    Car door.

Interesting door system, with some advantages, though on a very windy 'horizontal' rainy day, perhaps not so much.

In a "horizontal" rain, does it matter? Unless you happen to be nose into the wind, rain is getting in the car.

    Re: Car door.

SOme windy conditions and rain / precipitation looking at the video and the speeds invovled, and moreover, the gap that is effected by the operation of the door would lead to significantly larger quantities of precipitation entering the main areas of the care where those inside would be seated. Opening a door just enough in terrible weather is a useful attribute to the design of the car door ;)

In the UK, that's certainly a plus design-wise!

I always the liked the reverse-opening doors from, for example, the 40's. They could be used for extra breaking :P

    Best wishes,

    Re: Car door.

There was a large discussion about these doors on one of the auto forums I frequent. Seems there is structural issues also if you are in an accident and the rescue squad needs to get you out they won't know how to get the doors open.

and what if you're not on a clean and flat tarmac surface, but for instance you have stop bide the side of the road in the grass and dirt ( or with two wheels on the hard shoulder).... where do they leave the doors then? Currently they seem to be under the car....

and it's not that far off from the door design of the BMW Z1........ ( Where the doors disappeared in the sills.... and you could drive with the doors open on a sunny day.... :) )

Door design from the future, car design from the past.

Thought I was watching Dallas from the 80's with those cars.

Over-engineered IMO, and my wife's Peugeot 1007 does something similar :D

I have tried using the doors as air-brakes, doesn't work as well as you would think.

It was a tongue in cheek point. I still like the look of them though, naturally they would not be very effective, but it might turn up in some films

LOL it's a fab wee thing - CD, aircon, paddle/auto gears, electric everything. Got it a year old pre-registered by Peugeot, only 24 miles on the clock - £13,000 list, paid £6,500 - utter bargain !! :D

    Re: Car door.

I'm quite amused that comment was taken seriously
Of course not, but in the films that's what they seem to use it for ;)
(When screeching to a halt and swerving opening the doors) ;)

    Best wishes,

Imagine being halfway in and the door started closing rapidly !
You would end up with your conkers round your ears!
