I'd have thought you certainly should be able to get an Omega for that kind of price range.
Any suggestions gratefully received. (When I know which I really want I'll post on WTB but thought should post for discussion first.)
It would be a present for someone who turns 30 this year.
Criteria: automatic; around £500 perhaps (maybe more if necessary); probably not a dress watch; probably a sports model; thinking Speedmaster or other Omega; 34mm to 39mm. Doesn't necessarily have to be iconic of the late 70s as such, just a nice watch that happens to be made in 1979.
I know that's vague, but looking for inspiration.
Cheers

Hi all. Yet another newbie here.
An Omega f300 hummer would be nicely '70s, and should come in well under budget if you can track down a good 'un.
My own day/date Geneve bought in 1978 still hums away merrily and keeps excellent time, but is not for sale. If I found another good one, I'd buy it.

Damn! You've just reminded me I turn 30 this year too!
Will definitely have to cheer myself up with a vintage 1979 piece too.

Thanks Ken.
Come on the rest of you 29 yr olds - let's have your ideas!
How about an ABBA Album and a Never Mind the $%^&** sex pistols Tee Shirt.
Failing that I got a Omega Cosmic 2000 Seamaster for my 18th Birthday - which was in 1978 - god how old do I feel now!!

Just a sidenote - if it's an Omega you're looking at i believe 42 and 43 million are the movement serials for 1979 :)
I'll be 30 this year also. Was thinking of a JLC Memovox from 79, but I would also consider some of the vintage Zeniths and GPs I've seen. UG Polerouters are small, but very cool also.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Like the look of the Omega f300 on other threads but those appear to tend to be from earlier in the 70s ...

PS I should be getting worried about how old I am. (I turned 53 on the 12th.) But, for the life of me (as it were), I just can't manage it. Whenever I try to get upset about being in my 50s, I just become astonished and amused that I made it this far at all.

Any other suggestions guys? I'm pretty smitten by the hummers on another thread but they seem to be early 70s in the main. I'll maybe start searching omega forums. In the meantime, anyone with suggestions or examples please post!
Cheers
From early 70's but you might be able to get something similar and classy 8)
