    Tag F1 battery change

    A little help please.

My son wears one of the old 1980s Tag F1 watches and it needs a battery change. We live local to a Timpsons so took it in there.

What a shock. Apparently they are Tag agents and would need to send it to them; would be away for weeks and cost £95!

I am sure there are people who can do this near here. Does anyone have any suggestions for the Potters Bar, Barnet, St Albans area? I did use someone in the Arcade opposite Liverpool St stn when at the office but the Arcade has shut now.

    cheers,
    Steve

So easy to do yourself tbh, I changed about 5 in my wife’s old Tag F1 - you just need an opener, the right battery and a dab of silicone grease on the o ring, plenty of tutorials on you tube

Post it to me and I’ll do it for you?

    Did mine myself. Really simple.

That sounds quite complicated. Plus the added complication of an argument with the wife, after I shout, swear and then blame the tools.

I did change the battery on a CWC with a battery hatch. That was about as complex for me as I’d like.

OP - good luck! I’d rather have a go than send to Timpsons!

Why not get your wife to get it changed then?

Timpsons are NOT agents for TAG, I've just phoned my mate who runs one. They have an account with LVMH, same as most shops do, but they do 90% of repairs in-house.
95 green queens for a battery change is absolutely insane, the watch is worth about that!

If you were local I'd offer to do it for free, it takes five minutes and the battery costs a quid at most. Are there no half decent looking independent jewellers about? You really shouldn't be paying more than a tenner.

Agreed. I go to a local independent jewellers in town and they charge me £3 which includes the battery and fitting for my Tags. This place was recommended to me by a former work colleague who takes his battery powered JLC's for a change of battery there.

Thanks for the advice and kind offers of help. We used to have a local jeweller but they closed and it is now a vape shop. Was where I used to go for both my son’s old Tags.

All the advice has encouraged me to get my big boys pants pulled up and to do it myself. Batteries on order to be replaced tomorrow.

    Cheers

Tag wont just replace a battery, it's a part service type thing hence the inflated price.

Might have been too far away but Watchdoctors in Tring replaced a battery in a gold Omega for us. So presume they would do Tag.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
