Ok, as promised, here you go Micky and anybody else who is interested (probably just me & Micky :( )

Looks like the effort was all worthwhile Mark....it looks stunning.....

Used to have scooters in my yoof...and almost thought about getting another last year...till i saw the prices....if only i hadn't got the scrap man to empty my lock-up years ago for £50...reckon there would have been ££ thousands in there.

I will try and dig out some pics to scan....got some of my Stage 4 175cc Chopper, my Stage 4 175cc Cutdown, with rearsets, beedspeed drops, and MiKeck up and over.

Best one though was my 68 SX 200...TS1 kit, electroinc igntion...biturbo shock....36mm Amal...all sprayed up in original colours....used to give the XR2 boys a shock off the lights..especially when i put the Li 150 Pacemaker gears in it....couldn't keep the front wheel down in 1st and second....it subsequently destroyed the clutch basket etc..so i had to take it back out....

My mate had a an modded GP 200 frame with a GPX 600 engine in....now that was scary...attemped to take it down to Margate one year...never made it far......seems it couldn't do corners

that's a beauty mark and i'm sure it looks even better in the flesh.looks like money well spent to me,doing the scooter yourself to your own taste certainly adds to the grin factor.come on keith where's your pics, sounds like some rare beasts you had there.
    cheers,mick

Re: any scooter boys on here?

I've been into Scoots for years, never liked the Mod side of things though.....

I've had Lammies ranging from LD's to SX200's to cutdowns and more Vespas than I can shake a stick at. Down to one now, a 1978 P200e totally standard. It's never out of the garage, but I haven't been totally scooter free since the 80's.

    This is it here -

I used to prefer them a bit different, chopped down etc, but my ar*e can't handle the vibration on the skinny seats any more!

Here's a couple of my last vespas to be sold........

Just got myself a new Vespa so thought I'd resurrect this old thread...

Any other Vespa or Lambretta lovers on here?

    This new one is a 1989 T5.

124cc's of thrashed 2 stroke joy.

That looks great, I sold my T5 and it’s the one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. I keep looking for another but then I remember why I sold it, if I’d kept it I’m fairly certain I would’ve killed myself, those little wheels aren’t built for speed . Enjoy, it looks a good ‘un

The 10" wheels make it fun.
If it had 12-14" wheels it just wouldn't be the same....

I know, I keep looking at the Scomadis but the wheels just don't look right. Plus they're auto

The new Royal Alloy TG series is the closest I’ve seen to a modern Lambretta, wouldn’t swap my 67 LiSpecial though.

I was a scooter boy - for two weeks 48 years ago. I bought a Lambretta 150 off a mate but traded it in against a 'bike a fortnight later. I stopped riding bikes 18 months ago...but this Royal Alloy TG might temp me back to being a scooter boy again after a rather long gap. Love it!

It’s definitely got the styling of the series 2 right and with a 288cc in it will shift well

I'd quit two wheeled transport - or so I thought. This is not helping :)

I like the Rallymaster paint scheme, this is the best looking Lambretta shaped scooter produced since the GP

Hey Adam, that is one sharp scoot! I don't know about removing the mirrors. I'd sure like to see it when your mods are complete.

I've had a couple big cycles, but never a scooter. These days I'm getting interested in the electric Zugo bike, which goes up to 30 mph and a 50-90 mile range.

Mirrors are off, but might be a couple of weeks before the exhaust arrives.
    I thought the decal suited...

Very timely thread (no pun intended).

I’m looking at getting a scooter within the next few months and am torn between a classic TV175 / 200 or one of the new Royal Alloy GP200 / 300 models.

I really only want it for pottering into town on, rides out on a nice afternoon and the odd trip to Caffeine & Machine.

Whilst my heart says “classic Lammy” I’m thinking: overpriced, waiting all year for a good model, engine troubles and too much general fettling.

On the flip side the head says “modern classic Royal Alloy” but here I’m thinking: money loss after driving out of dealership, 4-stroke exhaust note, Chinese built clone and regret for not buying a classic.

These RA models do look the business and with a black/silver VRN plate could probably carry off the classic look very well to the untrained eye. Although I’m guessing the general consensus to the enthusiast is moot.

I’m in the same boat Gav, I’ve wanted a classic scooter for years and am torn between getting what my heart wants or a modern RA. Mine will be for daily use, commute to work and nice weekend drives when the weather permits.

I sold a classic Vespa to help fund this.
It's a TG300 and the ability to keep up with all traffic on the road is fantastic.
I take your point about the exhaust note and I have an improvement ordered but it still won't be the same.

I've a lot of mates with old Lambrettas and no matter how well maintained, they still break down.

The twist and go is taking a bit of getting used to as is the lack of foot brake but I can't see me going back....

    Cheers,

    Adam.

I think for a daily a modern is defo the way to go especially with the UK weather.

I’m looking at the GP200 as I literally just want something to pop around the town / villages with.

Problem is getting to physically see one and the nearest dealer is a 3-hour round trip but that’s not the end of the world.

Apart from the FB Community there doesn’t seam to be a huge many reviews on them.

Other option for you could be a V200.

Fully agree with you regarding modern, in particular there’s a RA 125 from the 2020 range that looks very nice and seems a decent price. The problem would be if i bought that i’d never stop wanting a vintage Vespa/Lambretta and would always think i’d bought wrongly.
I’ve zero mechanical knowledge or even aptitude either so vintage would be a potentially very steep learning curve and/or very expensive!

