Raymond Weil’s Nabucco Cuore Caldo is the first split-second watch with a power reserve indicator; other luxury touches include 18K pink gold, carbon fiber and sapphire crystal.

Based on a lean, mean naked bike of the same name, Jean Richard’s MV Agusta Brutale watch has a PVD black titanium case, sapphire crystal and JR1000 Caliber movement.

For 2009 Maurice Lacroix’s Masterpiece Lune Retrograde watch takes on modern sensibilities with a skeleton dial; large 46mm case houses a calendar and displays moon phases.

With a diamond-milled ceramic case and exclusive asymmetrically toothed gears, MB&F’s Horological Machine No. 2 is more work of art than timepiece; choose from one of four flavors.

It’s not sleek, but Kogan’s GPS Watch is feature-packed; it’ll track you through Google Earth, pair with your PC via Bluetooth, and measure steps, temperature, speed and altitude.

Hamilton’s Khaki BASE Jump watch was made for BASE jumpers; it sports an easy-grip bezel, protected crown, countdown or stopwatch versions, and black or bronze PVD finishes.

We’ll never own Hysek’s Abyss Tourbillon. Only thirty will ever be made, and chances are it’d cost a kidney or two. Unabashedly modern, this watch’s exposed moment shows it has nothing to hide.

Manchester United fans, your watch has come: Hublot’s Red Devil Bang sports a red and yellow colorway on a black ceramic case; the 45 min. timer equals a soccer match half.

    $300,000+
The HD3 Vulcania is a maritime themed watch with multiple “portholes” for hours and minutes; it even has a unique gyrotourbillon and a power indicator that resembles a sextant.

One of the hottest skeleton watches ever, Hautlence’s HLq watch features avante garding styling with a stainless steel case, manually wound caliber and crocodile strap.

Harry Winston’s Opus 9 takes complications to even ritzier heights with parallel chains that tell the time; they’re made with calibrated baguette-cut diamonds and a mandarin garnet.

The original Ventura was the world’s first battery-driven electrical watch, so it’s fitting that this upsized XXL edition gets an automatic movement while keeping its iconic triangular case.

With anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a titanium case and galvanic black guilloche dial, Favre-Leuba’s Bathy V2 is the creme de la creme of diving watches; it’s water resistant down to 300m.

Inspired by the first US airborne assault in North Africa in WWII, the EP Martin Sahara Sand features a 44mm machined case with leather or canvas strap, and optional face guard.

Perrelet’s Double Rotor Turbine Watch sports twelve titanium blades that rotate like a jet engine, which not only looks smokin’ but provides the automatic movement with energy.

    DeWitt WX-1

Limited to 182, Wyler Geneve’s Dakar Rally chronograph commemorates the upcoming 2009 rally; it features an exotic tantulum suspension that shields the movement from shocks.

Although designed for divers with 100m of water resistance, Vulcain’s Cricket Diver X-TREME watch looks more suited for the road with a tire-tread wrist strap and an odometer-like face.

Timepiece porn jumps to a whole new level with Concord’s C1 QuantumGravity; it’s fitted with an externally mounted aerial bi-axial Tourbillon which uses cables to hold the cage vertically.

    ConcordC1 Quantum Gravity waych
    (see below WS)

We’ve previously seen the gorgeous aerial bi-axial Tourbillon of Concord’s C1 QuantumGravity watch, but they’ve now revealed the case; it’s a 48.5 mm Titanium looker.

Maitres du Temps’ Chapter One watch gets a Black Dial edition (think gothic meets steampunk); it features a tourbillon and two rolling bars for day of the week and moon phases.

    $3,920+
BRM is well-known for its racer/industrial aesthetics, and their Perfed Watches are no different; both feature perforated hands and details, high contrast colors and sharp arabic numbers.
(Warning! Extreme mushroom pusher alert. WS)

Bell & Ross’ manual Minuteur watch features a horizontal design with a “minuteur” timer to the left and a flying tourbillon; it’s crafted with a titanium case and sapphire crystals.