That’s good to know - have always wondered what proper classic-scooter owners feel about these modern-classics.

Yeah the twisty-grip and foot-brake must be weird but sure it’s easily enough to get used to. I’ve only ridden a motorbike (no scooters) so sure it will be OK.

Did you go for the Scorpion or Tasso exhaust?

Can I ask where you got yours from please? Did you get any £££ off at all please or any freebies?

Potteries is probably closest to me.

Imported from Italy a few years ago. Took a bit of time to get all the import and age authenticity agreed before I could re-reg and get a black G plate on it.

50n Smallframe first registered in Pisa in September 1969 and still on all original Verde Mela paint. Only changes are DR kit, SIPP exhaust, carb and electronic ignition.

My last one was 1982 and I think I sold it for 60 quid, they are worth a bit more now

I've got a Tasso road exhaust on order.

I bought it from Manchester Scooter Centre (Robinson's of Rochdale) as they have a good relationship with Bedlam Customs who did the paint job.
Great service from them and would deal with them again in the future.

If you're going for standard paint, then it's probably best to go with your most local dealer as they will look after you better for servicing and warranty.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

If you have no experience of how to maintain a classic, do you have someone locally who can?

I can do it for old Vespas but time is an issue for me these days so the RA is a no brainer especially with 300cc's

Although if I was limited to a 125 through licensing, I'd go for another Vespa T5 or T5 Classic.

Ooh - is that your red / black one on their FB page...looks beautiful.

I’m after a custom paint job for the panels / fender / horn cowl but was going to go down the wrap route (like the YouTuber Royal Alloy Guy has on his White / Yellow 125) but haven’t a clue what a custom paint job would cost.

The Carnaby Cooper Series pack is an amazing colour scheme but I don’t want all the bling that goes with it.

That is so nice I looked at small framed a while back , but my budget didn’t extend that far. So I bought a 2019 Honda Monkey 100% reliable, but didn’t scratch the small frame itch. They are such elegant bikes , I love them.

Hi Adam, luckily i have a bloke named Mike Phoenix pretty much round the corner from me who seems to be well regarded and i’ve seen some of his work which to my untrained eye looks superb. Also an old friend works a bit from a place in Rochdale that specialises in classic scooters so i’m considering asking him for advice on possible buys.

I’m limited to a 125 and will probably take a test within the 2 years. I’ve ridden before but it was many, many years ago so will be having lessons or something to get ready.

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.

Am sacking off the GP idea and getting one of these now. This mirrorless image has sold it to me.

For some reason I’ve not been looking at them (wasn’t really after a 300) but have noticed how clean-looking they are. The LED indicators in the leg shield look so out of place on the GP and GT.

Loving the look of the Cream / Pewter Grey model I just need to see one in the flesh. Hopefully I can get to Midland Scooter Centre on wc 12th.

Good to hear and hope you get your hands on a Smallframe one day.

The following in Europe is huge and the tuning potential is incredible, they can be very quick little scooters.

I haven’t been on mine for a couple of years now, it sits in the garage looking cool and shiny.

I “popped into” Black Country Scooters yesterday...guess what I’ve got being delivered on Wednesday morning :)

Sat on the bike and got them to replace the TG seat for an OxBlood King/Queen + matching grips. Also having white-wall tyres fitted.

The mirrors look utterly useless on them and I could barely see over my shoulder - how are you finding riding with them removed please?

Have looked at the Halcyon Stadium leg-shield mirrors but wonder if they will cause me to look down too much, reflect too much sunlight and vibrate with the scooter.

Would they look daft with bar-end mirrors on them?

The mirrors look utterly useless on them and I could barely see over my shoulder - how are you finding riding with them removed please?

I use a Halcyon on my Series 3 Lambretta leg shield, they work well

I get on fine just looking over the shoulder.
I've used leggie mirrors in the past and they were ok.
Bar ends work better in my opinion and I may go with one on the right if I end up with a crick in my neck....

    Cheers,

    Adam.

Key thing with bar end mirrors ( without stating the obvious) is watch out for interference with the throttle tube. Dont ask me how I know!! I spent hours getting the spacers just right on my BSA, to ensure I didn’t end up with “ cruise control”

As LammyLee says above Halcyon mirrors are quality.

I take your point about the exhaust note and I have an improvement ordered but it still won't be the same.

I've a lot of mates with old Lambrettas and no matter how well maintained, they still break down.

The twist and go is taking a bit of getting used to as is the lack of foot brake but I can't see me going back....

I attended the “ Italian Festival “ in Bristol about 10 years ago . Apart from Ferrari’s and Lambos putting huge black tyre lines on the road there were a veritable feast of Italian bikes. But the best bit was a group of 50/60/70 lads on Lambrettas. There must have been 30 plus of them. I got chatting to a couple and they said they loved their bikes, but getting 30 plus bike running simultaneously was a challenge. I stayed with them for about an hour. At no point could they get all bikes running. There was a guy with the classic WHO image of about 20 spotlights, with a small plaque stating “ Yes they all F....g work”

It was a brilliant day if they repeat it , go its free and the best way to see Italian machinery at its best.

The Halcyon mirrors clip-on leg-shield look great especially the rectangular ones. Would you recommend throttle-side only or to get a pair please?

Going to be a busy Monday for me as need helmet and gloves too.

When I had the leggie mirror on, it was right hand side only.

Those side panels on the Royal Alloy TG remind me of my old Lambretta LD I owned all those years ago