Other than a single red pusher, Blancpain’s Super Trofeo is a classy, understated watch–the latter of which is remarkable since it’s a collab with the normally flashy Lamborghini.

Well-known for their Swiss Army Knives, Wenger’s Aerograph Cockpit Watch is likely just as multi-functional and dependable; it’s a pilot’s watch inspired by flight-deck instruments.

DeWitt’s Academia Seconde Retrograde Serenity is ideal for gearheads, with a distinct cog-shaped case and radiator grill patterns; it runs on a mechanical self-winding movement.

A departure from Bell & Ross’ utilitarian offerings, the BR 01 Airborne Watch glows in the dark, and features the US Airborne skull emblem encased in a glass bead blasted steel case.
    (WTF? WS)

With gold prices skyrocketing, Bell & Ross’ BR01-92 Gold Ingot watch could qualify as an investment; the case, numbers, indexes, dial and hands are all made from 18k rose gold.

    Need a winder? (WS)

    $95.7k+
With 13 layers of varnish and alcantara-lined drawers, Erwin Sattler’s Custodia is a watch geek’s wet dream; winding rates can be set via USB while 16 LED lamps illuminate your beauties.

THE phone for the watch-a-holic (WS)
Ulysse Nardin’s retro-futuristic Chairman is a working phone with a mechanical watch rotor that supplies extra power, a 2.8? multitouch screen, 5MP camera, Wi-Fi and browser.

A great selection, although looking through there are very few that make it easy to tell the time.

All of those watches are amazing, but the one I would really be happy with on my wrist is the Perrelet Double Rotor Turbine - simple gorgeous. This colour variant is the A1047/1 and goes on sale in October - just enough time for me to scrape a few grand together. ;)

Apparently the A1047/1 Double Rotor Turbine will retail at $4200 in the US, so I'd expect it to be £3000 to £3500 here in the UK.

This does confirm there are a lot of people who have a surplus of money and an absence of taste

It’s not sleek, but Kogan’s GPS Watch is feature-packed; it’ll track you through Google Earth, pair with your PC via Bluetooth, and measure steps, temperature, speed and altitude, and make you look like a complete idiot at the skunk party.

    .
Thanks WatchScout. Great post. I am now watched-out. :D

I was looking at this very Maurice Lacroix the other day and was wondering how can something with such a gorgeous back have such an ugly front. :(

Absolutely … and the most relevant part:

It is often quite common for a totally unknown brand to present its first watch at a six-figure price tag (and without a strong guarantee that it ‘runs’ correctly, that it is reliable, and that it has convenient after-sales service).
It is an open secret that most ‘specials’ don’t run properly. Most of the watches on the list above will be relegated to the credit crunch scrapheap.

Very nice and thanks for posting.

Some great stuff there, I had forgotten about some of them and others I can't get enough of.
    And some...

Re: Some (strange?) watches for your perusal. Loads of watches.

Thanks John. It is like a Roundup on crack! .....and without the valuable bonus info that you always supply.

I agree with you on the Maurice Lacroix. I think that we are on the same page concerning whether or not a watch should show any or all of its innards from the front.

Bob and the rest (well, most of you): Thanks for the kind words. I also agree with the ones that like the Perrelet. I am really starting to like that watch.

Talk about one of my pet peeves; the unprotected crown. That is certainly not the case here. Most be the watch crown, that has the most protection in the industry (now someone is going to post a pic of a crown that is even deeper recessed...., or a Pita without any crown at all! ).

Dial ofcourse is great looking. I might have a strap issue though.

Some good designs there. I think i love the Favre Leuba but it might just be trapped wind.

However "tacky" doesn't begin to describe this one. Everything I feared about the Bremont band brought to life in one watch.

This is the only one of those watches that I've seen, held and worn on more than one occasion and I can steadfastly confirm that it's not, at all, tacky. But there we are. It's a thing of beauty, IMHO...

Always thought it was odd when watch manufacturers boast about the large number of pieces in their mechanisms or (even worse) cases. I would have thought that the FEWER pieces, the better. Less to go wrong, greater care needed in design, fewer parts that need manufacturing, fitting, assembly, etc.
